Raw Is Cena - January 28, 2008

Recommended Posts

Preview: Rumble Aftershocks

January 28, 2008

After Sunday night’s Royal Rumble, everything has changed. With the shocking return of John Cena to the ring after four months on the injured list and his victory in the Royal Rumble Match, the world of reigning WWE Champion Randy Orton may have been turned upside down.

When Raw rolls into Philadelphia, you can be certain that Cena will have anything but brotherly love on his mind. The former WWE Champion will kick off Raw tonight. What will he have to say about his Rumble win and future plans?

And will Orton, the man credited with putting Cena out, have anything to say about his return? Orton, who managed to hold on to his WWE Championship Sunday night against Jeff Hardy, hasn't seen the last of the Intercontinental Champion. He and JBL will take on Hardy & Chris Jericho in a tag team match tonight on Raw.

Jericho and JBL will undoubtedly continue their deeply personal feud after their bloody match at the Rumble. Y2J appeared like a man possessed when he and JBL met in the ring on Sunday, glaring at his rival through rivulets of blood trickling down his face. How much more personal can the rivalry between these two get? Is there any step they’re not willing to take?

Meanwhile, the man Cena eliminated for his Rumble victory, Triple H, has a challenge of his own. He and a partner of his choice will take on the monstrous team of Umaga & Snitsky. Who will The Game choose?

And what about Maria and the opportunity Ashley presented to her at Royal Rumble – the honor of possibly posing in Playboy? Maria’s beau, Santino Marella, doesn’t want anyone seeing her “boobies,” but how does the lovely Diva feel about the situation? Will she become the latest WWE Diva to grace the cover of Playboy?

The only way to find out the answers to these questions is to tune in to Raw live at 9/8 CT on USA Network.

I like that main event. I also don't know why HHH would need to choose anyone to fight Snitsky and Umaga, I'm sure he could do it himself. Maybe Big Show has his back... or it's just Michaels or Flair.

I don't want to come off like the typical 'Cena hater' by saying this, but I've got almost zero interest in tonight.

Cena's promo will probably be the Same Old Shit as usual, another barrage of catchphrases and gay jokes from The Rock's old and tired repetoire, which is a frustrating waste of a guy who can cut a killer promo given the chance. Orton and Hardy... why should that issue be continuing? Orton pinned Hardy clean at the PPV. That should traditionally be the set-up for them to move onto something new. And JBL and Jericho's are just starting to get into a 'blood feud', so what sense is there in sticking them in a tag match together? Unless they end up getting DQed or brawling off to the back or something like that it really cools the feud down coming off of the non-finish at the PPV. Why would JBL or Jericho be content to just stand across the ring from each other and be held back by one referee, waiting for a tag, if they hate each other so badly? And HHH versus Umaga is a feud that just refuses to die, with the added bonus of Snitsky, who's one of the few guys who I couldn't think of one single opponent I'd be interesting in seeing him paired up with.

Which just leaves Santino.

Cena was tolerable in his "pissed off out for revenge mode" leading up to the injury. I hope they don't turn him back into "goofy gay joke making" babyface. Interesting how bad the Philly crowd will treat Cena.

Does anybody care about Snitsky in the least? I don't care if he looks 100x grosser in HD. He's channel change material for me.

Raw is so damn tired and lame. Hardy was the only freshness it had going for it, and now he'll be nothing but an afterthought.

They'll no doubt tease which brand Cena will go to to get his title shot even though it's obvious: 'gee, who should I go after? A champion on the C show who has a title that means virtually nothing , Edge, who I finished fueding with ages ago and havn't had any problems with, or, hey! The guy who made my life a misery, assualted my dad, put me on the shelf for 4 months, and was then HANDED my title?'

Although it would be funny to have Cena pretend he's going after the ECW title for a moment or two.

Not only was Orton handed the title, but his reign has almost been as bad as Jericho's was back in the day. He's had one really nice decisive win in his *cough* third reign, and that was Jeff Hardy. At least Jericho could at least claim to have beaten Rock and Austin in one night. Orton beat a tired HHH after losing two hours earlier.

Orton's reign was better than Jericho's every was. Aside from bad booking, Jericho never really performed in ring wise, his only good matches were with the Rock, his bouts with HHH and Austin were average at best. Say what you want about Randy but he's churned out great matches with HHH, HBK, Jericho and Hardy over the last four months.

It amuses me that he got a huge pop when he came out then got booed right after,,"yea Cena!..oh wait.."

Once again the HD feed sucks ass here. USA needs to get their shit together. I am not going to blame Comcast because that is only channel that has these problems.

OK, what'd they bleep out? I thought it was a "You suck dick" chant at first, but now I'm not sure.

Now we get a "Cena sucks" chant. Gotta love Philly fans.

I think the audio's just sucking right now.
