This Week in Baseball 9/15 - 9/21

Recommended Posts

BTW, I've already heard the "The playoffs won't be the same without the Yankees" rhetoric from the talking heads. We all knew this was coming.

That's my least favorite talking point EVER. I enjoyed baseball the most in the early 90s when the Yankees sucked. I'll take the old Jays-O's races in the AL East races over Yanks and Sox. I'm turning into a Rays fan just because it allows me to spite both douchie fan bases at the same time.

The Astros are bitching about having to play at Miller Park

Um, maybe if you didn't suck during the first half, you'd have the wildcard. I'm glad the Astros are more concernced about not playing at Minute Maid Park than having much of Texas being wipped off the map. I hate Selig, but he did his best to try to sort out a delicate situation in the middle of a horrible natural disaster.

Im glad I was able to get to a game back in May.

I wish I didnt have to watch this on ESPN. ugh

An Orioles fan complaining about Jon Miller calling a game?

Its not Jon Miller. Its not Morgan either.

Id rather just be watching it on MASN. Only good thing is its in HD.

“We survived Ike,” the back of the shirt read in red lettering atop a drawing of the radar impression of the eye of the storm.

On the front, it read: “Bud killed us,” over a red drawing of the commissioner’s bust.

The Astros were upset at Selig’s decision to force them to play the Cubs at Miller Park on Sunday and Monday while their friends and family dealt with Ike’s aftermath.

LaTroy is a fucking douchebag retard cocksucker who offers nothing in life. Clever shirt, you piece of shit. This whole Astros team is a bunch of infected cunts.

But the reason they were in this mess was because McLane was too stubborn, greedy, and dumb to handle this in a timely manner. Moving two games to Milwaukee was the result of having no time to make better and fairer plans, and it's all their own damn fault.

The Irish Tenor sucks a dick, I'm sorry.

Jeter leaves with two outs in the ninth and takes a curtain call.

Fuck you pal.

Shut up.

It's the final game at Yankee Stadium, let him have the moment.

Why him though? It would seem odd that the final Yankees stadium moment is that of Derek Jeter getting a curtain call. You'd think they'd try to make it about the team, not about the guy. That's what I presume the fuck you is about. Then again he isn't exactly fond of the Yankees anyways.

He's the most popular player on the team, and just recently set the record for most hits at Yankee Stadium. Girardi gave him a chance to get one last standing ovation at Yankee Stadium, just like they put Rivera in to close it out.

My question is, when has a player ever left a game in that manner, for that purpose? I have never seen it before in my life watching baseball. And what makes Jeter so damn important? This attitude will come back to bite them in the ass when they resign him and let him play shortstop into his 40s.

Honestly I think too big of a deal is made out of the whole last game thing. They are getting a bigger (I assume) park next year that will be very expensive, and they will trot out a very expensive team next year and the year after that and so on. It's not as if the Yankees are closing up shop to move to Portland and become the major league version of the Beavers. The Yankees will still be the Yankees and most everyone will still hate them.

It's like in basketball when they call a timeout to let a player soak in the applause.

And what makes Jeter so damn important?

He's the most popular player on the current Yankees, and probably the most popular player since he joined the team in 1996. He just recently became the all time leader for hits at Yankee Stadium. He's currently the face of the franchise.

One has nothing to do with the other.

Honestly I think too big of a deal is made out of the whole last game thing.

It's the last game in the most famous stadium in America, it definitely deserves to be a big deal.

Personally, I think it's stupid that their moving to a new stadium anyway.

I'm just sad that they won. A loss in their last game as Yankess stadium that would have officially eliminated them from the playoffs would have been a great moment. Oh well, they had their moment, I guess it went as well for them as it could, and now ESPN can get off the nostalgia train.

There never has been a situation quite like Yankee Fucking Stadium closing, so you're right, no one has ever come out for that purpose, but that purpose has never been an issue. The fans at the Stadium obviously wanted it to, that applause was enourmous, so lay off him. Derek Jeter is one of the most important Yankees ever, let him have this. Let the Yankee fans have it.
