Cheech Tremendous 0 Report post Posted January 18, 2008 Monte Kiffin signed a multi-year extension to stay on with the Tampa Bay Bucs. Kiffin is probably the best defensive coordinator in football and was a hot commodity this offseason. He'll paid about $2 million a year under the new deal. This actually ties into a funny story that didn't get much press. At the end of the Raiders season, Rob Ryan was dismissed as defensive coordinator of the Oakland Raiders by head coach Lane Kiffin. According to those who know Lane, he already had an agreement in place with his father to step in as the new coordinator. However, Al Davis went behind Lane's back and rehired Ryan the very next day. This apparently pissed off Lane to no end and he has basically let it be known that he's available for a top college job. I swear the Raiders will never field another title contender while Al Davis is still alive.

Cheech Tremendous 0 Report post Posted January 18, 2008 Wait, wait, wait. I thought the Jets signed Rob Ryan? From the New York Post (Jan. 5) January 5, 2008 -- JetsNew York Jets defensive coordinator Bob Sutton, whose job has been rumored to be in peril, still might not be able to sleep comfortably, but one thing became certain yesterday: He won't be replaced by Raiders' defensive coordinator Rob Ryan. Ryan, a son of former NFL head coach Buddy Ryan and a good friend of Eric Mangini's, reportedly had been a lock to be fired in Oakland according to multiple reports. Raiders team spokesman Mike Taylor shot those reports down by announcing Ryan will remain with the team. "The recent conjecture regarding the removal of Rob Ryan is incorrect and the constant barrage of rumors is irresponsible," Taylor said. "The Raiders organization stated that the speculation that Rob Ryan will be relieved of his duties should stop." That doesn't leave Sutton a lock to remain the Jets' coordinator. Ryan's brother Rex, fired as Ravens' defensive coordinator and whom Mangini also knows well, is being interviewed by several teams.
USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted January 18, 2008 If people want to see what would happen if Jason Garrett took a head coaching job in the NFL this offseason, just look at how Lane Kiffin is doing with the Raiders. Yeah I know it's a worse circumstance with Al Davis as your boss, but the lack of respect shown to him is probably what Garrett can expect.

Cheech Tremendous 0 Report post Posted January 18, 2008 I know Lane Kiffin is young and inexperienced, but he shouldn't be treated with such a lack of respect by Davis. If you are confident enough to hire the man to lead the team, let him actually make some decisions. I know Lane is only a first year guy and may never get another shot like this, but he should have quit the very day that Al pulled this shit on him. Stand up and be a man. Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted January 19, 2008 True on being "on the bubble" in the NFC but than again, if you win 10-11 games you should be able to get into the playoffs fairly easily compared to the AFC where you may be on the bubble with such a record depending on the division you play in. In 2006 the NFC saw 3 division leaders finish at 10-6, 10-6, and 9-7. In 2005, the division leaders went 11-5, 11-5, 11-5, and 13-3. The AFC saw their division leaders go: 12-4, 13-3, 12-4, and 14-2. In 2005, the leaders went 10-6, 11-5, 14-2, and 13-3. In both years, the AFC also saw more teams win at least 10 games. In 2005, 3 divisions had 2 teams win 10 games and Miami went 9-7. 2006 saw more parity but there were still 5 teams in the AFC vs. the NFC's 3 that won 10 games or more. I think the thing that's important to recognize here is actually the 2007 season, moreso than the previous two years. Free agency and the salary cap hit the NFC first and hardest because they were the dominant conference at the time that these things came into play, with the Rams and Eagles coming up in the late 90's/early 00's as proof. The AFC will start feeling it more and more as time goes by, very soon; the trend is certainly lending itself to that. The NFC had division leaders at 13-3, 13-3, 10-6, and 9-7, with the wildcards at 10-6 and 9-7. The AFC had 16-0, 13-3, 11-5, and 10-6 as division leaders, and wildcards at 11-5 and 10-6. The only team that got really screwed there was the Browns, but they had a chance to make the playoffs had they not screwed up so badly against a team that went 7-9. Same thing with the couple teams "on the bubble" in the NFC- the Vikes shot themselves in the foot by losing to Washington, and the Bears/Eagles by losing to the Vikings. Kawalimus 0 Report post Posted January 20, 2008 Don't expect Cameron to do wonders with the offense. He basically just kept Norv Turner's system in San Diego, so I don't know what he'll do in Baltimore? Keep Brian Billick's? Billick had no offensive system. If Harbaugh or Cameron can run an offense that actually knows what its doing, and functions as a unit, that would be an improvement over what Billick brought to the table. If Billick had any system it was ""rest the players, make sure no one gets hurt in practice. Then go into the games unprepared and hope we get enough turnovers so we can get a touchdown, or two if we're lucky." Marvin how can you say Harbaugh won't do anything? This AFC north division is unpredictable, you never know what's gonna happen the next year in this thing. Only that the 3rd place team always end up winning the division the next year so the Bengals will win it next year . People keep saying this garbage about how "NO ONE WANTS THOSE BALTIMORE OR ATLANTA JOBS" but why? I know why someone might be uncomfortable coming into Baltimore with these egos but why not take a Baltimore job? Cause it's not NY or Dallas? When Bill Belichick took over the NE job it wasn't the best job in the world nether. That team was a loser franchise in a town that preferred another sport. But he came in did what he had to do and now he's a legend. So why not come into Baltimore and do the same thing with this squad? There's no reason just the media doesn't wanna focus on a place like Baltimore they would rather talk about NY or Dallas or another huge market.

Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted January 21, 2008 Brett Favre needs to retire. There, I said it. He's turning, I believe, 39 this year? Dude is awesome during the regular season, but I'm sick and fucking tired of his playoff performances. This recent choke job just magnifies it in the worst possible way. I know there were various aspects of the team that also failed where they otherwise have had great years, but Rodgers is entering the 4th year of a 5 year deal he signed when he was a rookie. The team is young, and Rodgers needs time to develop and grow up with the team. My only concern is that Aaron seems to be kind of injury-prone, which is something we're not used to as Green Bay Packer fans. He's played great even at his old age which speaks volumes about his ability, but I think this had to be the year. And I'm saying that completely disregarding any sort of selfish interest because they're playing next year at Seattle, which means I can finally go and watch him live (yes, my first NFL game I'll actually be allowed inside to!) That would be big for me, but I want to see the team doing well altogether much more than I want to see Brett win another one.

Of these games there is annually a home and away series between division rivals. Therefore 6 of New England’s games are as follows: Team……………….….Win% Buffalo Bills…………...0.438 Miami Dolphins………. 0.063 New York Jets………...0.250 Buffalo Bills……………0.438 Miami Dolphins………..0.063 New York Jets………...0.250 Next, each division plays another division within their conference on a rotating basis from one season to the next. In 2007 New England’s division played the AFC North. In 2008 it worked out that New England’s AFC East Division plays another weak AFC division, the AFC West, leaving the AFC South to be played in 2009… Team……………….….Win% Denver Broncos………..0.438 Kansas City Chiefs……..0.250 Oakland Raiders………..0.250 San Diego Chargers…….0.688 Additionally, each division in one conference plays one of the four-team divisions from the other conference, also on a rotating basis from season to season. In 2006 the AFC East played the NFC North, followed in 2007 by the NFC East. In 2008 it’s the AFC East’s turn to play another weak division, the NFC West, and in 2009 the AFC East will face off against the NFC South… Team……………….….Win% Arizona Cardinals..…….0.500 San Francisco 49ers……0.313 Seattle Seahawks………0.625 St. Louis Rams…………0.188 Finally, as a division winner in 2007, the Patriots are scheduled to play the division winners that reside in the two divisions the AFC East isn’t scheduled to play in 2008. These games are the reason the new schedules are not announced until the end of the previous regular season. Therefore: Team……………….….Win% Indianapolis Colts.……0.813 Pittsburgh Steelers…….0.625 Total………………………..6.192 Average SOS (6.192/16)……0.387 It looks like bullshit and smells like bullshit, but unfortunately, this one is not a gift. JJ Johnson 0 Report post Posted January 21, 2008 My wish is for the Cowboys to make a big splash in the offseason, specifically Julius Jones somewhere in the Gulf of Mexico. Surely the league is not devoid of guys to break off the occasional twenty-yarder while spending the rest of their time making it to the line of scrimmage and falling down (in true Eddie George post-Lorenzo Neal fashion!), and since Barber no doubt deserves the starting job, maybe Dallas could trade him for a receiver to help bolster that area of the offense when TO gets hurt. MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted January 24, 2008 Im officially putting the Ravens on the 0-16 watch for next year. They get the AFC South (Indy, Tennessee, Jacksonville and Houston) and the NFC East (Dallas, New York, Washington and Philadelphia) as well as the Dolphins again (ha ha they couldnt beat em in 07, why would I think they could beat them in 08?) and Oakland (ok..there might be the 1 victory out of 16..they might be able to beat Oakland..). They conveniently get the two divisions that sent 2 Wild Card winners to the playoffs this year. The AFC North as a whole is going to get killed and it could very well come down to how the teams play in the division but the Ravens have no chance in doing well vs Pittsburgh/Cleveland/Cincy anyway.. Their out of division games pretty much look like 9 guaranteed loses right out of the gate..and the one possible vs Oakland.
