Maybe Louisville is overlooking them? I doubt they would come in against West Virginia the same way. Though hey, like I said, I'm all for Louisville sucking, thanks to cabbageboy's awful pimping of them the last few years, complete with that "apology" for throwing the BCS in a mess last year because Louisville dared to lose.

I don't know. It's not like they aren't playing hard, they're just making really, really stupid decisions. Not covering wide receivers on 3rd and 1's, leaving their feet too quick on the tackle, getting playfaked a lot...stuff like that. Many of their players are too fast for their own good. They think they can make decisions and have their speed compensate for their mistakes. They aren't fast enough to do that (nobody is), as they're figuring out tonight.

I'm all for Louisville tumbling, but they are winning by 16. Let's relax here.

To paraphrase Jim Rome, if you're the #8 team in the nation and you're putting up 58 on a mid-major, you should be winning by a lot more than 16

Well, you don't have to hear anymore of my awful pimping of U of L for a while after tonight. That was a fucking embarrassment. Jesus, giving up 42 to MIDDLE TENNESSEE?? The whole first half I was in utter horror at that so called defensive effort. What's worse is that I saw some of this crap last week against Murray but since the final score was 73-10 nobody really cared....yet there were the same stupid penalties, missed tackles, missed assignments, and so on. I think U of L is almost too preoccupied with getting sacks and keep getting beat for big gains. Seriously why the hell would Cassity call a blitz on a 3rd and 16? That idiotic play set the tone for the game.

 

It didn't help that I flipped over to Cincy just kicking the shit out of Oregon St. That one is looking like a dicey proposition right now. As is UK next week.

Yeah, I definitely won't have the Cardinals at #3 this week. Probably won't be in the Top Ten even unless everyone plays bad below them. Really, there are very few teams that look really good right now. As far as teams that actually look like they could win a championship, this would be the complete list:

 

USC

LSU

Oklahoma

 

Texas was actually closer to losing to a Sun Belt team than Louisville was. Florida's got no defense. Wisconsin gave up a bunch of yards to WSU and while they're schedule could get them to 12-0, they'd get rolled by anyone with a legit passing game. West Virginia's pass D is also really vulnerable and would get shredded by a good team. Georgia Tech can't throw the ball. Honestly, outside of that Top 3, everyone else has huge weaknesses and there isn't one team from 4 to 25 that would shock me if they finished 8-5 or something.

Looks like media outlets are already looking ahead to the potential (probably inevitable) Notre Dame controversy. They're anticipating a lot of people putting a lot of heat on ND for the way the Willingham era ended and the fact that by the end of the season, Weis will have hardly done any better, if at all, in the same amount of time.

Louisville's post-MTSU outlook could be affected by how next week's LSU-MTSU game goes.

 

 

If LSU completely shuts down MTSU's offense and kills them, Louisville's poll ranking is pretty much crap unless they beat Rutgers and/or West Virginia.

 

 

 

(Ironically, MTSU is a replacement on LSU's schedule for App State, who were scheduled to play the Tigers on Sept. 1 before ESPN insisted that LSU-Miss State take place on August 30 as their feature Thursday game to start the season.

 

The only reason I even remember this is that my LSU calendar, printed at the end of 2006, has the original schedule of App State, Virginia Tech, Mississippi State on it instead of the current schedule of Mississippi State, Virginia Tech, Middle Tennessee State U.)
