Guest Brian Report post Posted June 5, 2005 To the people who have seen it, I assume with all of the praise I have seen flying around for Bushido 7, it is worth ordering tomorrow for the $20? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> From what I've read, and for the price, it sounds worth it. The only two PRIDE Fights that really look good to me are the Overeem and the Nogueira fights. I have a bad feeling about Arona/Sakuraba, like it's going to be very one-sided either way, and that Silva's either going to lay in a beating or it's just going to end up like his first fight (where the ref takes what seems like much longer to stand up the two fighters since one of them is Japanese). Guest Brian Report post Posted June 5, 2005 Randy Couture is going to be on "Head to Head with James Brown" tomorrow at 9 pm on FSN, as well as a feature on UFC from what the previews said.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted June 5, 2005 Bushido was good. Takanori Gomi (Japan) vs. Luiz Azeredo (Brazil) Phil Baroni (USA) vs. Ikuhisa “The Punk” Minowa (Japan) Ryo Chonan (Japan) vs. Nino "Elvis" Schembri (Brazil) Tatsuya Kawajiri (Japan) vs. Kim In Seok (Korea) Akihiro Gono (Japan) vs. Crosley Gracie (Brazil) Hayato “Mach” Sakurai (Japan) vs. Milton Vieira (Brazil) Omigawa Michihiro (Japan) vs. Aaron Riley (USA) Dokonjyonosuke Mishima (Japan) vs. Yves Edwards (USA) Taisho (Japan) vs. Jens Pulver (USA) Yoshiro Maeda (Japan) vs. Charles "Krazy Horse" Bennett (USA) The ones in bold were "good" or better. I actually enjoyed Sakurais fight, and thought it was underrated by those claiming "boring". There was some really good shit on this card, that's all I'll say. RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted June 5, 2005 PRIDE: Critical Countdown 2005 is on July 1st, which is a Friday (week long delay?)
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted June 5, 2005 Wanderlei Silva (Brazil) vs. Kazuhiro Nakamura (Japan) - As a Nak fan, I was hoping it would out this way. Silva had problems with Yoshida - and if you believe he wasn't paid to make it look competitive, which I do - then Nakamura (who is 10x's better than Yoshida) should do pretty well. His stand-up is good enough to catch Silva on a rush, and his throws and GNP are very good which means Silva may be hesitant to be The Axe Murderer against him. The Nak dominated Murilo Bustamante, he beat Randleman and showed good skills in that fight, the man deserves some respect. This, next to Shoguns fight, is the one I'm looking forward to the most. Kazushi Sakuraba (Japan) vs. Ricardo Arona (Brazil) - Whenever Sakuraba goes against a BJJ guy, it's a fun match. He should have fun against Arona. Two things could happen in this fight - 1. Arona steps it up and kicks the shit out of Sakuraba, which he can do. OR 2. Arona takes a step back and play the grappling game with Sakuraba, which he will do. Both ways are fun ways. Mauricio “Shogun” Rua (Brazil) vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (Brazil) - To me, this is the match which decides the entire tournament. If one guy beats the other, then it proves he can take any other guy in this tournament. Both guys are capable on their feet and on the ground, with Shogun being better standing and Noguiera being a Noguiera. Shogun is crazy, and Nog ain't. Chute Boxe vs. BTT. Fuck yeah. Igor Vovchanchyn (Ukraine) vs. Alistair Overeem (Holland) - Overeem can avenge his brothers loss. Igor looked GREAT against Kondo, but he won't be able to overpower Alistair in this on the ground, which means Staaaand Uuuup! These two guys standing is going to be awesome. Of course, me saying that means there will be a submission ending the fight. Additional Matches (Non-Tournament): Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (Brazil) vs. Pawel Nastula (Poland) - Noguiera is the Benoit of MMA, the guy just performs well against everyone. Sergei Kharitonov (Russia) vs. Pedro Rizzo (Brazil) - Everytime Rizzo fights, it's a chance to see greatness. He usually doesn't reach it, but against Kharitonov -who will push him- I think we may see the best Rizzo possible.
AboveAverage484 0 Report post Posted June 5, 2005 I'm thinking there is going to be at least two other matches added, possibly Cro Cop vs. that Russian guy (name escapes me) and a reserve fight or something.
the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted June 6, 2005 I can't believe anyone would think Sakurai's fight was boring. At worst it was decent, but I thought it was pretty good. Viera was constantly active on the bottom and Sakurai was throwing the whole time (standing, top, bottom). Viera didn't do much when he was on top, but that hardly made it a boring fight. Guest Big_Jay101 Report post Posted June 6, 2005 With all the Vanderlei-Chuck stuff I have been hearing about, it seems like this fight is a reality and will happen. if so how do you think it will go about, I imagine it will take place at a Pride event, but who do you see winning, strengths, weaknesses against one another and all that. Tito Ortiz said Chuck would win, but we all know Tito has a big mouth, how do you guys see this going.
Guest Brian Report post Posted June 6, 2005 Not going to happen. Neither organization will loan out their champions. Couture would be more likely, and I think even that would be a stretch for the UFC. I think the fight depends on the environment, and that is the way I look at Randy/Wanderlei also. Pride rules, with the kicks and knees to the head of a dwoned opponent greatly work in Wanderlei's favor; likewise, the elbows are a big plus for Randy. Plus the cage. It'd be interesting to see if Chuck would try to take him down and ground and pound rather than try to stand, or whether he does what Rudo and I assume Shogun can do against Wanderlei, which is stun and rush. It'd also be interesting if Vitor can get back to the top of his game again, and get things straightyened out physically and mentally (though he seems to be much better off in the former). Vitor >>>> all
Guest Big_Jay101 Report post Posted June 6, 2005 Dana White said he would do it, I guess it is up to Pride, It sucks that if neither orginization will lend thier fighters out because Chuck challenged Wanderleia fter UFC 52 and Wanderlei is calling Chuck out through interviews. RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted June 7, 2005 UFC is the type of company that would take someone like Rampage and ruin him by not building him up for their audience. Jackson knew/knows that.

Your Paragon of Virtue 0 Report post Posted June 9, 2005 UFC is the type of company that would take someone like Rampage and ruin him by not building him up for their audience. Jackson knew/knows that. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I don't think that's true, the UFC right now is doing a good job of building Buentello, it will be for naught though. They built a few guys in the past, and Rampage as a Christian isn't the same character anyway. I personally think he backed out because he wants to get on a bit of a roll before he takes a fight as difficult as one with Chuck or Randy. That's understandable, as with his recent history to step right back into a match with either of those guys would be dangerous. He's already said he doesn't like fighting for PRIDE since they don't give him a notice on fights most of the time. The UFC matches up fighters well I think. Sometimes that doesn't work out, especially when you have a guy like GSP fighting Matt Hughes a lot sooner than you'd like. But the UFC is all about matching up top guys. It's not as good at building hype, but it creates better matches than the ones in PRIDE with all the cans that get thrown in for the sake of making someone look better. Guest Big_Jay101 Report post Posted June 14, 2005 I have been surfing around on some MMA forums and how come Chuck Liddell gets a lot of hate from these people? It seems like they think that he isn't good and gets lucky KO's, I believe someone called his KO of Randy a wild punch, when it was very precise and targeted. They seem to think Wanderlei is a god, I mean he is great but I think a fight between him and Chuck is a toss up, there is no clear winner, it could go either way. RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted June 15, 2005 I was at a video retailer today and I saw a bunch of UFC and MMA dvd's on sale. UFC 46: Supernatural UFC 47: It's On UFC 48: Payback Extreme Challenge 1 and 2 (9 bucks) WEC 1 ( 14 bucks) KOTC: Pinnacle It's been a while since I've seen the UFC DVD's, and I'm looking for thoughts on all of them. Plus, there was a UFC display by the front counter... awesome!
Hunter's Torn Quad 0 Report post Posted June 15, 2005 UFC 46 is pretty good, and would have been better had the main event not had such a disappointing ending. UFC 47 is pretty good as well, but with a main event that delivers it's overall better than 46.
