Nighthawk Posted April 22, 2008 Report Posted April 22, 2008 It sucked for me. It's an opinionated statement. Hardly factual. edit: I should also mention I got in the doghouse with my wife, because she watched it with me, and she hated that she had to see that ending. You and your wife sound like incredibly touchy and sensitive people. It was just a movie.
Ripper Posted April 22, 2008 Report Posted April 22, 2008 Oh come one, it is a understandable movie to get touchy about.
Jaxxson Mayhem Posted April 22, 2008 Report Posted April 22, 2008 I have to say, I enjoyed Mrs. Carmody getting shot a LOT. Me too. Like..... way too much. Even though I'd rather see her get hit with an ax
EricMM Posted April 22, 2008 Report Posted April 22, 2008 I dunno why they did that with the ending though. Thats not what happened in the book AT ALL.
Ripper Posted April 22, 2008 Report Posted April 22, 2008 Bah, even King said he liked it better. The book ending was a non ending and well...fuck that. I liked this ending in general, just the things I said earlier was just too much trying for IRONY~!
dubq Posted April 22, 2008 Report Posted April 22, 2008 When it comes to children, yeah. Your wife probably shouldn't watch horror movies then, y'know.
Black Lushus Posted April 22, 2008 Report Posted April 22, 2008 When it comes to children, yeah. Your wife probably shouldn't watch horror movies then, y'know. little kids, not teens...no one gives a fuck if a teen gets wacked, we all hate teens!
USC Wuz Robbed! Posted April 22, 2008 Report Posted April 22, 2008 Well I should clarify, since I was probably vague as hell about it (to avoid spoiler tagging), but since I'll have to- What bothered my wife (and me to an extent) was that The four people were in the car, and the adults come to an agreement on how it should end. The kid, however, is sleeping on the woman's lap while it happens. He wakes up just in time to see the father off him. It was just brutal to watch. The movie was not the greatest movie in the world by any means, but it had a certain momentum, and in my opinion, it was completely halted by that ending. I know that the perfect world ending doesn't often happen in reality, but I don't think any parent on Earth would ever want/agree to do what David Drayton did. I know I certainly wouldn't.

I agree with WANT, but AGREE? Are you kidding me? So instead of his child getting a clean death with a shot in the head, he would rather risk him A: Having chunks ripped from him by the tenacle monster until he dies a horrible death. B: Be stung by the big ass mosquitos that would make his head swell until he dies a horrible death. C: Be cut in half by the acid spider web where he would bleed and feel horrible pain until he dies. D: Become the home for spider eggs until they come to term and eat their way out of him until he dies. E: Be chopped in half by a huge...mantis like thingy. F: Get ripped open by the Sauron looking things Dude...with the options presented before him, I would find it hard to belive that a parent, in that particular situation would do anything different. Of course, they wouldn't want to, but best option to protect your child...that was it.
USC Wuz Robbed! Posted April 22, 2008 Report Posted April 22, 2008 Or, they could wait it out. See what happens.
Black Lushus Posted April 22, 2008 Report Posted April 22, 2008 I guess I would say wait until the last possible minute...like "shit here they come!" BAM!
USC Wuz Robbed! Posted April 22, 2008 Report Posted April 22, 2008 That'd be preferrable. David didn't even give them a CHANCE. Well the adults agreed to it, so I don't care about them, but the kid? No.
Ripper Posted April 22, 2008 Report Posted April 22, 2008 Wait what out? If you watch it again... when the car stops you hear all types of beast around them growling. Then they here the big sound which I think is later reveled to be the tanks and their airhorn, getting closer to them. I mean, a group got completely fucked up simply walking to the car. A few hundred feet. He was supposed to risk it later that his son get brutally killed? They were out of gas, in the middle of mist with the sound of monsters coming towards them. I really don't see where the chance for optimisim rises there.
USC Wuz Robbed! Posted April 22, 2008 Report Posted April 22, 2008 Like Lushus says, wait it out until it's ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY.
Nighthawk Posted April 23, 2008 Report Posted April 23, 2008 What other movies have killed little kids? And not, like, serious movies like City of God... Sleepy Hollow... Planet Terror... this one... It is sort of rare.
Nighthawk Posted April 23, 2008 Report Posted April 23, 2008 Aw man, I didn't even see it! I missed dead children?
Ravenbomb Posted April 23, 2008 Report Posted April 23, 2008 It's almost entirely off screen, but Anekin (sp?) kills all the Jedi kids.
Brocklock Posted April 23, 2008 Report Posted April 23, 2008 What other movies have killed little kids? And not, like, serious movies like City of God... Sleepy Hollow... Planet Terror... this one... It is sort of rare. Spoilers just in case someone gets mad the infamous Troma film, Beware! Children At Play features a near ten minute sequence where deranged children get killed by the surviving adults.
Jingus Posted April 23, 2008 Report Posted April 23, 2008 Yeah, AVP:R is definitely worth mentioning, they kill off a kid in like the first five minutes. But other horror flicks? Not many I can think of. Slither, Mimic, Darabont's aforementioned Blob remake. Several zombie movies where they had kid zombies, but I don't know if that technically counts.
Ravenbomb Posted April 23, 2008 Report Posted April 23, 2008 Serenity, Once Upon a Time in the West, Eraserhead, Pan's Labyrinth, 28 Days Later.
Jingus Posted April 23, 2008 Report Posted April 23, 2008 Dude, don't just start naming every movie EVER where a kid died, cuz then you eventually have to include everything from My Girl to Titanic and the pain would never stop. How'sabout limiting it to actually seeing a child die, on-screen, in a horror film?
Nighthawk Posted April 23, 2008 Report Posted April 23, 2008 Yes, I said not serious movies like City of God. Jingus' criteria are good.
Ripper Posted April 23, 2008 Report Posted April 23, 2008 Like Lushus says, wait it out until it's ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY. Don't you think, in a situation of absolute necessary there is a chance you might...you know...miss?
Jingus Posted April 23, 2008 Report Posted April 23, 2008 Oh yeah, I can't believe I forgot the absolute greatest child-killing ever. It's not a horror flick in the strictest sense, but close enough: the original Assault on Precinct 13. Back in college, I found out who my real friends were by showing them that movie, and then seeing who laughed their asses off at that particular scene.
Ravenbomb Posted April 23, 2008 Report Posted April 23, 2008 Ok, then forget all those movies I listed except 28 Days Later. The kid in the diner getting blugeoned to death with a bat was great.
Jaxxson Mayhem Posted April 23, 2008 Report Posted April 23, 2008 Although they didn't show it on screen, it was easily one of the most fucked up parts of a movie I have ever seen... Running Scared. That fucked up house where they made the porn then killed the kids. Shit was fucked up.
