Yeah, looks like a good spread of national games this week.

Brewers looked pathetic this past weekend against the Marlins. Hopefully they turn it around and at least make the series against the Cubs interesting this week. Ben Sheets is supposed to pitch Tuesday, and Mike Cameron will be returning that day as well.

Steroid abuser, statutory rapist/long-time cheater, and a pathological liar. At least he didn't gamble! Yeah, he probably did.

Now not to defend Roger Clemens, but shouldn't this require more evidence than the say-so of a guy sued in a defamation lawsuit?

Technically I agree with you, but if the umps call the game early, then Hawk and Deej will bitch that the umpires are out to get the White Sox, dadgum it, and Comcast SportsNet will assemble a video montage that proves this, and we don't need that. I'd prefer the Orioles win it in nine.

After hearing his fanciful reasons for needle-usage, I have no reason to believe anything that Clemens says or denies. It's hard to give repeat liars the benefit of the doubt. He used to be one of my favorite players but I guess I just don't know how to pick 'em. Hopefully Prince Fielder doesn't end up raping a dog on a PCP bender.

Os got Jenks to blow another save, then in the bottom of the 10th the Sox tried a squeeze with the runner at 3rd and 1 out but the batter foul tipped it which Ramon caught and then tagged out Quentin trying to get back to 3rd. Then Ramon Hernandez hits a HR to lead off the 11th to give them the 3-2 lead. All of this in some of the most miserable weather Ive seen a baseball game played in since that scene in the Fan (its not raining that hard, but it has been raining there all day) and its cold and the field is just one sloppy muddy mess. Sherrill blows the save in the bottom of the inning giving up a hr to Uribe.

and now rain delay before the 12th..

Something has changed with blackout rules, as recently ESPN has begun airing Yankees and Mets matchups that were previously blacked out. This is a great development as Dan Shulman is one of the best announcers in baseball and Michael Kay is, well, not.

Orel Hershiser made a joke that Casey Blake had a chance to tie a record for assists in an inning. I have no way of checking, but that may not be true. It is fully possible to record an assist without an out. If a first baseman commits an error by missing a throw for example, the fielder who made the throw would still get an assist. It is fully possible that some third baseman has collected four assists in an inning.

Here's a pet peeve. The Mets/Pirates game in Shea was rained out. Rather than make it up the next two days the Bucs are in town, the Pirates must return on August 11th on what would have been an off day for both clubs. Honestly, are you really going to pull in that big a gate against a last place team on a Monday? Just play the damn doubleheader.

With the game suspended, they will almost certainly need to pick it up in Baltimore, as the O's don't come to Chicago again the rest of the season. That should be a fun quasi-doubleheader.

Frank Thomas hit his first triple since 2002 and only his 2nd since 1998 tonight. I missed it live so I'll have to wait for the highlight but I'm guessing it had to be a horribly misplayed ball for this to happen or maybe all three Angel outfielders ran into each other.

How do you handle a suspended game that isn't resumed for weeks, namely, roster changes?

Basically you can use any new player in the game, you only can not use a player already substituted for. If a player in the game is off your team, you simply use a substitute in his place.

The MLB rulebook is pretty clear in the rule that if possible, this game should be made up prior to the next White Sox/O's game in Camden Yards.

So let's say the Sox option Wasserman and call up Masset. Wasserman has been used. Does this mean that Masset is now eligible to come in the game? Isn't this an unfair advantage? You could have more than 25 players in a game, hypothetically.

Yes.

I can't cut and paste text, but check the top of page 42 and the previous page. They cover that situation specifically. Teams could abuse the rules or take advantage, but it probably is not worth the effort.

"Well, lemme tell you something, Deej, with the effort that these umps put in to screw us over in that game, we might as well! Paulie could've won that game if they'd let 'em play, dadgum it."

They talked about this on Mike & the Mad Dog yesterday. They didn't want to add a night game on Wednesday because Pittsburgh plays Wednesday and the Mets are flying to the west coast on Friday.

Your general point still is quite valid, but just thought I would throw that info out there.

We're 15% of the way through the season, so it must be time to vote for all-stars!

Which is August 25. By then rosters should be expanded so they should probably have more players to keep the game going longer if need be. The Os only had 1 Eider Torres on the bench and like 2 pitchers in the bullpen that could pitch. I just wonder what would have happened if the Os and White Sox didnt play each other again..surely they wouldnt take an off day and have the Os come into Chicago to play 1 inning?

The Os had a game with the Yankees suspeneded up in NY last year that had to be finished in Baltimore last year.

Roster expansion is September 1, that's hardly an obscure fact.

If there was no scheduled game, the game would need to be replayed in its entirety, unless it were not necessary to determine a playoff entrant.
