cabbageboy Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 If UT's new finisher isn't really getting over yet (at least not until WM perhaps) I think it is due to Cole and Coach not being able to commentate worth a crap. They don't know what the move is, other than "that deadly submission!" and don't properly convey it as a finisher.
USC Wuz Robbed! Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 I really liked the way it was used at Mania. I can't see him using it as a regular finisher, but as a one-off ace-up-the-sleeve type move it'd be great. That said, something bugs me about how they're giving everybody submission finishers now. Some people just weren't meant to have them. Especially Cena since he always does the STF-U poorly. It's not because he does it poorly that Cena shouldn't have a submission finisher. It's because he's a pure brawler. It's akin to giving Austin circa 1998/2001 a submission finisher (the circa 1998/2001 part is to counteract the inevitable "He did the Million Dollar Dream!" which actually didn't fit him as well).

Well, that too.
Turbo Lion Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 Theoretically, yeah. But theoretically, any variant on the stunner/diamond cutter'ish realm of moves should break someone's neck. So...
Lil' Bitch Posted April 3, 2008 Report Posted April 3, 2008 I always thought Undertaker's new finisher was just the Triangle Chokehold? Its better than him using the Dragon Sleeper. I don't mind him using the TCH, but it should be a last resort finisher if the Chokeslam or the Last Ride doesn't work or if his opponent is too heavy for him to Tombstone them. on the flip side, they gave Jericho an impact finisher! Codebreaker. I love it. I was really happy he has an impact finisher now. And if they're gearing up for a feud with Punk of some kind, it's a nice foil to the GTS. Its a lot better than that other finisher he had been using in late 2001. That full nelson face slam or whatever it was.

Both very weak.
Dandy Posted April 3, 2008 Report Posted April 3, 2008 No, this is not the same triangle choke he has used occasioanly since 2003 or so. This has his shin across the guys throat and pulling the back of their head against it.
Maztinho Posted April 3, 2008 Report Posted April 3, 2008 It's a Gogoplata. A link to a Gogoplata. It's nothing like a Triangle Choke.
DangerousDamon Posted April 3, 2008 Report Posted April 3, 2008 Shawn's got the new leglock for one. Oh yeah that, figure four cloverleaf thingy he does. I'm an idiot.
LaParkaYourCar Posted April 3, 2008 Report Posted April 3, 2008 Am I the only one that thinks this move looks like crap? First time I saw it I thought Taker was stuffing someone's head in his crotch. Even if it is a legit move in MMA it still isn't an aesthetically good looking move. In wrestling it should look good as well as looking effective.
Dandy Posted April 3, 2008 Report Posted April 3, 2008 In MMA, it has many variations, and you would most likely rarely see the kind that Taker is using. A gogoplata is typically using your own leg to choke out your opponent, often by grabbing your own leg in the process.

You imagine if Santino had wanted to do this move on TV? He'd have been ran out of the building, or been placed on trial at the Wrestlers Court.
Guest (Loggins Name) Posted April 4, 2008 Report Posted April 4, 2008 He's getting pinned and looking faggy. That's the worst move I've ever seen.

A gogoplata is a pretty rare BJJ hold that utilizes choking out your opponent with your shinbone - pretty much exactly the way UT does it. It's very rare. Here's one in action... you probably want to watch the whole fight because it's one of the best fights of the past few years. You'll see a beautiful gogoplata as the finish to this match. http://www.mmascraps.com/2007/07/takanori-...-nick-diaz.html
The Niggardly King Posted April 4, 2008 Report Posted April 4, 2008 Disregard that last post, as that never happened.
Dandy Posted April 4, 2008 Report Posted April 4, 2008 Thanks for the correction, Mik. I new it was the shin part of the leg, but I did not say that at all. However, most of the gogos I have seen were not in the same position that Taker and his opponents were in.
Guest Camo Bag Posted April 4, 2008 Report Posted April 4, 2008 MMA. They better come up with something better than the "Taker Care of Business." Taker Care of Business is his Dragon Sleeper, isn't it? They usually refer to the Gogoplata as "that submission hold!" or the triangle choke. The Taker Care of Business is his Dragon Sleeper. Taker's my favorite wrestler of all time, but that's a weird name for his submission hold.
