This Week in Baseball, 4/21-4/27

I recall Steve Stone speaking highly of him a couple years ago. Like Czech said, he was one of the many "next big relievers" the Cubs had. They've developed some great arms in the pen, but they've also had more busts in that department than I care to recall. Remember when Todd Wellemeyer was pegged to be their closer of the future?

It's nice that the Jays are getting their season killing losing streak out of the way even earlier this season. Nothing's going right for them, Gritty David Eckstein drops an easy double play ball that would have gotten them out of the inning after they FINALLY get the lead and the Royals have scored 6 runs (and counting) without there being another out. Completely wasted a great Burnett start, too.

gibbons should be fired. i know burnett was at 100 pitches, but he shouldn't have even started that inning. they have a bullpen for a reason. anyone in that pen could have shut down the royals. instead they inherited all of these runs from burnett just running out of gas. the eckstein error should never have even happened. irresponsible managing that has plagued the jays for a couple of years now. its time to hire a real manager. maybe even a new g.m. who doesn't stock up on players with flashy numbers but little substance to sustain themselves over the course of 162. the frank thomas incident is the most regrettable of all.

Umpire Kerwin Danley was injured, perhaps badly, at the Rockies/Dodgers game. He was struck by a pitched ball from Brad Penny, and taken off the field on his back in an ambulance.

The Red Sox should follow suit and eat the rest of Lugo's contract too.

Lugo's not a terrible player, he'd make a suitable utility infielder. Morris has been unspeakably awful. His 9.67 ERA in 22.3 IP doesn't even take into account his seven unearned runs allowed.

I wasnt saying Lugo was as bad, just saying that I vehemently hate Lugo and don't want to watch him on a daily basis anymore.
