Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2006 I have no clue but whenever I watch Shogun/Arona I'm gonna think "BAM! BAM! BAM!" when he does the hammerfists that put Arona out.
Damaramu 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2006 I just watched UFC 31 and I was wondering something. Why don't they do the cool entrances anymore? Newton's entrance was badass. Speaking of Newton. Will he ever be back?
Adam 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2006 Wasn't the money an issue? I mean, I remember the Tito entrance with the pyro for his fight with Shamrock, that was badass. There was a Chuck one with 'Is it me.. or is it getting cold in here?' that was pretty cool too. They should bring back the elevated wrestling ramp, has a more epic feel to it. Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2006 I enjoy fighters walking the aisle with the fans. Sets it apart from the people who still view UFC in the same bracket as pro wrestling.
Lei Tong 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2006 As LotC just mentioned, the UFC was looking to get away from pro-wrestling style entrances, and instead went for ones similar to boxing.

Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2006 Right on. Or not. I watched St. Pierre vs Pete Spratt last night and it's funny to hear the announcers from TKO talk about Spratt as a Top Ten WW (which I guess he was at the time). Good golly does GSP run a train on that man. That was also the fight which got him in with UFC as Spratt was meant to face Karo @ 46 IIRC.
Lei Tong 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2006 Spratt was never Top Ten because Robbie Lawler never was, either.
Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2006 Oh well. I've only seen Spratt fight twice and both time get choked out in the exact same fashion. Still not Trigg-level bad but funny regardless. At least Frank's RNC were different each time.

Damaramu 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2006 Back to Carlos Newton. Does he fight in Japan? From watching his old fights the dude looks awesome and I'd like to see him back in the UFC.
Lei Tong 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2006 Newton hasn't fought since Chonan beat him nearly 2 year ago. He had a number of problems, including a mediocre training team, school, having to cut massive weight to make 170lbs, and not having the skill to compete at 185lbs. Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2006 I remember Anderson's knee to Newton when Newton went for the takedown. One of my favorite KO's.
Lei Tong 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2006 Best MMA fighters by country: United States - Matt Hughes Canada - Georges St-Pierre Mexico - Miguel Gutierrez Brazil - Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira Russia - Fedor Emelianenko (don't bother crying about him being born in the Ukraine) Cuba - Hector Lombard Argentina - Diego Vitoski Bahamas - Yves Edwards Angola - Joao Roque Japan - Norifumi Yamamoto South Korea - Un Sik Son New Zealand - Mark Hunt Peru - Tony DeSouza Ukraine - Igor Vovchanchyn Belarus - Andrei Arlovski Germany - Chalid Arrab Greece - Stefanos Miltsakakis Armenia - Karo Parisyan Afghanistan - Romie Aram Australia - Ian Schaffa Mongolia - Blue Wolf England - Michael Bisping France - David Baron Spain - Daniel Tabera Norway - Joachim Hansen Croatia - Mirko Filipovic Finland - Sauli Heilimo Denmark - Lars Besand Sweden - Per Eklund Latvia - Kestutis Arbocius Lithuania - Remigijus Morkevicius Georgia - Tengiz Tedoradze Italy - Alessio Sakara Holland - Alistair Overeem Switzerland - Augusto Frota South Africa - Trevor Prangley MSIA's list (though I nominated Gutierrez). Personally, even though he's winless, I'd say Sumiyabazar is better than Blue Wolf/Serjbudee, and would probably put Shaolin in Minotauro's place.

Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2006 Shogun and both Nog's have a more complete game then Silva, IMO. Considering that there's a good chance we're gonna see Wandy eat canvas against Fujita I'd be hesitant to put him in any kind of a top spot.

Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2006 Is that code for "Decison"?
Lei Tong 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2006 More or less. Fujita looked rather defleated in his comeback fight, and his takedowns & control aren't exactly unstoppable, even when juiced to the gills. On the other hand, the Chute Boxe team has shown that there isn't a weight they can't swell to. Also, while Fujita has an iron chin, he doesn't necessarily like eating tons of shots in succession, and could possibly be flustered by Wanderlei punching him all night. Top it off with a lack of finishing skills, and an upset is very possible.
Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2006 A lot of people think Wandy will take it somehow so I wouldn't call a Silva decison an upset. Upset would be Fujta by submission or Silva by KO.
Lei Tong 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2006 I'd call it an upset since Silva is piss-scared of takedown artists with no stand-up.
