I'm heading to San Francisco for two days on the 22md - 23rd of August. Got my sightseeing in the afternoons pretty much sorted, but i'm wondering what to do during the evenings.

 

Can anyone recommend me any good resturants, bars and clubs to head to? Foodwise i'll give anything a shot, bar and club wise i'd lean more towards Rock, Indie or Electro. If anyones got any good advice i'd be more than greatful, thanks in advance.

Anyways, there's lots of stuff to do. I didn't write the next several paragraphs.

 

Well, it depends on what you want to get out of it, but the Bay is full of good stuff. Been to 924 Gilman Street in Berkeley? Cool punk club that's been all volunteer run for over 20 years. 924gilman.org

 

Slims is good. Also, Thee Parkside in SF. Laid back bar with pretty awesome shows. www.theeparkside.com

 

The mission district in SF is pretty awesome. Depends how you feel about hipsters, I guess. But there are some rad bars: Kilowatt is a good dive, Casanova has a cool atmosphere. I like more laid back places, but if you want the crowds, Elbo Room and Delerium are good.

 

Monday nights, 540 Club on Clement St in the Inner Richmond Dist of SF has dollar mixed drinks.

 

Borderlands books on Valencia St is all sci-fi/horror/fantasy. Probably my favorite book store in the city. Green Apple books on Clement is also good.

 

Oh, you HAVE to go to the Parkway Theater in Oakland. They play cool movies and also serve food and alcohol, and the seating is all couches and chairs and tables. Get some friends, get drunk, and catch an action movie - you can be all loud and nobody cares. It's like watching at home but with a big screen. www.picturepubpizza.com

Also, the Bridge on Geary is solid. They have Midnight Mass every weekend, showing cool movies at midnight. I'm def catching Purple Rain.

Theres a few items I need to get before I leave SF on the Sunday morning (Fire Extinguisher, tent pegs and the like) and i'd like to not be spending most of my afternoons there searching one out.

The North Face is one of the favorites in the area. Get me a jacket while you're there, too. There's one on 1238 5th street, and another on 180 Post Street.

 

To get to the one on Post, take BART from anywhere you are to the Montgomery St station. I forget where Union Square is, but it'll be close to that BART station, and your fare will be $1.50 each way. Anyways, just take BART to Montgomery, and find Post, and just walk down about a block or two.

To change tack a bit, as a first time visitor to San Fran, is there anywhere I should be activily avoiding, theres dodgy spots in every town so i'd like to get the heads up before I take a wrong turn somewhere

Most people try to avoid the mission district at night. There's stuff to do there, but it's a largely homosexual area and sometimes it gets kind of sketch. And never go into the Tenderloin district.

My mom works right by Union Square, and she always disembarks the BART at the Powell St. station, actually. I think it's about equidistant though, it's just if you're coming from the Millbrae side as opposed to the Oakland side, it's one less stop, and vice versa.

 

And yeah Mission gets crazy sketch from what I saw. North Beach seems to be where all the clubs are at, I mean at least from the couple days I was there. Good Italian food there, though (I was there for City Lights Books and stopped at a few places, and there's this one Indian place that's cheap and pretty good as well, called Naan n Curry and it's in several locations, so that might be a good spot as well.)

I have started a new job rather quickly that has me out in Cali right now. I had to drive (yes, DRIVE) in a rental van with two other guys from Atlanta to Cali. We left on Tuesday evening and got to Van Nuys on Thursday.

 

While I haven't had much sleep or much time to do anything, I can say that I fucking hate this fucking state.

 

Maybe because I have only been to some parts of LA, Van Nuys(which I could walk around and enjoy good enough, only it was hot as hell and i was the only black guy around and kept getting stared at which is annoying) and Canyon Country (which is pretty and there is plenty to do, but apparently women are only 12-16 and 63 and up. Not ONE goddamn piece of ass yet.

 

And that brings me to me next bitchoff. I have seen only a handful of hot women. What the motherfucking fuck is going on here? I thought this was supposed to be the mecca of beautiful women or something. Fuck this place. I am here for another two weeks. I think I am supposed to be in Palmdale this weekend so if any of you are in that area, hit me up and prove to me that this isn't a fucking horrible state.

Hahaha, Ripper's in Canyon Country! I grew up right by there, next neighborhood over in Newhall/Valencia. Magic Mountain, dude. But yeah, everyone is either old as shit or very young (byproduct of when I was growing up, seeing TONS and TONS of little kids EVERYWHERE, so now they're all bratty teens)- if you're my age, you're either a meth addict or a lunatic if you stay in Santa Clarita. Most of the people I know moved elsewhere, at least in L.A. if not other places.

 

And it is the mecca of beautiful women, but you are in all the wrong places and I don't think they're your kind of women to begin with. L.A.'s got the skinny blonde big-tits thing down pat, but if you want some fine looking girls go down to Hollywood, Santa Monica, and all that. You're out in Tweekerville, dude.

 

Also, Van Nuys is the Porn Capital of the World. All the fun shit's going on inside. You want to go to a strip club, hit up Spearmint Rhino or the Body Shop on Sunset (my personal favorite place).

I'm 22 and I still live in Santa Clarita (not a meth addict, don't ask). There are pretty girls up here, but mostly in Valencia and Saugus (beware of the rich and spolied and bro hoes). Everywhere else is a bust for women. For women, go where VX tells to go, and go into Crenshaw/Baldwin Hills/Ladera Heights/Leimert Park area for the black chicks. Everything VX said about this Valley of the damned is true, don't fucking waste your time anywhere north of the 5 freeway. Who the fuck gave you the advice to go to Palmdale? Palmdale?! The only thing worse that this shitty valley is that one. Don't let fucking Palmdale paint SoCal in any negative light dude. The Valley is a good start off place for newcomers. Just stay south of the five and you'll be alright.
