The problem is that refs keep calling obvious flops and rewarding it. If it is a post game flop fine, then good, but for the in game, its on the refs.

i mean Stuckly slightly touching Ray Allen on a inbounds play and Ray acting like he was shot and the ref calling a foul...that was ridiculous.

Also, I really need to know what Rasheed Wallace says to refs.

I mean, you watch Garnett call them every name in the book, PJ brown clearly said "If you would make a fucking call I would". Ray Allen was yelling with that "slapping the back of my hand in my palm like a parent" thing right in the refs face, Kedrick Perkins bitches about EVERY call despite them clearly being fouls, but Rasheed always manages to get a T in like 3 seconds.

What is his magic words?

Anyone who has watched the NBA for a while knows that getting T'ed up isn't about what gets said, it's about who says it. 'Sheed is the new Dennis Rodman. Back in his day Jordan had the filthiest mouth and most demonstrative reactions and hardly ever got called for a technical. These days Kobe, Nash, LeBron and guys of that stature can pretty much call the ref's mother a cunt and keep on walking but if 'Sheed slaps his hands together or takes his headband off he's going to get a technical called.

I don't know though. Its pretty random sometimes. LIke the other night Fisher got a T for swinging in the air despite Kobe getting in refs faces and we all know the Spurs bitch about everything. There is really no rhyme or reason to the getting T's in the NBA and its messed up because Sheed is that close to getting suspended when he shouldn't have gotten half of the T's.

Remember that time Jason Williams got a technical despite saying nothing at all? Unless he is a ventriloquist, which is what the commentators speculated.

Posted

Rasheed has gotten alot of "He was looking at me all angry" techs.

I remember he got kicked out of a playoff game against the lakers for looking at the ref.

"All that bull(bleep)-ass calls they had out there. With Mike [Callahan] and Kenny [Mauer] -- you've all seen that (bleep)," Wallace said. "You saw them calls. The cats are flopping all over the floor and they're calling that (bleep). That (bleep) ain't basketball out there. It's all (bleeping) entertainment. You all should know that (bleep). It's all (bleeping) entertainment."

the bloods in the water. I just don't think the Spurs have as much of a killer instinct. The best player on the court happens to have it and he knows that he is 2 and a half minutes from the finals.

kenny smiths gone fishin picture should definitely just have ginobili holding a dead fish to signify his relative disappearance during this series...pathetic...

I am not sure how you can call a injured guys performance pathetic. He played his heart out. he had a bad series, but he left it on the court.

I would say Sasha's three at the end was classless, but we're talking about the Spurs here. The Lakers should never pull punches against them.

Kobe is just, wow. Jordan levels of killer instinct there. Bring on whoever.

Man, I really don't know if the East team will stop the Lakers.

It's really annoying me on talk radio around here though. I don't mind Lakers fans. Guys like 909 that agonized over the past few years when Kobe Bryant was the only decent player on the team are cool. They stuck with their team through thick and thin.

What irritates me are the bandwagon fans that are coming out of the woodwork that we haven't heard from in years.

I don't know how many times I've heard "Well I'm a big Laker fan, always have been" on the radio over the last few weeks. I never heard these people when the Lakers missed the playoffs or when they were losing to the Suns!

A lot of people call in with funny names and handles to the radio show and the hosts comment they haven't heard some of these people since the Shaq/Kobe days.

Damn, if you're going to be a fan then stick with the team through thick and thin. I respect you 909 for suffering through it in hopes something better would come along. Not following another team or not watching altogether and then picking it up when they get good again.

Oh, fuck you, Vujacic.

Bookie called at halftime maybe?

He does seem a little cocky. After he sank those free throws he held his hand in the air and walked back to the bench like he'd just scored his 50th point to ice the game and go down in history.

It's like yeah, the Lakers young guys are good and all. But, sometimes they act a little bit too high. They should just count their blessings they're playing with Kobe, Gasol, Odom and Fisher.

My dad raised me a Laker fan, dressing me up in Laker shirts when I was a toddler and all that. I could never drop this team, no way.

There are so many bandwagon fans...it's pretty annoying, but I'd rather not get into it with those guys when I run into them.

You know, the Spurs to me are going to go down as a fairly ho hum team to win so many titles. I mean the Lakers beat them handily in 5 games here, and when Shaq was there they used to bury the Spurs every year (aside from 2003, which was kind of an injury plagued year for the Lakers). In fact 2003 is really the only time they beat a Phil Jackson coached team, since I think Rambis was coaching the Lakers in the shortened 1999 season.

I disagree as the Spurs as ho-hum. Were the Bulls ho-hum since they lost to Orlando in '95. I just think this Lakers team was too deep to go along with having the best player on the floor.

BTW, this may need to go into the ESPN hatred thread, but I strongly dislike Wilbon for being spineless. The Spurs weren't done after blowing the 20 point lead in Game 1, but were after going down 3-1? Really, I think if you asked 100 people, at least 85 thought they were done after Game 1. Besides Cleveland last year, it doesn't seem like many road teams win series if they don't win Game 1 or 2.

I don't know. San Antonio won their previous series without winning on the road until Game 7. Utah did the same thing against Houston last year. I do think Game 1 is the easiest game to take if you're the lower seeded team, though, because you can catch the higher-ranked team off guard. We've seen it happen twice now where big Game 1 leads are blown and serve as total morale killers for the rest of series (SA/LA and PHX/SA).

From Sports Illustrated

Barry, however, had the greatest response when he found out the NBA said he got fouled 24 hours after the game was over. "That's awesome," he said, "Because Doc Brown is waiting for me outside, and we're going to get in the DeLorean and fire up the flux capacitor and we're going to go back and shoot a couple of free throws."

LMAO... Yes it is.

And I know King wasn't directing his statement about bandwagon fans at me or anyone else, but I support the lakers and don't consider myself a bandwagon fan, for future reference.

The Bulls will always be my favorite, hands down, but the Lakers are my #2/Western conference faves. I live in the area now, but I followed the team ever since Magic made his comeback in the Nick van Exel/Robert Horry era.

Question about flops: Could they do something comparable to what they're supposed to do in hockey (but don't do as often as they should) and call a foul for the flop but NOT the foul on the slight contact that caused the flopper to dive? Basically: Stuckey nudges Allen, Allen goes sprawling like it was a flagrant foul, and the only foul called is the one on Allen for unsportsmanlike conduct (or whatever they want to call it). That, I think, would decrease the dives in a quick way ... or at least make the divers more subtle about when & where they're diving.

And while I don't have the numbers in front of me - and am too lazy to google them out - I think Perkins finished in the top handful of players in technicals against this season. He hasn't gotten many in the postseason, but he was certainly called out on his looks/words a ton of times in the regluar season.

I guess it's just a matter of time before it's Celtics-Lakers. We'll see if this really is a ratings bonaza or if it is just hype.
