CanadianChris Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 Fucking A&M. I stick with Miami, I'm 4-0.
USC Wuz Robbed! Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 According to Bored's differing picks which he said not to completely trust, I win this week to salvage a bad start.
Danville_Wrestling Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 Looks like Arizona State and UCLA are going to take me late into the night to decide if I win or not. It's just like a presidential election.
Secret Agent Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 There's going to be some major upheaval in the rankings this week. Nos. 1, 2, 4 and 7 have already lost, and Nos. 5, 9 and 10 could be in trouble. It looks like I got both of my differing picks correct and I was ranked #2, so how did I loose?
Broward83 Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 Again, Texas gets by with a squeaker of a victory.. this time thanks to an outstanding 2nd half from my school (Univ. of Houston) and because of "Linebacker Greg Hay recovered a botched punt in the end zone late in the fourth quarter, giving Toledo the game-winning touchdown and completing a dramatic final five minutes as the Rockets edged Iowa State Saturday night, 36-35." Although the thanks really goes to my loathing hatred of the Aggies and them just deciding to not show up to the OB this week. Thanks guys, see you in November.
Broward83 Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 I know.. it'll be nice to be potentially knocking off the number one team.
Danville_Wrestling Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 Well it took four weeks but I finally got my first victory of the season with Arizona State coming back after a slow start to beat Oregon State 44-32. Had some scares today with the teams I picked starting off slow but it all started with Wake Forest rallying against Maryland. I'll take this victory, though, because conference wins aren't bad.

Bored Posted September 23, 2007 Author Report Posted September 23, 2007 After last week where things went shockingly to form, this week things finally are back to "normal" for this contest. Toledo saved the Top 10 from being completely blown apart but still there a lot of changes this week and...CONTROVERSY~! About damn time. This time around we have a 4-0 team not even in the Top 5! *gasp* Also someone doesn't even submit picks this week but hangs on to a Top 10 ranking, the horror! Really this all pales in comparrison to past contests where there'd be three 2-2 teams ranked so don't get too mad if you got snubbed this week. The big winners this week end up being Edwin MacPhisto and nogoondnick with now former #1 teke184 being the big loser. So as to who the new #1 is, it was pretty easy to figure it'd come down to Cuban Linx, who knocked off the #1 team this week, and Secret Agent, who'd been nipping at teke's heels the last two weeks. And the new #1 is.... 1. Oklahoma - Secret Agent 2.4 2. South Carolina - Cuban Linx 2.7 3. Texas - UTBroward 4.2 4. Virginia - Edwin MacPhisto 4.5 5. Oregon - nogoodnick 4.7 6. Syracuse - CanadianChris 5.0 7. N.C. State - AboveAverage484 5.4 8. Nebraska - Mecca 6.0 9. Florida - Urban Warfare 6.3 10. LSU - teke184 6.8 Also Receiving Votes: Arizona (UZI Suicide), Florida State (King), Kent State (JHawk), Miami of Ohio (Hawk 34)
Guest Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 RASRORAOROSRAOFOAKLFLFAA Damn, thought I'd be ranked for sure.
Secret Agent Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 *faints* After three years I finally did it! Even if it's only for one week, I'll bask in the one week as it might not ever come again, so don't think I'm trying to inflate an ego... I'm just happy. I did make my worst picks of the season this week though so I was a little surprised. Just wondering, how many times has OU been ranked #1 in this contest?
Hawk 34 Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 That ends my miracle run. It was good while it lasted, now it's time to fight for .500.
Cuban Linx Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 Looks like i haven't finally reached #1 after all. Pretty sure it's me against Secret Agent next week, i guess i'll have to reach the top the hard way and beat two #1 teams in two weeks.
iggymcfly Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 Bah, both of the differing picks I lost this week went to overtime including the game where Maryland blew a 24-3 lead with 2:00 left in the 3rd quarter. If I get either that or the Bama game, I win. Oh well, what can you do? Guess I'll just have to make a run from here on out.
KingPK Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 Oh, come ON! Taking a ranked team to the brink is a nice moral victory, but I'm probably the best 1-3 team in this whole thing right now. I think I've lost my three games by a combined 3 or 4 picks
Danville_Wrestling Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 Oh, come ON! Taking a ranked team to the brink is a nice moral victory, but I'm probably the best 1-3 team in this whole thing right now. I think I've lost my three games by a combined 3 or 4 picks I've got you beat. My three losses have come on a combined two picks because I lost week one on a tiebreaker and the subsequent weeks by one pick each.
AboveAverage484 Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 Looks like I'm gonna have to prove it on the field. Kind of odd that I'm lower than CC seeing as how I just beat him, but your system is pretty good so I'm not complaining. In fact, I'm probably lucky to be where I am, considering I've won two for sure and maybe three of my games by tie break.
CanadianChris Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 A one-win difference between teams becomes less and less important as the season goes on. I'm also lower than Edwin despite beating him in Week 2, probably because people are picking worse against me overall. Lopsided victories kill you in this contest.
Secret Agent Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 So what you're saying, Chris, is if I beat someone 12-3 in this contest that'd be bad for me?
CanadianChris Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 Yeah, because you'd drop right to the bottom of the picks against category, which still counts for a little bit. As an example, someone who's first in wins and correct picks, but last in correct picks against (.65+.3+2.0=2.95), would be ranked behind someone who's third in wins and correct picks, but first in correct picks against (1.95+.9+.05=2.9). It's what's kept me out of the top two each of the past two seasons.
Bored Posted September 23, 2007 Author Report Posted September 23, 2007 It'd be virtually impossible to be last in correct picks and first in wins. Of the Top 14 right now, all are tied for 11th or better in correct picks. In the end the key is winning and making a lot of correct picks.

Bored Posted September 23, 2007 Author Report Posted September 23, 2007 Okay I'm an idiot. I should point out then though at the moment only two teams in the Top 10 have a Top 10 "Strength of Schedule" and two of the Top 5 have a Bottom 10 "SOS" so it's effects are very minimal this year. But still, win, pick a lot of games right, you'll be fine. Not to pick on Ortonsault but he's twice now gone the route of only picking one differing game from his opponent and both times he lost so trying to get a one point win is not necessarily a very good strategy. The odds of someone winning by 12-3 or such are very, very slim. Four point spreads are typically the biggest you'll see week to week. In the end just like real life college football, it ain't always fair.
Guest Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 Both times he's lost have been only having the Michigan game as the differing pick too.
