I'm actually not even sure anymore that Pennington gives the Jets a better chance to win right now. The longer this season goes on, the less amazing of a coach Mangini seems to be.

Tennessee at Houston 1:00 PM CBS: Tennessee is coming off a tough loss and who knows what Young's condition is yet. I'll take Houston by 4.

Baltimore at Buffalo 1:00 PM CBS: The Ravens are back to being manly, even with the callow Boller perhaps starting. Ravens by 6.

Minnesota at Dallas 1:00 PM Fox: Vikings aren't THAT terrible but Dallas is going to be pissed. Cowboys by 14.

Tampa Bay at Detroit 1:00 PM Fox: Tampa is iffy on the road against a decent team, but I'm not sure if Detroit is that decent. I'll still go with the Lions by 3.

Arizona at Washington 1:00 PM Fox: Cardinals are just a tough luck team, now without Warner. Redskins should get back on track by 9.

San Francisco at NY Giants 1:00 PM Fox: Giants are now playing badass, Niners blow pretty hard. NYG by 10.

Atlanta at New Orleans 1:00 PM Fox: The Falcons really, really suck. The Saints aren't as bad as their record, so I'll say New Orleans by 7.

New England at Miami 1:00 PM CBS: Okay, I know the Pats suck in Miami but surely not this time. Not against this crappy Dolphins team. NE by 14.

Kansas City at Oakland 4:05 PM CBS: Chiefs are hard to figure, as are the Raiders. I'll go with Oakland at home, but very close. Raiders by 1.

NY Jets at Cincinnati 4:05 PM CBS: This is like the blind meeting the blind. I have no idea. Since it is in Cincy, I'll take the Bengals by 6.

Chicago at Philadelphia 4:15 PM Fox: Now this is a curious game of two struggling teams. I'm really, really bored with the Eagles though...just enough please. Bears by 3.

St. Louis at Seattle 4:15 PM Fox: Rams are just a mess this year with all the injuries. Seattle is a very dubious team, but they should win here. Seahawks by 10.

Pittsburgh at Denver 8:15 PM NBC: I think Denver will show up here and play with pride. And still lose. Steelers by 7.

 

MON, OCT 22

Indianapolis at Jacksonville 8:30 PM ESPN: Oh man this is going to be tough to call. The Jags can really shake up the AFC with a win here, but the Colts are coming off a bye week and everyone should be back healthy. I'll say Indy by 7.

I think the Cowboys have a legit reason to be concerned. Minnesota's been playing much better since their loss against Green Bay, and they should've beat the Chiefs and Lions the weeks prior to that as well. I don't care how "pissed off" Dallas is, the Vikes could just as easily be 4-1 right now instead of 2-3, and Dallas' offense is going to be challenged once again against a good defense. Not to take away anything from the Cowboys' success this year, but their only real quality win so far has been against Chicago. After this week, their only real tough challenges are going to come against the Redskins and Packers (if Green Bay's offense hasn't completely fallen apart without a running game by then, anyways).

I'm expecting a Dallas blowout. This is a horrible matchup for Minnesota -- they're worst in the league in pass defence, Dallas has a good run defence, and Minnesota doesn't have the weapons to deal with Dallas's biggest weakness, which is their secondary.

Ex-Cowboy RB Springs in coma, has 'no hope' of survival

Doctors on Wednesday told the family of former Dallas Cowboys running back Ron Springs, hospitalized in a coma, there is no hope he will survive, according to a person with knowledge of the situation.

 

Springs, 50, has been unconscious since soon after he entered Dallas Medical City Hospital last week for what friends say he believed was a routine medical procedure to remove a cyst from one of his arms.

 

It remains unclear how or why Springs lapsed into a coma. The hospital has refused comment, and family members have been unavailable.

 

Seven months ago, Springs received a healthy kidney from former Cowboys teammate Everson Walls. That marked the first organ transplant involving former U.S. professional teammates.

 

The Springs family is expected to consider the possibility of donating any usable organs he might have to help others.

I felt that way in the KKKBowl here. New England should win easily, but a 20 point spread is ridiculous.

 

I also have the Colts losing outright. They got massacred here last year and almost always struggle with Jacksonville in recent years. Just a poor matchup for them coming off the bye.

Hey wanted to throw out this question, since the Pats, Colts and Steelers are steamrolling through the AFC, do you think the #6 seed will be better than 8-8? I think the Jags go better than .500, but I don't think 2nd in the AFC East will have more than 6 wins and the AFC West 2nd place team 'may' produce an 8-8 record.

I see the AFC playoff teams being New England, Indianapolis, Pittsburgh, San Diego, Jacksonville and Baltimore, all which won't finish with worse than 9-7 (that being the Chargers alone, rest will finish at 10-6 or better).

I think that's a little ambitious for Baltimore. Cleveland is playing surprisingly well, Cincy might still be able to play spoiler all year, and Pittsburgh is a good team again. The Ravens have too many issues on offense, and their defense isn't quite what it used to be.

 

I think parity is hitting the AFC this year, with the exception of the Pats and Colts. The worst part about that, however, is while there was a period of time earlier this decade where you could look at the NFC and say "yeah, it's the Eagles and maybe some spoiler team like the Seahawks, Panthers, or Packers, but that's it", the AFC is consistently, "BRADY VS MANNING and that's all that matters". Tomlin has the Steelers playing back to where they should be this year, but I don't think they're good enough to challenge the big two.

 

At this point, I see the AFC being New England, Indianapolis, Pittsburgh, San Diego, Jacksonville, and some random 8-8 team, so pretty similar to Porter's predictions. I think it'll be between the Brownies, Titans, Raiders, and Chiefs. The NFC I see being Green Bay, Dallas, Tampa Bay, Seattle, Washington, and then a tight race between the Panthers, Cardinals, Giants, and the leftovers from the NFC North.
