bob_barron 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2008 Why? It's a kids movie, and there hasn't been a big famiily film since Wall-E. Of course families are going to run out and see it.
foleyfanforever88 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2008 There is something wrong with the kids in this country. There's a difference between a good kids movie (Wall-E) and a bad one (Chihuahua). Even 12 years ago I wouldn't have wanted to see BHC.

EDIT: I'm not really serious about that, but anyways, HSM3 is coming out soon, right?
Slayer 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2008 But what are kids going to see? They could just not go to the theater in the first place
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2008 I'm not defending BHC as a quality movie, but there hasn't been an "event" marketed to kids in a while. Plus, the movie got mixed reviews, it's not like it's a Razzie winner.
Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2008 Are churches buying up all the Fireproof tickets? I've yet to see an ad for it, and I see it's on a low theater count. Looks like marketing Nick and Norah and Juno 2 didn't seem to work. Sure, it's gotta be a cheap movie to make, but they were probably expecting much better. Glad to see Appaloosa do well. I want to see more westerns in theaters. And Blindness ate it for the tons of ads I've been seeing.
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2008 Yes, churches are buying up tickets in bulk for Fireproof. Apparently Kirk Cameron did the movie for free, with no royalties even. Oops.
Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2008 meh, good for him. Probably doesn't need to cash. As long as he can send "his message" he'll be ok with it

Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2008 Just watched the trailer for Fireproof out of wonder. It looks like a Hallmark channel movie, not even straight to DVD worthy, but Hallmark or Lifetime
Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2008 Looks like everyone doubted Appaloosa and overthought Blindness. Simon Pegg's awful looking movie is nowhere to be seen. Looks like NINTEENTH PLACE! on 1,750 screens. And Spike Lee's movie continues to bomb out Dark Knight is now over $525m
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2008 It opened at #19, joining the under $1,000 PSA club. So I will of course go see it.

strummer 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2008 any chance American Carol turns Kevin Farley into a star? It got decent buzz because of the Michael Moore storyline and Farley was on Leno and the View the past few weeks. He's doing a Happy Madison movie with Spade next year also. I don't expect him to be as big a star as his brother but he's a solid comedic actor who should steadily get work and sporadically headline a movie
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2008 He'll always get work because of his brother, but star is a stretch
strummer 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2008 He'll always get work because of his brother, but star is a stretch I was thinking more a second tier/Jim Belushi type star. Spade's movies (sans Chris Farley) never really make money so the Happy Madison Production will probably wind up in the Dickie Roberts ballpark

If the movie had made a dent in the boxoffice then he'd have a chance of doing anything, but it went barely top 10, with a wide release, and being a political comedy just a month shy of the election. And a movie with David Spade does no one any favors

Because even for a kids movie, it looks like shit. Besides, it's no Homeward Bound. As I said, I'm sure if you're a kid it looks like fun, and while it's not getting good reviews, a 44 rating at metacritic isn't awful for a kids movie. King Kamala 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2008 Wow- I was thinking about going to see How To Lose Friends and Alienate People this week...I guess I better do so if I want to see it in theaters. Even if it does sound like it kind of sucks- Simon Pegg+Jeff Bridges= A discount night movie ticket for me!
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2008 I don't even know how to accurately describe Appaloosa. It's not a bad movie, but it's VERY poorly edited and felt like a very rushed film. It's got comedy elements that feel very weird and the Viggo voice over work was actually extremely lackluster. Pacing is a serious serious problem with it and it uses up nearly every western cliche you can find. It is just an odd movie cause I don't feel like I was screwed but I don't feel satisfied with what I saw either.
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2008 I'm gonna try and go today or tomorrow. Kamala can celebrate his first $1,000 PSA movie for 08! This will be my fourth. Too many movies came out this week, going to be hard to catch up
DarKnight 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2008 I think with Simon Pegg, people just ignore his movies if they don't have Nick Frost in them. Didn't Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz do pretty well? I'm kinda shocked that his new movie came in at 19th place. I thought anything that had a few ads on TV would at least debut in the top 10.
HollywoodSpikeJenkins 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2008 I blame Kirsten Dunst. She makes every movie she is in look bad.
