We're definitely going to need the time. At the end of last season, it seemed like things sort of fizzled out with the commish and we didn't get a lot accomplished in the off season in the ways of resolving some questions. I'm just going to sort of act as the commish as long as no one else in the league has any problems with it. I've got plenty of experience running fantasy sports leagues. I run a basketball and football league every year and we never have any problems. I have access to the internet at work and at home and I'm always accessible. This is my favorite fantasy baseball league that I'm in and I don't want it to get too late in the season before we start drafting since it always seems to take us right up to opening day for us to get done with drafting. I've sent MJ a pm letting him now that I'm going to get the league started but I haven't gotten any sort of response yet. Hopefully he will at least be back to participate in the league with his team. I was going to wait another week or so to get this started but then I noticed that only 13 out of the 20 teams actually posted keepers at the end of last season. I know some teams were unsure of the number of keepers since the commish never set it in stone. It seemed that everyone was going with 6 keepers as the number of keepers for this year. I'm going to send out pm's to everyone in the league telling them the thread is up. Everyone needs to make sure their keepers are correct and confirm that they are still going to be in the league this year. I'm sure we will have at least a few spots opening in the league for new teams as we always do. There was also discussion last year that never was resolved about what we want to do with the length a team can have a keeper. Some people wanted no limit, some wanted a 3 year limit, and some wanted a combination of the two. We can hash this out once we get all 20 teams confirmed and keepers locked in. Last year we started drafting around Feb 5th or 6th and that was just enough time to get done drafting before opening day so that's the time I'm shooting to start the drafting. We had a great finish in the playoffs last year and crowned a new champion that came all the way from fourth in the standings to win the title. Anyways, I’m quite excited about baseball this year and I think we’re going to have a great year!

Krankor 0 Report post Posted January 16, 2008 For reference, here are the updated rules from the end of last year for any potential new teams that will probably be joining us at some point. A. Teams can select a maximum of SIX keepers of any position. B. Teams can choose to keep less than SIX keepers. C. All keepers must be turned in by November 1st or 1 day after the World Series is over at midnight Pacific Standard Time. After this point if you have not turned in keepers and wish to be in the league the following season you will start off with a fresh team with no keepers. D. Teams will lose a draft pick in the forthcoming draft corresponding to the round each of their keeper selections were drafted in. (Example: Albert Pujols is chosen as a keeper and he was drafted in the first round of the previous draft. Team will not select a first round pick in the next draft because Pujols will be that team’s guaranteed player for the first round in the draft.) E. If a team wants to keep an undrafted player as a keeper, than that undrafted player has the draft value in the following draft of final round selection. (Example: If a team wants to keep three players chosen as undrafted free agents, then in the following draft these keepers will act as their draft picks in rounds 18, 19, and 20.) F. If a player chosen as a keeper was drafted by another team and acquired via trade or as a free agent, the team choosing the keeper will lose the corresponding round pick that the player was drafted in. (Example A: If a team trades for Derek Jeter, who was drafted in round three, and wants him as a keeper then Derek Jeter will act as their third round draft pick in the following draft.) (Example B: Chris Carpenter is drafted in round three and then dropped, probably due to injury. Then another team picks him up out of the free agent player pool and declares him a keeper, the team keeping Carpenter will have a draft value of Round 3 for the following draft not a Round 20 value like an undrafted free agent would.) G. If more than one keeper was drafted in the same round, than one of the keepers will have its draft value round bumped to the following round. (Example: A team wants to keep Jeter and Ichiro, acquired via trade, and both players were selected in round two of the draft. In the following draft Jeter will be that teams keeper for round 2 and Ichiro for round 3.) H. Keepers can be kept for 3 years at their original draft value. After 3 years, if they have a draft value of round 11-20, their round value would have 5 rounds deducted from it. If the player has a draft round value of 1-10, than 3 rounds would be deducted from it. This would happen each year until the player would eventually be worth a first round draft pick. (Example: Brian McCann has a draft value of 18. Once three years are up, he would have a draft value to start the fourth season of 13. If kept for the fifth season, he would have a value of 8. If kept for a sixth season, he would have a value of 5. If kept for the seventh season, he would have a value of 2. If kept again, he would have a value of 1 and that value would remain constant until Brian McCann is no longer kept.) I. No trades will be processed on Sundays after 12pm, noon Eastern Standard Time. Any trade that is not cleared on or before this time will be processed on Monday. This will ensure that managers do not get trapped having empty roster spaces due to a late trade right before the 12 AM, midnight Pacific Time, deadline the rosters for the coming week are due. J. These rules are subject to review and revision after the season is over and prior to the start of drafting at the discretion of the league and the commissioner. Next is a listing of each team's keepers. The order of the teams is the order of how the standings finished out last year. First to Last. treble 0 Report post Posted January 16, 2008 I don't think MJ posts here anymore. I'll try and get some keepers posted in a little bit, if I can remember what my team is.

Cartman 0 Report post Posted January 16, 2008 I'm back as well. Although what the hell was I thinking taking Dice-K in the 1st round last year... I had to keep him cause my team sucked, but god I hope he makes it worth losing my 1st this year.
Krankor 0 Report post Posted January 16, 2008 BTW, If you guys want to change keepers before we get things going I'm not against it and I don't think anyone else will be against. We did do that last year, and there are still teams turning in their keepers. I'm concerned with some of the guys on my team being in the yahoo player pool. They tend to be lazy as hell on that sometimes. Especially Buchholz... who knows if he'll be in the pool or not. He very well could start the year off in the minors because of the log jam at SP on the Red Sox.

Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted January 16, 2008 So would I be able to give this a shot, or are there no open slots?
treble 0 Report post Posted January 16, 2008 I guess it depends on whether or not someone drops out. I'd wager that MJ is dead, or something (I froze...), so his spot might be open. If not, there are usually 2 or 3 other non-keeper leagues here that you could join.

MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted January 16, 2008 Im tempted to keep Burrell over Valverde cause with Burrell I can be more confident he'll put up similar numbers (hes been really consistent over the last 3 years around 30 hr, 90 rbi .500 slg and a .390 obp. Valverde worries me pitching in Houston. I dont really have any other pitchers I need to keep (Bedard/Vazquez/Nathan) should be enough and I could probably use the extra bat on the offensive side. I dunno..Ijust want to improve on my 4th place finish from last year and win the league this year.. Edit: better idea..Im going to keep Corey Hart, as his numbers are roughly the same except for steals and everyone loves steals! I'll have to think about this for a bit.. Styles 0 Report post Posted January 16, 2008 I'm here! Krankor, your volunteering to be the Commish for next season is appreciated and accepted. I'm simply too busy to put as much time as I did into it most of last year. I'd love to rejoin the league as a manager though, yes.
Styles 0 Report post Posted January 16, 2008 Gosh, looking over my team, it's as depressing and in need of a blow up as my beloved Orioles are. I'll have to make do: Roy Halladay (Round 2) Brian Roberts (Round 3) Edgar Renteria (Round 8) Delmon Young (Round 16) Frank Thomas (Round 17) Nick Markakis (Round 19) Krankor can double check the rounds.
