SuperJerk Posted October 23, 2008 Report Posted October 23, 2008 my biggest problem with Nemesis, despite the plot holes, was the total absurdity of Shinzon's ship. A 'perfect' cloak, two sets of shields, 5 billion disruptor banks.... I mean, come one. Sure, it made the space battles something to behold (and I LOVED the effects work- and a lot of times i can forgive a bad story if it has good effects), but that ship was just to unbeleiveable, even for Star Trek. No moment in Star Trek history sucked as bad a Picard taking orders from Janeway.
Turbo Lion Posted October 28, 2008 Report Posted October 28, 2008 Why is money a determining factor in the success of MI:3? Since when is that a factor in the quality of a movie? It was loads better than II and maybe better than I, but I flip flop on that. It was solid, fun and coherent. So was Cloverfield. Neither of which, by the way, did Abrams write. He didn't direct Cloverfield, he produced it. There's quite a bit of positive stuff coming from Star Trek, from Nimoy endorsing Quinto to Kevin Smith saying it was working. Everyone involved is excited. I don't think it'll be some bomb. I think it'll be pretty good.

Anakin Flair Posted November 13, 2008 Report Posted November 13, 2008 Ladies and Gentlemen- the Enterprise:
ChrisMWaters Posted November 14, 2008 Report Posted November 14, 2008 Wonder if they'll do a "Wander around the ship in a shuttlecraft" scene ala the first Star Trek movie.
Anakin Flair Posted November 14, 2008 Report Posted November 14, 2008 Probably. Abrams has said that was his favorite scene in the first Star Trek movie.
Anakin Flair Posted November 15, 2008 Report Posted November 15, 2008 Just saw the preview for this movie at Quantum, and god damn does this look good. Though I'm confused how they can build the ship ON Earth and get it into space.
bobobrazil1984 Posted November 15, 2008 Report Posted November 15, 2008 shaky cam version of the trailer. Official version going online on Monday. Apparently is attached to 'Quantam of Solace' I like it. Other than the Apple-ish looking interior ship corridors, that is. Everything else looks pretty cool, I particularly like Quinto as Spock.
Anakin Flair Posted November 17, 2008 Report Posted November 17, 2008 The new trailer: http://www.apple.com/trailers/paramount/st...e_trailer2.html
SuperJerk Posted November 18, 2008 Report Posted November 18, 2008 Oddly enough, now *I* am the one who is worried.
Anakin Flair Posted November 18, 2008 Report Posted November 18, 2008 Why, if I may ask. Aside from that opening chase scene witht he kid, it looks like it'll be one hell of a movie. I just hope that Kirk isn't captain right away.
bobobrazil1984 Posted November 19, 2008 Report Posted November 19, 2008 I agree. the stuff with the kid kirk and the car just seems stupid. The rest of it seems pretty outstanding. I love Sylar as Spock. Too many people think of Spock as this emotionless robot but ppl got to remember he's half human and is always struggling to hold back his human emotions. Looks great.
SuperJerk Posted November 19, 2008 Report Posted November 19, 2008 Why, if I may ask. Because Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock aren't Maverick and Iceman in Top Gun.
Boon Posted April 1, 2009 Report Posted April 1, 2009 More than a month before Paramount’s new “Star Trek” movie goes to theaters, boldly or otherwise, the studio has signed up the creative team behind it to prepare a sequel, Variety reported. The “Star Trek” film, directed by J. J. Abrams (“Lost,” “Alias”) and scheduled to open on May 8, depicts the earliest adventures of Kirk, Spock and McCoy as young recruits of the Starfleet Academy. That film was written by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci (both of “Fringe” and “Transformers”), and produced by Mr. Abrams and Damon Lindelof, a creator and executive producer of “Lost.” Mr. Kurtzman, Mr. Orci and Mr. Lindelof will be writing and producing the planned sequel. Mr. Abrams and his producing partner, Bryan Burk, will also produce, but no director has been announced. The sequel, the 12th entry in the “Star Trek” franchise, is planned for a summer 2011 release.
Beto Chavez Posted April 1, 2009 Report Posted April 1, 2009 It looks like the rumors were true. Shatner's not in it.
Conspiracy_Victim Posted April 8, 2009 Report Posted April 8, 2009 Well, they snuck in a screening in Austin by pulling a bait and switch with Wrath of Khan. Knowles is practically wetting himself over it. Sounds like Pine manages to pull off a slightly less "I'm awesome" Kirk, and Quinto balances the human and Vulcan sides of Spock without tipping too far either way. Both reviewers for AICN make special mention of Karl Urban as Bones though. Sounds like we can now get excited to see it.

Beto Chavez Posted May 8, 2009 Report Posted May 8, 2009 I love how so called "Trekkies" are bashing this film already before its even out. Remember when "Bond fans" bashed Casino Royale before it was released because it was different from what they grew up watching THEN came to love it afterwards? Yeah, the same will happen with Star Trek. I have a good feeling about this movie. I'm really hoping it'll be the best Trek film since First Contact.
Anakin Flair Posted May 8, 2009 Report Posted May 8, 2009 Saw this last night, and it kicked all kinds of ass. IF the Trekkies don't love it, then they aren't Trekkies.
Frosty Posted May 10, 2009 Report Posted May 10, 2009 I saw this this afternoon and I was never a fan of Star Trek, and I liked it. It was well written (with a decent amount of cheese tossed in as well), the effects were awesome, it had decent action, and the way the story pieced together with each cast member joining the crew was solid.
cabbageboy Posted May 10, 2009 Report Posted May 10, 2009 I'll see this today at either the 1:00 or 1:30 showing. But here's a question that needs to be asked: Does it really matter if the Trekkies love this movie? With Nemesis we found out exactly how many total die hards the series has (43 million dollars domestic, 24 million overseas). So it's not like they should be catered to at the expense of a mainstream audience. I actually rented the various Next Generation movies yesterday and watched Generations and Nemesis. Oddly enough I thought Nemesis was easily the stronger of the two. It's hardly some Batman and Robin type movie that should wreck a franchise for years.
