I don't want Culpepper. He's old and banged up. The Bears are (supposed to be) a running team, so we need little more than a game manager at quarterback. Let's try not to repeat the Grossman errors: short, immobile, and overconfident is no way to go through life. I'm not asking to run the option here, but I'd like a guy who is a departure from what we have now, where you're too short to see down the field as you bomb it to nobody in particular, moments before getting planted like a seed. Kotz told me that the Vols' quarterback (forgot his name!) would be a good fit for Chicago, as long as he could handle moving from the balmy southeast to BEAR WEATHER.

Yeah, I don't think Ainge would be a good fit for any NFL team as a starting quarterback. Although I'm all for the Bears getting another totally incompetent QB, of course.

Also, I don't think I'd knock Grossman's height all that much, since yeah although he's a bit shorter than your typical QB (the prototype seems to be 6'4", 220 lbs.), he's not Doug Flutie or anything. It's like when people were knocking Cade McNown for the same thing a few years back- he's not crapping it in the pros because he's too short, he's crapping it because he sucks. He's 6'1". As a point of reference, Drew Brees is 6'0", and Brett Favre is 6'2" and you don't hear any complaining about their height.

Well, I guess Mel Kotzper Jr. is not to be trusted! I don't know anything about college football. Offensive line and running back are much more pressing needs right now. We can tread water with Orton if the rest of the puzzle pieces are mended.

Oh, and Kiper's top 5 QB prospects are as follows:

1. Matt Ryan, Boston College

2. Brian Brohm, Louisville

3. Andre' Woodson, Kentucky

4. Dennis Dixon, Oregon

5. Joe Flacco, Delaware

Who the hell is Joe Flacco?

To the poster who asked if Benson was that bad, I point out that the Bears are dead last in the league in ypc.

He's worse than that stat denotes. Down on first contact on EVERY play. Slow through the handoff, and NEVER in stride at the line.

Wow, at least Jones isn't slow on the handoff, and is decent up until the first sign of contact.

I wish the Giants would put Lorenzen in. It would be so hilarious, yet I don't think even he would throw 4 INTs for TDs in a single game. Those that watched UK when he was there know that Loreznen will be very good for most of a game, but he'll throw that ONE INT that truly wrecks the team.

Neither would Eli, since his top was 3 INT's for TD's.

Some NFL players will donate part of their paychecks from the league's Dec. 23 games to help needy retired players.

Kansas City Chiefs lineman Kyle Turley said at a news conference to announce the plan Tuesday at Mike Ditka's restaurant that he will donate his entire $25,000 paycheck.

Ditka has been vocal in publicizing the plight of former players who struggle with the effects of lingering physical problems.

"We make a lot of money playing this game and it's because of the guys that played before us," Turley said.

Very nice of Kyle Turley.

Jeff Garcia's back injury is preventing him from throwing the football. That's no good. We're not going to be able to force six turnovers every week, and the fifteen yards of total offense we racked up in the second half of the Washington game isn't going to cut it nine times out of ten. If this turns into a lingering injury, the Bucs are done.

They'll still win the South, because somebody has to, and there's no way they blow their lead to any of the other turds in there. Well, maybe New Orleans still has a fighting chance.

GOD, THIS LEAGUE IS SUCH A FUCKING SHITHOLE. The ghost of Pete Rozelle must be giddy at all this parity!

Updated standings:

1. New England

2. Dallas

3. Green Bay

4. Indianapolis

5. Pittsburgh

6-31. The Blob

32. Miami

Uh, you guys know NFL.com is streaming the Cowboys/Packers game for the people who don't get NFL Network, right?

Still sucks, but at least it's something.

Didn't know that. Are they gonna do that for all the games on the NFL network?

Ha, semantics. You got yourself a shitty QB dude. Trust me, I know, I've been forced to deal with Losman for years.

It takes 4-5 years to make a good NFL QB... I know a lot of people have lost patience given how certain guys can just come in and start running things.

Losman for years??!! You make it seem like he's been there for 6 years sucking shit, have some patience. Fuck, guys like Troy Aikman, John Elway, and Steve Young wouldn't be able to make it in today's high standards must win now league. Eli Manning is feeling that now.

I dunno, and now that I'm re-reading the page, I'm not even sure if they're streaming that game. I can't tell based on the way they have it worded.

There's a terrific article in the New York Times today by Michael Lewis regarding the peculiar social status of NFL kickers. It's a great read.

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/10/28/sports/p...nted=1&_r=3

I've never really gotten the hate for kickers. To me, it's probably the hardest mental game in football. More often then not, if you are out there kicking a field goal, the game is resting solely on you. Not on a combination of other people like other positions. It's just you. The only help you get is someone holds the ball, and you have a line holding the opponents back. Everything about the kick as far as succeeding is only you. On top of that, you are ONLY brought out to kick every so often. So litterally, almost everytime you kick in a game, it's a game breaking moment possibly.

I would HATE to have that position. You never get praise, and if you miss, it's because you suck.

To me, out of the Seattle Seahawks, I have the most respect for our kicker Josh Brown. There is no one on that team that delivers more then him. If the game is on the line, Brown almost always comes through for the team. On top of that, he's not afraid to tackle someone if he has to like against the Bears this season where he took out Hester. If the Seattle Seahawks didn't have Josh Brown, they probably wouldn't even be half as good of a team.

Who the hell is Joe Flacco?

Pitt transfer. He has a great arm, makes outstanding reads in a very pro style passing offense attack, knows how to check off to underneath receivers, and has very solid mobility with the ability to tuck and run if needed. Can throw a deep ball or a hard bullet across the middle. Stands 6-6 so seeing over the line is not going to come into question.

Only knocks on him is he didn't throw many touchdown passes (of course, having a running back like Omar Cuff will passing on the goal line pretty much un-needed), does need to work on his accuracy just a little bit more and level of competition is going to come into question. He still threw for 3000 plus yards with a 67% completion and a quarterback rating of 152.5

For a middle round though, he could be one of the best steals in the draft as he does have all the tools to be an NFL quarterback. If he has a fantastic combine, I could see him going first day from a team looking to take a shot on him.

Honestly if he wasn't at Delaware, he would be one of the first three quarterbacks drafted.

And I don't see Mike Hart being anywhere close to a high pick. Guy is still 5-9 when the day ends and that is an awful lot to draft a short guy with decent but not blazing speed.

Ya. The wording is bad, but I don't think they're gonna broadcast it live. Probably just highlights.
