Who was Duke Dory? Former heel announcer in the WWF

Recommended Posts

I'm currently watching WWE Old School on WWE 24/7, where the WWF held this House Show in the Sam Houston Arena in Houston, Texas. The announcers were Bruce Pritchard, Duke Dory, & Mike McGuirk. This event was in December of 1987, and it was headlined by a WWF Championship match between then champion, Hulk Hogan against Ted Dibiase, who had both Virgil & Andre The Giant in his corner.

Now, this Duke Dory guy apparently did his job very well as a heel commentator in the WWF. But, does anyone really know who this guy was, basically. I watched the WWF, back in the 80's, and I watched all the old videos from the WWF. But, I never had any knowledge of this heel commentator named, Duke Dory. Can someone shed a little light on this guy, here?

I think his official name was the Duke of Dorchester, and I might be wrong... but wasn't Pritchard actually doing that voice as well?

That was Boston area jobber the Duke of Dorchester Pete Doherty. He actually did commentary w/ Pritchard (pre Brother Love) during that Sam Houston Coliseum show. The Duke also commentated a Boston Garden show or two. His most high profile job was probably losing to JYD in short order at the inaugural SNME.

I stand corrected as far as the guy's name goes, and here's the results from the Houston show from Graham Cawthon's website.

IIRC Scott Keith tried to claim that Bruce Pritchard was the Duke and actually did straight Play by play as himself in one voice and used the Duke voice to heel it up. Scott keith everybody.

And we have an old school questions thread. I think its stickied.

I listened closely but it seemed like Doherty and Pritchard overlap at times to the point where I didn't think it was possible it could be the same guy without studio overdubbing. Did they ever actually show the announcers sitting there so we knew that there were 3 people?

I think it's hilarious that Sam Houston show only drew 2000 people with Hogan vs. DiBiase as the main event.

Let me be more blunt: Scott Keith is a fucking retard

How many books and rant archives have you sold again, Brody? What was the number of free DVDs studios sent you to review on your highly viewed blog?

Venkman, it's a well known open secret that you're Scott Keith's BUTT boy! We've all heard about you commenting on his blog!
