MLB League Championship Series Thread

I can't believe there's a game on at 10 p.m. eastern on a Monday night. I turned the TV off after the end of the Indians/Red Sox game, came here, saw randomguy's comment, wondered what the hell he was talking about before remembering the game was on. As if the number of people who were going to watch the NLCS wasn't low enough, they have these absurd start times.

We need to wait for west coast people to get home from work, eat dinner, and do the bills first.

I was still at work when it started. I demand the next NL home game start an hour later.

I'd be curious to see any numbers on tivo/dvr recordings of these late games, to see who gives up around midnight and decides to fast forward in the morning before work/school.

Conor's the new Buckner.

At this point, my money's on the Rockies to win it all. They're just too hot and everything is going their way. I've seen more balls drop inside the foul line for them in this postseason than I think I saw for the Cubs all season.

I'd like to point out it's past midnight eastern time and this game's only now going to the fifth inning.

Its not really like this game has that much appeal to anyone in the Eastern or Central Time Zones..It is 10:15 in Denver though.

I like watching all playoff baseball but I'm waking up at 6 tomorrow so bedtime for me.

Cleveland had similar luck against the Yankees, a lot of 2-out hits and a fair number of bloops and such.

I would certainly have no problem with the Rockies winning it all*, but after what happened with the Tigers last year with their near sweep through the pennant playoffs followed by a long rest period before the WS, I'm a bit more hesitant to put my money on them going all the way, though it would be amazing to see them possibly become the first team to sweep through the playoffs since the DS started (and only the second team since the '76 Reds to sweep through the playoffs since the LCS started)

*albeit moreso if Boston fails to make the WS, which unfortunately creates a conundrum for me because I'd like to see the Indians (especially Lofton) get a championship as well

The Rockies are the N.L. champions. Unbelieveable. To think this would not have happened had Tony Gwynn Jr. not gotten a two-out hit late in the season.

This team was built almost entirely on home grown talent. Todd Helton is going to his first World Series.

I went to bed early and didn't even know there was a game. Oh well. I have no interest left in baseball for the duration of the postseason, anyway. With any luck, the AL winners make short work of the Jesus kids and this story can be kept from getting too out of hand.

I really don't think it matters who makes it to the World Series, the Rockies are just too hot right now. It looks like they may be a team of destiny.

On a side note, as much as I want to see Cleveland beat the goddamn Red Sox, I'd almost like to see the Sox win the pennant just so the Rockies can rape them in the World Series.

You sure do like popping in here and repeating that point ad nauseum, though.

I'm happy for the Rockies. Unlike the other 1993 expansion team, the Marlins, there's a real sense that this franchise has at least paid some dues to get to this point. As in none of this "Let's buy a bunch of high priced talent, win it all, then dismantle" crap.

Here's one thing to consider though. Last year the Tigers has sorta fallen off and lost out on the division title before getting back into a groove. So their tank job in the WS was really a bit more in line with the way they finished the season.

The Rockies bought a bunch of high-priced talent, didn't win, dismantled, and languished in the middle to bottom of the league from about 1996 to August 2007.

Funny how sports can actually play out in real life, versus the predictions, huh?

What does that have to do with my post? What sort of victory are you claiming here?

I'm just saying no one was predicting the Rockies to make it to the World Series, at least that I'm aware of. They put together a new plan for this year, and it has obviously worked so far, though.

I sensed a mocking tone in what you said.

Of course nobody predicted that the Rockies would win. They were a third place team till the last day of the season and haven't shown any promise, well, ever. The whole thing is a fluke, really. They got where they are in spite of what their plan was. See also: White Sox
