The College Football Thread 11/6 - 11/10

Recommended Posts

Not the most exciting of line ups this week as there is just one BCS Top 25 match-up and it doesn't involve anyone with national title hopes. Oregon is off this week and LSU might as well be as they are playing Louisiana Tech. Kansas is at Oklahoma State, who is one of the most inconsistent teams in the country even during games as was shown last week against Texas. Ohio State might have be careful of not looking ahead to next week in their game against Illinois but I don't think anyone is anticipating an upset.

Despite the overall "eh" schedule, the usually dire noon games probably have their best pair of the year in Michigan/Wisconsin and Wake/Clemson.

Also, I'm gonna say that my Hoos change things up this week and win by 2 instead of by 1.

FYP. Virginia sucks on the road, I'd be surprised to see them pull out a win this week.

I thought by now Nebraska would be looking to organize a public execution of Callahan. I really didn't see a way he'd keep his job the rest of this year.

Virginia generally sucks on the road but is much improved this year. I watched the Wyoming game and wrote it off as a horrible start-of-the-season game from a pathetically unprepared team; both personnel decisions and the offensive gameplan were so disastrous to start the year that Virginia would have lost that game at home too. That NC State team is looking better by the week, even if they're still in the bottom half of the conference.

I think Virginia is about 50/50 on this one depending on how well Wright plays on his return. Should be a pretty grotesque 16-13 puntapalooza type of game regardless of who wins. However, I do expect Virginia to beat VT in a blowout (i.e., like 4 points) to end the year.

I pray to the football gods that Bama gets Texas A&M in a bowl game. Just one last measure of revenge before Franchione gets the boot.

USC isn't going to the Holiday Bowl. It's pretty much impossible. If they lost once, they'd be going to a much worse bowl game than that. They'd need to lose, and have ASU lose twice. If they win out, they'll make it to a BCS Game. I have a hard time believing they wouldn't get to a BCS Game if they won out.

I'd say it's very likely they'll end up in the Holiday Bowl, if they beat Cal and UCLA but lose to ASU. If we assume Oregon and ASU run the table they'll end up in BCS bowls and then the Holiday gets the choice of USC or Cal. They wouldn't pick a four loss Cal team over a three loss USC team.

Bored, your scenario has USC losing to ASU. King's scenario has USC winning out (which means defeating ASU). Of course both scenarios would play out differently. If USC won out, no it's not "very likely" that they fall to Holiday.

I agree USC is almost a lock to end up in the Rose or Fiesta Bowl if they win out, depending on Oregon getting into the BCS Title Game. But he says that if USC loses once they would end up in a much worse bowl game, which is highly unlikely. The Holiday Bowl isn't going to pass on USC if they are available unless they completely tank the last three games.

6:30 minutes left and Louisville's still right in the game against West Virginia, down 31-28 with the ball. If they win tonight, not only do they knock WVU out of the national championship race, they give themselves a pretty reasonable shot to win the Big East as well.

No need to worry about that, since U of L let Pat White roam straight into the endzone for a 38-31 win. Then of course fucked up the kickoff and landed at the 1. Even with a win there was no way U of L could have won the conf. At best the league record would be 5-2 and UConn would have the tiebreaker due to that bogus win. In other words UConn would have had to lose out, and while I think they could lose to Cincy and WVU, they won't lose to Syracuse.

Well, I was thinking they could win a 3-way tiebreaker, if it was between them, UConn, and WVU, but looking at the Big East site quickly, it appears that the 2nd tiebreaker is BCS ranking so they would have been screwed anyway. It's a moot point anyway though with West Virginia winning.

There was some thought that Michigan might just concede this game with Henne and Hart banged up since they still control their own destiny to win the conference and with their at large BCS hopes being very slim.

And just like that Michigan scores, although I don't know how they couldn't review that "simultaneous catch" call.
