NFL Offseason Thread

Recommended Posts

Well, the Matt Walsh videotapes have been delivered to the NFL.

And they're just reiterating what was already known, what Belichick had admitted to, and what the league had punished him & the team for.

That was worth the wait.

But the new rumor seems to be that there's another disgruntled ex-employee that has the videotape of the Rams walk-through before the Super Bowl. One has to wonder why this person didn't come forward to corroborate Walsh's story 3 months ago when this story ... nah, why bother, let's just presume the Pats are guilty.

A second shooter in the upper bowl of the Superdome?

Let's take it to trial.

"Back and to the left......back and to the left......baaaaack and to the left."

Baltimore is going to be one of the three worst teams in the league.

Who are your other two? The Bears will be awful, but so will the entire division, which the Vikings will win with an 8-8 mark, so it's not like they'll be able to fall all the way to the bottom. I don't see it getting immediately better for the 49ers, Rams, and Dolphins, either.

Atlanta is going to be so bad, they are going to be the three worse teams by themselves. Offense, defense, special teams. And we will get the first 3 picks in the draft!!

And there will probably be more penalties to the Pats for blatantly lying about the extent of their taping.

So expect their other wrist to be slapped slightly harder. It might get a little red this time. And there will probably be some stern pointing. That will teach them.

Atlanta, Miami, and Chicago are my picks for worst three. I don't even think Baltimore finishes last in their division.

Falcons are easily a 6 win team, thus they'll be middle of the road bad.

Bears won't be so bad, just because of that division.

Parcells is gonna have a heart attack around week 12 though.

Marked.

Edit---Better put more than one word for a response!

The falcons traded their best defensive player, their pro bowl tight end, their best defensive lineman, have a unproven QB, a new head coach, a shaky secondary.

And Joey Harrington will be the starting QB again.

They aren't winning 6 games.

Also, this whole Cedric Benson story is getting pretty big for a underachieving, probably was giong to get cut in another season running back, huh?

Shouldn't Chris Redman be the starter?

I think Atlanta, Oakland, and Miami will end up being the worst 3. San Fran and K.C. (even with the draft they had) could make a run for it as well.

If the Falcons win six games, the city should throw them a fucking parade.

Can the Falcons pull off a winless season? If any team has a shot, they do, but I think their division just isn't strong enough. All those NFC South teams seem to be capable of losing to anyone at any time.

He started because he was Bobby P's boy. I am not sure he will make it out of a preaseason being the starter.

My hope is that DJ Shockly will come back from his Knee injury and play well and steal the starting spot. Of course they will then trade him because they drafted Matt Ryan and he deserves a chance to be the bust he will be.

Tampa embarrassed Atlanta twice last year, and the Falcons have actually gotten worse this offseason. Those games seem like a lock. New Orleans is improved. Carolina is the one real wild-card, as it's hard to know how much of last season's performance you can chalk up to injuries.

I'll say it before and I'll say it again... The Falcons should've went with Gholston or Dorsey in the 1st, and waited in the 2nd to get Brohm.

I know Brohm will be a better pro then Matt Ryan.

Matt Ryan was the dumbest pick possible. They cut Rod Colman so they needed a interior defensive guy to replace him. SO YOU DRAFT MATT FUCKING RYAN.

Its tough being a fan of a team sometimes. Really fucking tough.

I'm aware that you're also football retarded. You're shitting me if you think the Vikings will finish with a better record than the Packers next year. Favre retiring may be a blessing in disguise, for all we know, and this team was a field goal kick away from the Super Bowl last season.

But I'll agree the Raiders might see some marked improvement this year- but the Rams aren't that far off, they actually didn't have a bad start last season until they got hit with injuries, and they're a few defensive players away from taking back the West. The Niners and Dolphins are still huge rebuilding projects, though.

And besides Purple Jesus what do the Vikes really have on offense? I mean until Jackson proves he can do something they'll stack the box to stop Peterson from game one.

Atlanta (worst) and St. Louis (third).

Other teams that will fucking suck and like it: Carolina and Tennessee.

I think Miami's actually going to be not horrendous. They certainly can't get any worse, right? A respectable 4-12 where they play a couple tough teams close for three quarters but get outclassed in the other one. Good execution and good luck separating them from being in the neighborhood of 7-9. Parcells has cleaned house already, and has a young team and new staff that's going to bust ass to keep from getting fired. I like those odds.

Chicago, on the other hand, is going to be a horrible 6-10. They'll sweep Green Bay again, though.

Miami is my team, so I am biased, but I expect them to win 5 or 6 games this year. If Ronnie Brown is healthy, he should put up some good numbers. He was doing great last year behind a horrible line, and Miami's line should be much better this year. A better line means more time for the QB's, and I would expect slightly better play from the QB this year over last year's stats. There were a few big bodies added to help stop the run, but the secondary is stil suspect at best. Still, I think they will be far from horrible.

People just need to watch game film from his games with the Packers. They stopped him cold both times.

As long as the Texans can finish either 9-7 or 8-8 this year, I'll be happy. Getting a win over Indy and sweeping either Jax or Tenn would be nice too.

Ever since the Texans came into the league, they've hovered around my third or fourth favorite team. Convince me to bump them to number one!

I thought the Vikings replaced Tarvaris Jackson, by the way. I remember thinking "oh, that'll improve their offense now that they're not trotting out crappy Tarvaris Jackson." Either that happened, or Trey Wingo appears in my dreams.

I can not believe this hasn't been posted here yet!

OWINGS MILLS, Md. (AP)—The Baltimore Ravens are doing more than merely fighting for jobs at their first mandatory minicamp under new coach John Harbaugh.

They’re fighting each other, too.

Nearly all 85 players in camp were involved in a squabble Saturday that began when offensive tackle Oniel Cousins and defensive tackle Amon Gordon threw punches after running back Allen Patrick was taken down hard on a burst up the middle. All the players surged toward the middle of the field, and it was nearly two minutes before peace was restored.

“Guys are competing, so tempers flare a little bit,” Harbaugh said.

Later during practice, which was held indoors because of rain, defensive backs Corey Ivy and Frank Walker came to blows during a blocking drill.

“Don’t grab me, man!” Ivy yelled.

After the players were separated, veteran cornerbacks Chris McAlister and Samari Rolle spoke with Walker, who signed as a free agent during the offseason after playing with Green Bay in 2007.

“Chill out, man,” Rolle said. “There’s too much at stake.”

For the first time in a decade, the Ravens are conducting a minicamp without Brian Billick, who was fired in January after a nine-year run. There are jobs at stake and a new offense to learn under Cam Cameron, which has fueled emotions at the three-day camp that started Friday. The players aren’t wearing pads, but there’s plenty of hitting going on—much of it after the whistle.

“Man, it’s intense out there,” tight end Todd Heap said. “Everybody’s trying to learn what’s going on and everybody’s a little bit on edge.”

In a way, that’s how Harbaugh likes it. Seeing two players fight on the practice field is nothing new, but to have the rest of the team join the fray is a sight not often seen on the football field. Yet none of the coaches immediately sought to restore peace, and defensive coordinator Rex Ryan was actually laughing as he stood in the background.

Ryan is one of the few holdovers from the Billick regime. He worked with Harbaugh years ago at the University of Cincinnati, and knows that Baltimore’s new head coach won’t let things get too crazy.

“He’s always in control. When it’s not going his way, he’ll get it going his way,” Ryan said. “That’s part of it right now. I think there are a lot of people that are anxious and uncertain. We want it to be chaos. That’s what John’s talked about. You look at the tempo of our offense, the way we’re setting things up and the different things we’re doing under Cam. It’s just new. It’s more pressure on everybody.”

Pressure is trying to rebound from a 5-11 season, which is exactly what the Ravens are attempting to do. Throw in the uncertainty of playing for a new coach, an undetermined depth chart and the fatigue that comes from practicing twice a day, and just about anything can happen.

“You go 5-11, guess what? You’d better be intense,” defensive end Trevor Pryce said. “It doesn’t matter who the coach is. You have to develop a sense of urgency at 5-11. You have to earn the right to have a calm and relaxing offseason, and you can’t do that at 5-11.”

Pryce, however, can’t condone the fighting. Not while teams like the New England Patriots and New York Giants are using their minicamps to build on successful seasons.

“Go ahead, wrestle each other, pull each other’s facemasks, yeah, great, wonderful, have fun. Now we gotta go play the Patriots. They won 18 straight football games. The Giants won the Super Bowl. Do we really have to prove we’re all men?” Pryce said. “If we can get all this out of the way now, scrapping and being undisciplined and 80 men jumping in a pile together, fine. So now we’ve proved I’m tough, you’re tough, hooray, we’re all tough. Are we a good football team? What’s more important, proving you’re tough or proving we’re a good football team? That’s how I look at it.”

Pryce said he was laughing at his teammates as they piled together in the middle of the field. It wasn’t funny to Cousins and Gordon, but afterward they seemed at peace with each other.

“At the end of the day, we’re teammates,” Cousins said.

“We settled it like men,” Gordon insisted. “No hard feelings.”

Harbaugh liked the show of emotion, but doesn’t expect to see a similar show anytime soon.

“We had a good practice. Our guys are competitive, they like football, it’s going to happen,” he said. “I think as they realize the tempo of the practice is going to stay the same, it will probably happen less and less. They’re a feisty bunch.”

Agreed that Carolina is the one team likely to lose to Atlanta in the NFC South.

Carolina is in the process of turning over their O-Line and LB corps, has only one real weapon at WR (Steve Smith), an injury-prone gambler QB with no good backups, and a bunch of injury-prone RBs.

They can pretty much put DBs all over Steve Smith and then blitz the shit out of Delhomme and DeAngelo Williams to shut down their offense.

Cam Camerson resurfaced in a prominent role so soon after last year? He should have to toil away in coaching purgatory after a one-year one-win head coaching tenure, like a tight ends coach or something.
