Mad Scientist 0 Report post Posted October 2, 2007 SQUASH! And a RUN-IN! The E is pulling out all the stops! And that was one of the weakest stair shots EVER. Gah. But the count was a nice touch, I gotta say.
Guest cheetoe Report post Posted October 2, 2007 Hey, they pay for the tix, they got the right. But I don't think it's entirely the crowd chanting for the sake of chanting. Didn't watch much old ECW, did ya? It's not the same type of crowd. You don't hear dueling chants when it's Batista, Undertaker, or any of the other top faces, only during Cena matches. That says more about Cena than it does about the crowd.

You just hear dead silence during a UT and Batista match after they arrive until they signal for the finisher to alert to crowd to properly pop.

Hawk 34 0 Report post Posted October 2, 2007 Say what you want about Cena but the fact he elicits a response of any kind, something UT and Batista do struggle with during their matches is good. The only main event face to get a positive reaction throughout the entire crowd during the match is actually Punk and that's with a less interested crowd. Brocklock 0 Report post Posted October 2, 2007 I like Punk, but the only WWE match of his I can remember the crowd being into the full match was Punk/Morrison title change. He gets a big pop during his entrance, but the crowd seems dead silent during the match. See all Punk/Morrison matches on PPV, the two Punk/Burke PPV matches, etc.

See all Punk/Morrison matches on PPV, the two Punk/Burke PPV matches, etc. Granted, he has had a share of dead crowds but he's getting reactions throughout the matches on a more consistant basis. The title change was actually a fluke by ending up being in Cincinnati. Punk will probably get the biggest reaction on sunday night.

I wish Punk got more exposure on the big shows and during PPV. I just think Cena's character works better as a borderline heel character... It seems the trouble with WWE is that there are lots of characters that would be tons more interesting if they were used in different ways.
Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted October 2, 2007 Interesting to who? Would you start buying his merchandise if he simply turned heel? Honestly? Who would he feud with? I mean AFTER Triple H? The world's not ready for Kennedy to be a face. Orton will never be a face again. Jericho perhaps...IF the 222 thing is really him, anyway.
JPopStarKami 0 Report post Posted October 2, 2007 Only reason crowds are dead sometimes during Punk's matches is because ECW isn't seen by too large of a home crowd, and generally the Smackdown crowd live sits on their hands for most of ECW/leaves because of that. They really need to move ECW off of SCi-Fi.

They really need to move ECW off of Sci-Fi. Sci-Fi isn't the issue. It's mostly available to the same # of viewers as USA is. The problem is the perception. It's presented as the #3 brand and it's received as the #3 brand.

Depending on how things go, Jerhico, HBK, HHH, Lashley, more if they ever bothered to really elevate someone new occasionally... Hell, if they wanted they could move 'taker over and you can't tell me that face 'taker vs heel cena at wrestlemania with the belt and the streak on the line wouldn't draw. The Tino Standard 0 Report post Posted October 2, 2007 Fun show to be at tonight. Crowd was way more into it tonight than it has been for other WWE events here in recent years. Big cheering section for Randy Orton all night. We were all kinda wondering why the show ended early and why we didn't get the advertised dark match tag team main event, but the Cena injury would explain that. Two Ron Simmons notes: 1. He already did the "DAMN" thing during the Heat taping, so when he did it again on Raw, it's not surprising it didn't get as much of a pop. 2. When we were leaving the arena, there was a huge crowd in the concourse. Turns out Simmons was standing in the middle of the crowd signing autographs for everybody. Pretty cool.
