godthedog 0 Report post Posted January 23, 2008 1. There Will Be Blood 2. No Country for Old Men 3. Michael Clayton 4. Juno that's how i'd do it too. i'd probably feel different about 'juno' if it came out in a thinner year, but there's just too much quality stuff to justify the cunnilingus it's currently getting. bob_barron 0 Report post Posted January 23, 2008 I have them ranked 1) Juno 2) There Will Be Blood 3) Michael Clayton 4) No Country 5) Atonement Atomenent isn't really worth seeing, Kamala. The first hour is really good stuff, but the second hour is pointless and it's just a slow ride until the predictable ending. I enjoyed James McAvoy and the girl who was nominated though. King Kamala 0 Report post Posted January 23, 2008 I'll catch a matinee at the cheap theater then. I have to see all the nominees dammit! Atonement is this year's The Queen. The token British movie that I don't really want to see.
MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted January 23, 2008 I'm surprised no one has mentioned this, but freakin' NORBIT got an Academy Award Nom. There is a chance that it will soon be the Academy Award Winning Norbit. Norbit got nomniated for like, 8 Razzies so the question is has a movie ever won both an Oscar and a Razzie? cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted January 23, 2008 I Know Who Killed Me wouldn't have been THAT bad had she actually, you know, stripped when she was supposed to be a stripper. I'm sick of that bullshit. I had the same problem with Georgia Rule, she was a total skank but never was nude in it. It's like she wants to do edgy roles but refuses to go all the way with it. Kamala, I agree about Atonement. I remember first seeing the trailer before Eastern Promises and thinking "Man, that movie looks really boring and British." Incidentally Eastern Promises probably should have been nominated instead of Atonement. At least Viggo got a nod, cause let's face it if you've seen that movie you know this man will go to great lengths for his craft, haha.

Epic Reine 0 Report post Posted January 23, 2008 Javier Bardem is a lock for best supprting actor, deservingly so. Daniel Day will probably snatch up best actor but I won't count out Johnny Depp getting the upset. I haven't seen "Away From Her" but Julie Christie has snatched up every award for her performance so far so I expect the same here though I would love Ellen Page to win. Blanchet is probably getting best supporting actress because no way in hell is she winning for Elizabeth. Best picture? Hard to say. No Country SHOULD win but TWBB will probably take it. The Cohens better fucking win best director. Easily their best work since "Fargo".

Predictable in the sense that I had a feeling Both Keira and McAvoy would die at the end. The scene where Briony goes to apologize to them and it turns out it was part of her book she wrote later in life was just a sweep swerve.

Atticus Chaos 0 Report post Posted January 23, 2008 Anna Paquin didn't seem that damaged by winning the award at such a young age. There's a severe difference in Ellen Page and Britney Spears. In terms of 'severe difference' if I'd have looked at Britney when she was 20, I'd have said she was was fairly normal, grounded young woman, like Page seems to be now. Heck, a few days ago I'd have said there was a huge difference between Britney now and Heath Ledger, but apparently there wasn't. If Ellen does win, she'll be one of biggest stars in the world and probably have the paparazzi all over her which I don't think anyone needs at that age. Really,I'd just hate her to end up like another one of these actors who got too much too soon and went crazy on drugs. I don't really know enough about her to say she wouldn't end up like that. You are way off base here. There is little, if any, similarities between Page and Spears. Britney Spears was never "grounded." Does anyone remember the Spin article by Chuck Klosterman done shortly after her first album that basically foreshadowed her insanity? Just about everyone connected to her stated how out of touch with reality she was from a very young age due to the idolization from her audience and sheltering from her handlers. There is also a monumental difference between Spears and Page as stars. Spears was a worldwide icon. Every little girl wanted to be her and every guy wanted to fuck her. Page is just a talented actress from a surprisingly successful movie. I can't think of any parallels between the two.

The Ghost of bps21 0 Report post Posted February 24, 2008 I finally saw Michael Clayton last night/early this morning. I really liked it...but unfortunately its the only best picture that I've seen thus far (They should be forced to release the best picture nominees on DVD and pay per view before the ceremony...I hate going to the theater) so I have no rooting interest tonight. King Kamala 0 Report post Posted February 24, 2008 After much delay, I finally saw Atonement. I liked it well enough. It takes a while to get going but the last 45 minutes or so are damn good. I'd rank the nominees 1. There Will Be Blood 2. No Country For Old Men 3. Michael Clayton 4. Atonement 5. Juno

cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted February 24, 2008 I saw Michael Clayton and enjoyed it well enough, but I still have to say this: SEVEN friggin nominations for this? It's a solid *** type movie, but not much different than about 2 dozen other lawyer conspiracy movies. Would anyone give Class Action with Gene Hackman or Primal Fear with Richard Gere 7 nominations? I haven't seen Atonement since it's the one nominee that doesn't really interest me, though I might check out the DVD at some point. Of the 4 I've seen I'd rank them like this: 1. There Will Be Blood 2. No Country For Old Men 3. Juno 4. Michael Clayton
King Kamala 0 Report post Posted February 24, 2008 Michael Clayton is a grower. I don't know what it was (most likely, the annoying 14 year olds walking in and out of the theater I saw it in. Why the fuck were they there in the first place?) but when I first saw it I thought it was a **1/2-*** movie but the more I thought about it, the more I liked it.
