Alright, my turn:

Lambert.jpg

JACK LAMBERT

Career accolades:

9x Pro Bowl selection (1975, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1979, 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983)

9x All-Pro selection (1975, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1979, 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983)

4x Super Bowl champion (IX, X, XIII, XIV)

NFL 75th Anniversary All-Time Team

NFL 1980s All-Decade Team

NFL 1970s All-Decade Team

1974 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year

1976 NFL Defensive Player of the Year

Pro Football Hall of Fame

Not only is Lambert arguably the best linebacker ever, he's probably the meanest motherfucker to ever play the game. His rage is the stuff of football lore, fighting opponents on their sideline, biting at the bottom of piles (despite missing four front teeth), gouging eyes, and striking fear into the hearts of opponents. He was sharp, too, and played a tremendous leadership role in the fabled Steel Curtain defense. I'd rather have him on my team than have to deal with him. More animal than man.

I have to leave soon. Who should I PM my pick (and backup pick) to?

EDIT: PM sent to Canadian Chris.

nogoodnic sent me his pick...

fb_AAHV066_8x10~Emmitt-Smith-Posters.jpg

Emmitt Smith RB

8 Time Pro Bowler

6 Time All Pro

NFL's All-Time Leading Rusher

1993 NFL MVP

Super Bowl MVP

A great north-south runner who can step up to pass-block when he needs to, Moose Johnston once said that Emmitt was a better pass-blocker than he was. He was durable, piled up yards and racked up more 100 yard games than anyone else ever. In addition, he's a classy guy in even the most outlandish locker rooms.

Will nogoodnic select offensive linemen in the next several rounds?

Well, I should think we will all be picking o-linemen in the next several rounds. The idea that Emmitt wasn't a top five running back just because he had a good o-line is brainfuckling.

With the 17th pick in the 1st round, the newly named Gotham Harlequins select...

QB Steve Young

steve.jpg

7 Pro Bowls

3 All-Pro Selections

2 SB Rings

1 SB MVP (in which he threw 6 TD)

- Career 64.3% Completion Rate

- Ran for 4,239 yards

- Had a 5.90 YPC and 43 TD

- Had a 2.17 TD:INT Ratio (232-107)

Not only could he scramble but he was deadly accurate and was the #2 QB on my board behind Joe Montana. Not only did he start in the USFL but sat behind Joe Montana for years and had his career shut short due to concussions (this the year after arguably his best year statistically). His numbers could be even gaudier if he had stayed healthy and played through the '99 and even 2000 seasons.

He'd be a perfect fit for my "ideal" Run & Shoot offense. Cerebral, can scramble, and accurate.

Yep, very glad to have Elway as my QB. Some of his accomplishments include:

9x Pro Bowl selection (1986, 1987, 1989, 1991, 1993, 1994, 1996, 1997, 1998)

5x All-Pro selection (1986, 1987, 1993, 1996, 1997)

NFL 1990s All-Decade Team

1987 NFL MVP

1993 UPI AFL-AFC Offensive Player of the Year

1987 UPI AFL-AFC Offensive Player of the Year

Super Bowl XXXIII MVP

Started in 5 Super Bowls (won 2)

2nd in career wins, 3rd in career passing yards, attempts, and completions, and 5th in career TD passes

1st in career game winning or game tying scores in the 4th quarter (47)

I think Elway could've easily gone in the top 8-10, so to get him at #16 is great for me. Some of his numbers might not wow you (namely, completion percentage and QB rating), but when it came down to making a big-time play, Elway got the job done. IMO he's the 2nd best QB of all-time behind Montana. He was very adept at making 4th quarter comebacks like Montana as well. Elway was also a very good rusher, especially when you stack him up against most of the other QB's of his caliber.

With Steve Young and John Elway taken, it's time to build that defense..

Johnny-Unitas-Photograph-C10108046.jpeg

Johnny Unitas, QB

- Selected to 10 pro bowls

- 9x all pro

- First quarterback to throw for over 40,000 yards

- Holds a record 47 game touchdown streak

- 3x AP NFL MVP (1959, 1964, 1967)

- 3x UPI NFL MVP (1959, 1964, 1967)

- 2x NEA NFL MVP (1957, 1967)

- 3x Pro Bowl MVP (1959, 1960, 1963)

- 3x Bert Bell Award (1959, 1964, 1967)

- 1970 Walter Payton Man of the Year

- The greatest QB of all-time, before the 1980's atleast. Was an offensive force in an era where offense was in short demand and is someone that any offense could easily be built around, whether run or pass oriented. Also one of the toughest guys to ever lace up the cleats.

1969greene.jpg

'Mean' Joe Greene, DT

- 10x Pro Bowl selection (1969, 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1974, 1975, 1976, 1978, 1979)

- 11x All-Pro selection (1969, 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1974, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1979)

- NFL 75th Anniversary All-Time Team

- NFL 1970s All-Decade Team

- 1969 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year

- 2x NFL Defensive Player of the Year (1972, 1974)

- 2x George S. Halas Trophy (1972, 1974)

- 4x Super Bowl winner

One of the most feared and dominant defensive players of all-time. He would often draw double and triple coverage and was still able to dominated offenses and change games all by himself. Plus his leadership is unquestionably top notch since he was the captain of the best defense of all-time.

I'm amazed Unitas made it that far.

I almost took Butkus, too, but he only played on two winning teams! That's the part of his legend that gets swept under the rug. Considering he and Lambert were equally bloodthirsty, I took the guy with 4 superbowl wins.

LT - Anthony Munoz

Anthony-Munoz-Photograph-C12960741.jpeg

I gotta run out the door right now, but I'll just say he's the best offensive lineman of all time.

11 Pro-Bowls

10 All-Pro selections

More later.

I want to draft a beast of a running back, so you can't get any more beast than:

sp_backs06.jpg

Eric Dickerson

6x Pro Bowl selection (1983, 1984, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989)

5x All-Pro selection (1983, 1984, 1986, 1987, 1988)

NFL 1980s All-Decade Team

1983 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year

1983 UPI NFL-NFC Rookie of the Year

1986 NFL Offensive Player of the Year

3x UPI NFC Player of the Year (1983, 1984, 1986)

NFL Record 2,105 Rushing Yards in a Single Season

St. Louis Rams #29 retired

Over 13,000 Yards, and 96 TDs.

Ray Nitschke would also fit that bill along with several championships.

Careful, now snuffy, I don't want anyone to start ransacking my team..

(Also, Willie Davis was a mean defender in his time as well, but he was no Nitschke)

One of my favorite players of all-time...

RCB Deion Sanders

dsandersx.jpg

The Stats...

- Defensive Player of the Year in 1994

- 8 Pro Bowl Selections

- 2 Super Bowl Rings

- 1990's All Decade Team

- 53 INT (9 TD)

- Career 25.11 Yard Per INT Return

He isn't a tackling machine but that wasn't his forte anyway. He epitomized the term, "Shutdown Corner" and at his height was almost cutting off a whole side of the field while being matched up against the best wide receivers of the era including Jerry Rice.

Munoz was actually my backup pick if I didn't get Elway, but I was probably asking too much to hope for both. This is pretty tough cuz there's a boatload of excellent players I could take here, but I've got my QB in Elway and now I'm gonna pick this guy to "quarterback" my defense.

singletarypf-1.jpg

Mike Singletary

10x Pro Bowl selection (1983, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992)

9x All-Pro selection (1983-1991)

Super Bowl champion (XX)

NFL 1980s All-Decade Team

2x AP NFL Defensive Player of the Year (1988, 1985)

3x UPI NFC Player of the Year (1988, 1985, 1984)

An intense and aggressive player, as well as a very intelligent one, I'm very confident having Singletary run my defense.
