Goal line blitz

Yeah, if I knew I'd get slotted into the MLB spot, I would've gone ahead and put a point or two into the "defensive general" slot instead of focusing on the pass rusher options.

Alright, so I'm going to start reading thru the PbP and see if I can't come up with a little write up for our team and post it on one of the main boards.

If anyone has any input they'd like to give me (player quote or what not) feel free to IM me at: Broward83

17-3 win over the Caracas Vikings today.

Moves us up to 2nd in the conference.

Edit: I see I got slotted into the MLB spot. Any particular reason why?

I figured the you're the highest level of the LB core and the MLB is usually the defensive captain. I don't know if that really translates in GLB, but that's why you got moved.

By the way, IAN GORDON'S HOUSE OF PANCAKES! SEEEEEEERVED~! 4 pancakes from the beast and a piddly 1 from me. Funny that I'm in the league's top ten for the season with only 2 while iggy dominates with double digit 'cakes.

Offense is still a bit underleveled, but the running game is getting it done for the time being.

Yeah, I have to say I was pretty excited about the 4 pancakes in one game. Whoever controls Vlad Tanker, you're welcome for the 6 ypc. :) While I know Ced's handled most of my bragging for me, I do want to say that the team with the most pancakes in our league is the Belo Horizonte Miners and they have 13 for the season compared to my 10.

I think the key on this game is putting as many of your attribute points as possible into the key skills (blocking and strength for O-linemen), building up the lesser ones with training a little bit, and leaving the special skills pretty much alone until your player develops more.

Oh, and thank god we got the name change done. If I had to see Goiana Vultures on my front page one more time I was gonna puke. Smartmarks FC is sooo much better.

My offensive tackle will hopefully be a beast by next season, except i've spent more of my skill points on the advanced stuff rather than the basic numbers. My next level up will play to the basic numbers.

Here's a rough draft of the news piece, all info is welcome.

Greetings all, this is Cristian Olazabal reporting on Smartmarks FC for the Goiania Free Press.

Taking the field for the first time this season after the official name change to "Smartmarks FC", the former Vultures came into their match-up with the Caracas Vikings on a loss while their opponents were looking to break a debilitating seven game losing streak.

Smartmarks FC would get the ball to start the game and would start with an impressive first drive that ate up well over seven minutes but would end in a heartbreaking missed field goal from kicker Kris Bager.

A short drive by the Vikings would end with a punt but it seemed as if luck were shining on the men from Caracas as the following play, FC's Geru Ortega who was looking for new addition Chriswok Geordie on the right side of the field had his pass picked by Wade Carrier. Upon further replay, it seemed as if Geordie simply couldn't handle the bullet from Ortega and well.. one man's loss is another's gain.

The Viking's fortune would soon fade however as in less than fourty-five seconds they would punt the ball back to FC.

Another stable drive by FC would lead the team to attempt a field goal, but the second verse was the same as the first, giving Caracas decent field position.

A couple of well stringed together passes would allow the Vikings to attempt a run to the left side of the Smartmarks D-line. Up to the task was Kole McConnel, knocking the ball from Grim Anvilhead with a jarring collision. The fates however, were still shining on the Vikings as offensive tackle Colt Blackwell scooped up the loose ball.

After a few more moments of the teams playing the field position game, our boys from Goiania would strike first with a simple run to the left from Gonzalo Sykes to put FC up 7-0.

Caracas would give a valiant effort in the dying moments of the first half but dropped passes and incompletions hindered them from getting anything on the board.

After a close to thirty-four yard return from Ima Ho to open up the third quarter, the anemic Vikings offense would go three and out, taking less than a minute off the clock.

Not one to look a gift horse in the mouth, FC would march down the field and attoning for his past misses, Kris Bager would drive home a twenty-nine and a half yard field goal to drive the lead to ten over Caracas.

Another spectacular return by Ima Ho would go for naught as Vikings QB Sharmall Klauf would float a pass towards Mr. Touchdown, only to find the ball wind up in the hands of Smartmarks rookie, Annie Eclectic.

For much of the third quarter, Smartmarks and Caracas would jostle for field postion once again. With 3:49 in the third quarter, FC would begin a drive from their own fourty-four yard line that would once again end with standout halfback Gonzalo Sykes crossing the goal line as he skirted past Chester Briscoe to put Smartmarks up 17-0.

Ima Ho would give the Vikings another solid return that on the following play, would see Klauf find Hector McPherson down the left side of the field. A missed tackle by Stick Blinker would give McPherson all the daylight he needed as the big man rumbled down field for a fifty-seven yard touchdown, bringing the Vikings within ten.

FC and the Vikings would trade possession of the ball for most of the fourth quarter until the Vikings would get what became their last possession. After finding McPherson for close to eight yards and following that up with an incompletion to Mr. Touchdown, knowing they'd have to gamble a bit, Klauf would once again look to McPherson; only for FC's Tony Carlson to pick off the pass and lock up another victory for Smartmarks FC.

The game's top performers were:

Hector McPherson of Caracas with five catches, ninety-four and a half yards with one touchdown.

Quarterback Sharmall Klauf who finished up the day at 18/44 for one-hundred ninety-six yards. Two picks and a touchdown round out his numbers.

FC's Gonzalo Sykes who had a total of eighty-three yards on the ground via twenty-two rushes and two touchdowns.

Chriswok Geordie pulled down six catches for nearly sixty yards but had no touchdowns.

FC's Vlad Tanker would come in later in the game and pick up an impressive total of ninety-two yards.

The next game for the Goiania boys is a match-up with the Louisiana Gators. The six and five Gators will be trotting out their star WB, Duke Bacon along with a stellar defensive line.

Regarding the LB situation, I'll switch positions if you three think you'd be better to play a particular spot.

As far as I can remember for open starting spots: WR#2, DT (usurpable), FS, and CB#2 are still available. I'll add an extra spot for WR or CB as the PR/KR specialist. People that don't mind playing #2 on the depth chart also should apply. I'm keeping an eye on inactivity and bumping up/down players accordingly.

Well, it looks like it was mainly myself and Red that got switched up so..

Red, if you want to go back to being the MLB and I'll slide out to LOLB, then that's cool. If you want to stay outside and everyone is cool with me playing MLB, then my next level up, I'll sink some points into vision and the Def. General skill.

Edit: Well, if no one has a problem with the write up, I'll throw it up on the South American board.

hell yeah! First interception of a promising career... I think that massive bump to my speed helped. I'll scour through and find a position nobody's going for and make a second char, this is fun! :)

I like the writeup, seems concise and descriptive enough to show the main plays of the game.

EDIT: I'll make a WR too... don't mind if I end up lower on the depth chart with the WR though, as CB's my main spot. Allison Onita ready for work, coach.

THROW ME THE BALL!

I'm OPEN DAMNIT!!!!

:D

So is our team just more run based at the moment? Should I start dropping stats in pass blocking instead of speed and catching?

UT, nah thats okay. I don't mind being on the right or left side at all. If Ced was going to switch positions, I would have changed my tactics accordingly.

Any possible way to do a 3-4 defence?

I think we're stuck on 4-3 until the next season starts up... or until they do another big update.

Hey Red, if you're on AIM.. add me. AIM name is the same as my display name.

Yeah, some are quite a bit high.. but some figure in your leveling up thru the extent they have you signed for and are giving you the money you'll need to train. I know that if I tried to do intense with my LB right now, I'd be going over my daily budget by 600 bucks.

Well, Red and I are brainstorming a defensive plan for our next game.

If anyone who's looked at our opponent has any input on maybe guessing pass over run and what coverage we should switch to.. please.. please speak up.

Our run defence is the best in the league, and we give up the fewest points in the league. Pass defence is one of the best too. We are struggling to pass the ball, but have no problems with the running game.

Yeah, and their QB is pretty solid, but he's 2:1 for TD/INT even though he's got a +50% completion rating. Maybe if we can get some of our secondary to focus more on the pass and those that can, sink some points into the "first step" or ball defender skill tree, we can bolster our defensive numbers thru picks and PD's.

I'm setting Morgan to drop back into coverage and guess more for pass plays.. so.. *shrug*

Well, everyone should probably change their own tactics to wrap-tackle...at this level we aren't going to consistently cause fumbles, and we don't want to give up 71 yard TD passes, like the Gators last opponent:

Duke Bacon pass to Colt Larkin over the middle [missed tackle: Shayne Oliver], PAT made by champ cromartie [TD] (71 yd gain)

Duke Bacon pass to Darius Clarke over the middle [missed tackle: Big Money81], PAT made by champ cromartie [TD] (54.5 yd gain)

We know they like to air it out...maybe play man coverage and play tight on their receivers? Might want to cut the blitzing down to a small percentage, I think our line might be able to get pressure on it's own due to all of the CPU players on their line. Plus we don't want to get burned by their solid QB. If anything, sell out on the pass and make that mediocre run game beat us.

On O...their tackles are both CPU and their MLB has a low level. We might be able to do a power running game on the inside. I think they'll also react to our crazy rushing stats from last game and sell out against the run, so maybe mix up those runs with some deeper patterns? They have a solid CB though, so I'm not sure how that would work. Maybe a high percentage of medium range passes.

Pass Coverage

Man Coverage Distance

Medium: Stay back a couple yards to not get beat.

Those are the tactics I've got for Morgan. I think we've got a good shot at winning this game, honestly.

Our running game is rather frightening so running up the gut with Gordon and Guillermo-Sanchez 'caking against the tackles is in order. Then mid to deep passes to really dick with the Gators may payoff nicely.

I noticed on the team page that the LT spot is CPU controlled....yeah..

My fault for not noticing right away. Unfortunately, your team is human controlled so I'm going to try to give up some players to see if the Cajuns bite.

EDIT: And to pass it along: the positions of offensive guard and a defensive tackle are now open since Dustin Reese and Hambone Parker has been inactive for awhile. They'll be moved to #2 if I don't see any activity soon.

EDIT 2: New contracts being sent out now. Huzzah!

EDIT 3: Whipped up a prototype logo in about 20 minutes using MS Paint and the family crests about 2 pages back. Threw in the football just because.
