TheOriginalOrangeGoblin Posted March 2, 2008 Report Posted March 2, 2008 Wow that's gotta be a pretty big disappointment for a Will Ferrell comedy...
Hawk 34 Posted March 2, 2008 Report Posted March 2, 2008 It's a good sign that the American film-goers are tired of his routine.
bob_barron Posted March 2, 2008 Report Posted March 2, 2008 I think it was the R-rating that hurt it. It kept a lot of his fanbase out.
Cowboy Battlenuts Posted March 2, 2008 Report Posted March 2, 2008 Pretty shitty weekend overall. He's not doing too bad if he can open at 1 and still be considered disappointing.
King Kamala Posted March 2, 2008 Report Posted March 2, 2008 I think it was a combination of the R rating and the tired schtick. Let's face it, a lot of idiots still really like the dumb sports comedies. I really like Ferrell which is why I'm praying that he won't do another one of those damn sports comedies.
hyperchord24 Posted March 2, 2008 Report Posted March 2, 2008 Looks like The Other Bolyn Girl bombed. And it still made 8 mil. It looked good from the trailers, I thought.
bob_barron Posted March 2, 2008 Report Posted March 2, 2008 The Other Boleyn Girl did quite well actually. A $7,000 PSA is quite impressive for a movie dumped at the end of February.
DrVenkman PhD Posted March 2, 2008 Report Posted March 2, 2008 Did BKR drop off the face of the box office? I was sick last Tuesday and didn't see it and we're probably seeing Semi-Pro (shut up) this Tuesday. We might have to revise that if BKR is leaving soon - is not getting a wide release?
bob_barron Posted March 2, 2008 Report Posted March 2, 2008 Be Kind Rewind finished in 13th place, dropping 48 percent from the previous week
Youth N Asia Posted March 2, 2008 Report Posted March 2, 2008 A little shocked to see The Other Boleyn girl do even that much. Period pieces from that time seem to bomb left and right. By no means a hit, but I think a week string of movies out helped it
Black Lushus Posted March 3, 2008 Report Posted March 3, 2008 I liked Ferell in Old School and about half of Anchorman, that's about it.
C Dubya 04 Posted March 3, 2008 Report Posted March 3, 2008 Looks like The Other Bolyn Girl bombed. And it still made 8 mil. It looked good from the trailers, I thought. I took the wife to see this Friday night. It was surprisingly good to me. Portman was really good in her role.
franchise632 Posted March 3, 2008 Report Posted March 3, 2008 Saw both Semi-Pro and Vantage Point on Saturday. I really enjoyed both movies. My fiance and I had the theater to ourselves for Semi-Pro and it was hilarious stuff. I admit it is the same stuff from Ferrell but it works for me. Woody Harleson was really good and anything with Maura Tierney is good in my book. Vantage Point was a pretty fun ride and was an interesting way to tell the story. The last 30 mins of the film were a pretty good ride and made for a nice finish to the movie day. It was fun to try and piece things together.
Guest frostdude1 Posted March 5, 2008 Report Posted March 5, 2008 Just watched Semi Pro and it was ok. Few laughs here and there but nothing special.
cabbageboy Posted March 5, 2008 Report Posted March 5, 2008 Yeah it was okay. Dare I say it would have been a better Woody Harrelson movie with him starring, with Ferrell as more of a comedy relief side character? Woody's character was much more interesting, kinda like Tom Berenger in Major League. There's a good movie to be made about the dying days of the ABA, but a juvenile Will Ferrell movie isn't really the way to go.
