oAo Monday Night Raw Thread -- 8/6/2007

Recommended Posts

For anyone who thought this show was great did you miss the Cena segment which was probably his worst of the past 2 years? The thing as brutally long, shitty and painful.....not to mention as he held Carlito in position for his finisher for about 10 minutes.

if they had put the dating game into the Cena thing and did something different for Cena that was even half as shitty as that I'd score the show quite a bit higher.

scherer over at pwi thought the cena segment was good, i mean good grief.

The Dating game thing was a highlight that speaks to the overall show in my view....that doesn't bother me if you want to do a segment or 2 like that for light hearted humor.

The Cena thing was brutal.....the show had few matches and most of the ones they picked were shitty. Like squashes with Snitsky. Also all I have to say is when Carlito is working in your mainevent scene that just sucks.

And Perfection a lot of people started watching the shows during the Monday Night Wars/Attitude era for as good as business as the WWE did in that period there were a lot of Raw's like this.....so there are people that like this sorta thing.

The thing is last nights show was no where near as good as any of the shows during that time period...not even close imo.

I bet I could find several Russo booked Raw's in 98 that were about the same as far as booking goes.......of course he had guys like Rock and Austin to pull things off where this team has.......John Cena.

I hope Orton ends Cena's career. Well, at least this current character he has. Cena needs something new. This wannabe Rock with terrible, terrible gay jokes... Just isn't flying for me.

Anyone who honestly watches WWE purely for wrestling deserves the disappointment they get every Monday for being so naive.

Me? I thought the show was great this week, in a train-wreck kinda way.

Yeah; it isn't like they have "wrestling" in the company name, a wrestling ring in the middle of the arena, and have a roster comprised mostly of wrestlers. Of course I should expect everything but wrestling when I watch World Wrestling Entertainment.

I'm sorry... are you new to the wrestling scene, or have you just blanked out the best part of a decade of Raw broadcasts. I agree with everything you're saying. I also realise that pure, god's honest professional wrestling isn't the WWE's top priority. I don't know as you should "expect everything but wrestling when I watch WWE", but you should at least realise from their track record you're in the wrong place for a wrestling showpiece on Monday nights.

What do you watch it for then? Entertainment? You must be easily amused. There's nothing entertaining about this crap. If I wanted to watch a third-rate, horribly written and acted sitcom I'd watch "According to Jim" re-runs instead of RAW

Honestly? Mostly habit. But I get my fix of wrestling from actual wrestling companies, so I just basically watch RAW for what it is, braindead entertainment. It's entertaining to watch it from a 'boy, what the hell are they doing here' or 'okay, that was kinda dumb' POV and make the most of the genuinely entertaining moments when they happen. The only thing I've been really interested in in the past few months was the Vince limo angle, because it was so OTT that it was entertaining. The illegitamite McMahon child might be in the same vain. Doesn't make for great pro wrasslin' but, again, I'm smart enough to realise there's better places to find it that Raw.

Boy. That sounds like such a 'smarky' thing to say, I know. But there ya go.

Even I will fully admit that a good majority of the WWE base doesn't care about matches....

I understand that actual wrestling doesn't mean much to WWE, and I just enjoy it for what it is.

Having matches doesn't mean anything. The casual viewer will turn off, and that's a guarantee. 80% of the audience doesn't care if the match was a Meltzer ***** classic or not, they just want to be entertained. Matches only mean something when they have a story behind them, and that's what PPVs are for. Raw (along with SmackDown and ECW) should be used to build on storylines, which is what WWE is trying to achieve. This is how the WWF survived in the late '90's ... how many actual wrestling classics did we see during the Attitude era?

The dating game thing had me rolling my eyes when it started, but then had me rolling on the floor immediately.

Santino Marella had me cracking up as he gleefully introduced himself by saying "I am in lots of pain." That was just so far out of left field, it was hilarious.

The fuckhead earlier who didn't like Maria can sit on a knife. Her dialogue with Marella was hilarious.

Marella: "These men were talking about how they hated puppies and babies."

Maria (distressed): "BUT I LOVE PUPPIES AND BABIES"

That shit almost had me crying.

And like I said earlier, as great of a wrestler he is, it's amazing how awesome Regal is in these types of segments. Usually the best technical wrestlers have zero personalities. For as good as Regal is in the ring, he's just as good, if not better, when he's doing a role on-screen. That's saying a lot.

I generally hate these types of segments, but one was one in a million.

According to Alvarez, the plan before the Benoit thing went down was for Kennedy to be revealed as Vince's illegitimate son, and there would be a 'long' storyline with many turns that would end up 'outing' Triple H as Vince's son-in-law and setting up a feud between Kennedy and Hunter.

Maybe but I don't know. The top crew were definately better which is maybe why i don't recall right off hand any show that was as bad as last night. Last night to me was just beyond awful and I'm really not that hard to please. I don't expect to see a lot of great wrestling...or even good wrestling but if you are going to not do that, at least make the non wrestling segments worthwile. I'll give everyone the dating thing segment but other than that, everything else was pure shit. To even come close to calling the show good is nuts imho.

Maria needs to be slapped. She ruined the dating game for me with her stupid facial expressions and horrible over-acting. You can play a dumb broad without making yourself unwatchable, bitch.

Wow.

Oh great here come the posts about how all wrestling are misogynist creeps.

Not all, just way too many.

What he said was over the top sure, probably just for board measures where it seems everyone is generally over the top saying people they don't like need to get slapped or run over by a bus or something like that.

At the same time you can dislike a female character without being a misogynist.....or dislike that female in general and not be one. I've seen far to much of the misogynist accusation being thrown around all over the place lately when someone just says they dislike a female on the show.

I saw some people saying they didn't like Steph and that argument being brought out. I personally don't like Steph it has nothing to do with misogyny or hating women or anything like that. It has to do with the fact that I find her annoying, not entertaining and someone I don't want to see. If she was a guy I'd feel the exact same way...

I think the misogynist shit gets thrown around way to much.

I posed the question a bit ago; if Orton does win, who runs in to save Cena from the PUNT?

It's probably best if Cena takes time off anyway. IIRC the only show he's missed in quite a while was the one where he was on Larry King.

Triple H will come make the save setting up Orton vs. Triple H.

And the big rating was a 3.8 according to Meltzer.

The Torch adds in that the first hour did a 3.67 and the second hour did a 3.94, so it looks like overall interest did build for the entire show.

sigh...that means more of what we got monday. Even less wrestling, more bad skits, more mcmahonmania and more awful cena segments. wonderful...just wonderful.

Man I thought you guys would be all over Orton's "WWF" slip. All we have is one mention of it by HTQ!

The best part was that McMahon was sitting like three feet away. I wish it was a wide angle shot so we could have seen Vince's reaction.

My comment was about Maria being an horrible actress, nothing to do with being a misoginist. Although most of the divas ARE horrible actresses. And she only deserved to be slapped because it Sean Connery says it would merit it.

3.8? Crap.

There was a couple of bright moments, but overall this RAW was the shittest in a long while. Overlong boring battle royal, really shitty squash (Big Daddy V has shown how squashes can be fun), super-shitty women's match, worst Cena segment ever (and that says a hell of a lot), crappy Booker match (and I love Booker).

Granted, the Dating Segment was funny. A lot funnier than most of the stuff I've seen on TV last week. And the Cena - Umaga match was buliding up alright til the shitty face turn finish (I really wanted Umaga to BUTT-splash both of them and have a full out monster tweener). Also, the last little segment was fun with the reference to London and all, but it just built to another shitty McMahon storyline.

They should just go back to booking Cena like a third rate Bret Hart before Bret got better on the mic. Short 2 minute promos to hard sell stuff, or no appearances up until match time. I perfered that booking.

Umanga?

See, I have it on good authority from someone who's actually studied Polynesian culture and language (to a certain extent, not massively massively in-depth, but enough) that yes, 'Umaga' IS pronounced 'Umanga'. So actually, Regal's smarter than everyone else on the WWE roster, and all of you.

But then again, I'm not telling you anything you don't already know...

Yes. She should stay off TV and go make me something to eat. And if god forbid she has to be on TV, she should stand there and not talk. She shouldn't be able to vote either, but that is for another forum.

McMahons illegitimate child storyline made tmz.com today:

Now that the Chris Benoit horror has left the front pages, WWEenie Vince McMahon is finally moving past that whole "death" storyline he was working on -- and slipping into the always entertaining world of -- illegitimate children! Pure class, people!

On "Monday Night Raw," the WWE chairman was served with a paternity suit for a child he's "accused" of siring. Expect Vince to challenge the "mother" to a loser-take-baby steel cage match -- where one of them will leave the ring with a shaved head!

Then expect Eddie Murphy to try and solve his paternity war with Scary Spice using the same technique!

Like they need a storyline for the Holy One to bury Mr. Jobber

Okay if this paternity suit thing is the same deal as Kennedy being Vince's son, what gives? TMZ compared this to the Eddie Murphy/Scary Spice deal, but that is over a newborn. I mean what woman would wait 30 years to file such a suit, and also the kid in this case (Kennedy) would be working for his dad and making six figures!
