This Week in Baseball 3/30 - 4/6

Recommended Posts

The Jays won while wearing their powder blue pajamas. I really like this starting rotation, 1-4, at least. Anything they can get out of Litsch is gravy.

Marcum was nasty tonight, Halladay is great, Burnett is very good if he stays healthy, and McGowan I havent seen enough of yet. That's just another big obstacle in the East making it one of the toughest divisions in MLB...sans the O's that is.

McGowan is underrated. Last year, in the 2nd half of the year he had an era of 3.67, with a whip of 1.14 in 15 starts.

They're exceeding my expectations for this year, that's for sure. Just a fantastic run through a couple of really tough lineups.

I came in expecting to hate the retro unis, but they grew on me. They look better on the players than I expected they would. It's probably that the jerseys are a lot looser than the originals were.

Marvin should take a tip from me. Observe the games quietly when your team is an embarrassment. Talk about them when others might actually care.

I won't be posting much this year.

Does anyone on the board but Marvin give a shit about anything O's-related? For serious question.

Until we can ignore a user in a specific thread or folder, I have him on ignore. The board became 19.1% more enjoyable when I did so.

And it's not even a knock on Marvin, either. It's just who cares about the O's besides him? They aren't just bad, they're a model of how not to run a baseball organization. I have no interest in hearing/reading about them. And from the looks of these threads, no one else does, either. And that's all Marvin posts about in these threads. Which just has me scrolling anytime I see Andy Kaufman's mug.

I rather see more Angel talk than Orioles talk.

Although I agree that every team should be represented. But if you suck, well not even if you suck. If your team is boring, represent less.

What year are we in? It certainly didn't look like 2008 in Toronto tonight.

Still, good game. 1-4 could have easily had wins by now, and one of them does.

I'm a huge O's fan, but I generally talk about them on an O's specific forum...this thread is good for general baseball stuff

plus, i mean, what do I get to say "Oh the O's lost again" "Oh Cabrera walked another batter" That'll just lead me to drink...

Who is this Maggie Grey gal who does recaps on the team websites now instead of showing clips from the game? Something about her voice bugs me. It's like she's reading off the teleprompter with excitement, but the excitement is somehow semantically misplaced. Also, she doesn't modulate her voice very well, so it's just varying degrees of shouting. Where's Keith Hernandez?

If JR Towles does a handstand, that means he’s going to homer in his next at bat.

Micah Owings worked over Colorado today. Only gave up one run in the 7th via a Todd Helton solo HR. Owings actually had 9 K's too. All last year he really wasn't that great of a strikeout pitcher.

Justin Upton went yard for the second day in a row. He's looking a lot more at ease this season then he did last year when the D-Backs called him up in the final month.

Minnesota finally put an end to the "undefeated Kansas City Royals".

Went to Opening Day at Miller Park yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed it.

In reference to Braun's defense, yes, he's still a bit shaky in LF, but I'd say less so than when he was at 3B. He'll get more comfortable as the season wears on. As for Bill Hall, I feel he's more of a natural infielder than an outfielder. If you saw some of the plays he made last year in CF, he never really looked that natural making some catches, even when he was successful. Frankly, if he keeps hitting like he has been, it doesn't matter how he plays defense.

Os are in first place (tied with the Rays), Yankees (and the Cubs..oh no) are in last.

let me enjoy it while it lasts damnit. I told you all they wouldnt be a 100 loss team this year. If the bullpen is as good as its been they might actually be closer to .500. Give me another month of everything playing out like it has this week and I'll be willing to bet the Os finish better than the Cubs because from what Ive seen they're worse than the Orioles right now.

THEY HAVE PLAYED

THREE

GAMES

Okay, here's your bet, Marvin: Cubs finish better than the Orioles and you're banned for good.

I nearly forgot to mention how good Hiroki Kuroda's debut performance was.

7 innings, 3 hits and one run allowed, on 77 pitches. A lesson, if you will.

Excellent bunt by Hopper to move the runners to second and third allows the Reds to get another win in the bottom of the ninth against the Phils. I am liking how they are playing so far, and if they gets their bats going, they could be making a bigger splash than predicted. I don't think second place pushing for first in the Central is out of the question at all.

As a non-Tigers fan living an hour or so away from Detroit, I don't really care to see Dontrelle succeed. But his pure love for the game makes it difficult to watch him struggle so mightily. Thankfully for him, the White Sox can't take advantage of his lack of command.

I'm seconding this. Marvin's homerism will be the hill that he wishes to die on.

Dontrelle Willis with the no hitter through 5 innings. Don't mind the 7 walks.

EDIT: Jim Thome put an end to that.

That leads me to a question...

What is the most number of walks a pitcher has given up during a no hitter?
