Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted August 13, 2008 Seeing as how the card is finalized and we know it's FO FREE we can get some official discussion gwaning instead of just random comments in various threads. Main Card for TV Main Event: Michael 'The Count' Bisping vs Chris 'The Crippler' Leben (185) Lyoto Machida vs Thiago Silva (205) Keith Jardine vs Brandon Vera (205) Akihiro Gono vs Dan Hardy (170) Sokodjou vs Luiz Cane (205) Undercard Sammy Stout vs Terry Etim (155) Per Eklund vs Semmy Schiavo (155) Marcus Davis vs Paul Kelly (170) Chris Lytle vs Paul Taylor (170) Shane Carwin vs Neil Wain (206+) David Bielkhaden vs Jess Liaudin (170) I'm really looking forward to this show. In terms of free main cards that might be the best one we've seen so far and I see some really fun fights panning out, especially between Silva/Machida and Soko/Cain. Speaking of Silva/Machida that fight will be putting the winner up with guys like Chuck, Rashad and Wanderlei in terms of who's next for a title shot. Bisping/Leben shouldn't be the main event (Lyoto vs Thiago, IMO) but I know why it is and the fight itself is a solid contrast in styles with Bisping's smooth kickboxing vs Leben's zombie-brawling. Undercard is stacked too, Lytle/Taylor and Davis/Kelly should be bangers and we can see if the Carwin hype machine keeps rolling. Mik- Can you edit the sub-title for this thread? Show ain't gonna be live, my bad.
Mik 0 Report post Posted August 14, 2008 I'm really stoked for this card. Silva/Machida is just a great fight. Silva is a perfect fighter for Machida's style, at least I think. The fact that this fight is on free TV is just thrilling to me. And Bisping vs. Leben is no main event, sure, but it's definitely a fight I want to see. It's Bisping's first real test at 185 and if he looks as impressive as he did in his first two fights then that's something to get excited about. Those two fights alone and I'm hooked but Jardine/Vera is huge and awesome as well, both guys really need to win or in Vera's case really need to look good winning. I'd pay for this card. AlwaysPissedOff 0 Report post Posted August 14, 2008 Really nice card. I can't wait to see that overrated cunt Bisping get waxed by Leben. I can't pick a winner in Vera/Jardine since Jardine really needs a win after Wandy basically raped his soul and Vera needs to actually look motivated for once. I hope the Davis/Kelly fight gets shown, personally.
Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted August 14, 2008 I hope the Davis/Kelly fight gets shown, personally. LOTC gots it wrong, this fight is getting shown on TV not Gono/Hardy... So is Taylor/Lytle, which makes it a 6 fight card. Thats what the UFC site says...
Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted August 14, 2008 The card isn't overwhelming, but it's pretty solid from top to bottom. I can't think of a way to pick Leben to win this fight

Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted August 14, 2008 I see Leben running face first into jabs for 15 minutes and Bisping killing him in the clinch
Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted August 14, 2008 Luckily Bisping couldn't crack an egg with his punches but I think he's smart enough to avoid the bombs and out-point Leben for 15 minutes.
Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted August 14, 2008 Luckily Bisping couldn't crack an egg with his punches but I think he's smart enough to avoid the bombs and out-point Leben for 15 minutes. I pretty much see it that way. jabbing away for most of the fight, maybe a takedown and control there, but not a lot else
Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted August 14, 2008 If anything I see Leben taking Bisping down.
Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted August 15, 2008 Luckily Bisping couldn't crack an egg with his punches but I think he's smart enough to avoid the bombs and out-point Leben for 15 minutes. But his clinch game with knees look deadly... Leben can take punches from any middleweight not named Anderson Silva... But Bisping has a lot of tools in his striking game, and I see him punishing Leben in the body which could take a toll on Leben in the later rounds. I honestly think it's a close fight to call, because just when you think Leben's finished he will have that one punch KO, and he haven't really seen Bisping get rocked other then his fight against Ross "da boss!" in TUF3, and he shook it off... But then again Ross didn't follow up on it, and you know Leben will follow up on it. Right now I'm calling for Bisping to win by a possible 3rd round stoppage or a clear desicion victory, but I'm hoping for Leben to knock his head off his shoulders. Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted August 15, 2008 I'm rooting for Bisping simply because I can never ever see Chris Leben in a title position. He could walk throw every MW available and UFC still wouldn't give him a shot.
Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted August 15, 2008 Yeah it's hard to market a rematch with Anderson Silva for the title after problay the biggest beatdown in UFC history... There is no appeal in it. Aslong as Anderson has the title, Leben ain't getting a shot. And I can't see Anderson losing the title in the distant future, the only one I can really see challenging Anderson for the title is Filho, but the chances of that fight happening is slim to none. Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted August 15, 2008 Oh man, after seeing Sonnen give him trouble Andy would beat the shit out of Filho AND his Mike Tyson tattoo.
Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted August 15, 2008 Oh man, after seeing Sonnen give him trouble Andy would beat the shit out of Filho AND his Mike Tyson tattoo. Sonnen is a lot better then he gets credit for at this stage in his career, I knew he was going to cause Filho problems when the fight was announced. Sonnen will be a force in the UFC middleweight division, once they unify the WEC and UFC's upper weight divisions. Plus Sonnen and A.Silva style-wise are completely different opponets, Sonnen is a better wrestler then A.Silva... Filho shouldn't really have many problems taking A.Silva down(but keeping him down and mounting any significant offense or submission attempts is a different discussion), I see him giving A.Silva a tough fight, but ultimately getting KO'd. But it's a moot point, because the chances of them agreeing to fight each other is very unlikely.
Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted August 16, 2008 Sonnen will be a force in the MW division provided he doesn't face anybody above a white belt.
Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted August 16, 2008 Sonnen will be a force in the MW division provided he doesn't face anybody above a white belt. This isn't the same Sonnen from a few years ago... How many fights have you seen from him since his last fight in the UFC against Horn? He's a much better overall fighter. And Tim Creuder is a black belt and Sonnen smashed him in 2 miniutes. Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted August 16, 2008 Dude gets subbed a fair bit. Just sayin'. I don't dislike Chael and if he did well for himself in the UFC MW division (which is possible given it's lack of depth) I'd be happy for the guy.
Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted August 16, 2008 Dude gets subbed a fair bit. Just sayin'. Like I said, that was the old Sonnen, he's much more improved now. He's 6-1 in his last 7 fights, and his one loss was by controversial submission.
Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted September 5, 2008 Rumors are going around that Thiago has a fucked-up back and had to pull out against Lyoto. There's a thread on Sherdog that links to www.intheguard.tv and on the main page there's a report saying that this is a potentially long-term injury. Hope it's bullshit but if not, FUCK. Also, if it's legit who the fuck will step up and fight Lyoto on this short notice?
Mik 0 Report post Posted September 5, 2008 No one probably has the balls except some jobber.
Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted September 5, 2008 As far as I see it there's pretty much nobody that could do it, especially with only a month and a bit to train. Fuck this sucks, even more so if it's as severe an injury as the article says.

Regardless of what happens to Boetsch in the future he'll always be in our hearts. Him dropping Heath on his head still might be my "OH SHIT SON" moment of the year.
