Barack Obama's Inauguration

Recommended Posts

blah blah blah you live in America, Obama will be president, he IS your president! GET OVER IT!

And I just think its amazing a black man did win because lets face it there is a ton of horribly racist people EVERYWHERE. I can wait to see it all just eat away at those people.

He's not my President.

Technically he's no one's president for another two and a half months.

George W. Bush is STILL YOUR PRESIDENT! Woooooooooooo!

You can wonder the opposite too.

True, but we've never had a minority presidential canidate before, so that's never been an issue. Of the few people I've talked to that were voting for Obama, it seemed that they were more interested in bucking the system than electing the best man for the job. I'm just glad that Hitlery didn't win.

No, instead, the issues have been much stupider, ala the "who would you like to have a beer with" bullshit.

Yeah, that's what happened. The reason the US elected a black president was because he was BLACK.

Oh and 'Hitlery', I see what you did there.

The thing about the black vote is figuring out what the increase of first time black voters was. Obama got 95% of the black vote...which I saw was only 5% higher than Kerry and 7% higher than Gore. Blacks vote democrat. So any new voters that Obama got out, it could be argued, could be voting for that reason...but he also got a higher youth vote out too. Youth's and blacks were going to vote Democrat either way...it's just a matter of getting them to the booth.

It's not the percentage of the black vote that is worth discussing, but rather the increase in the percentage of the electorate due to new black voters. The percentage of the black vote which goes to Obama is quite unimportant. The new percentages on how the electorate is composed are more helpful in knowing the impact his candidacy had in bringing blacks to vote.

That's what I was trying to say.

I know, I just wanted to say it myself.

And personally, I think it's great that a black man was elected President, even if I did not vote for him. It's good for our country to see a black man holding the highest office. I like that African-Americans in society have been able to attain the highest of goals. I don't agree with his policies, but I'd rather not get into that.

However, the way people keep talking about the racial aspect is beginning to bother me. It is important, but the outside world is harsh, and the problems this country has really don't give a fuck. Leaders of countries we have tensions with don't care. An economic crisis does not recognize his race. It's time to move forward and get to solutions rather than get starry-eyed and take our eyes off the ball here.

I wonder how many people voted for Obama based on his skin color vs. how he stands on the issues?

Obama had a stand on the issues?

Seriously, I know someone who said they were voting for Obama, and I asked "So you approve of that refundable tax credit he wants for health care" and got an immediate "Absolutely, great idea." I didn't have the heart to tell them that was part of McCain's proposed health care plan.

Heh. A person I know from work got called a racist by a black guy because he said he wasn't voting for Obama. When he asked the same guy what he feels about Obama's stances on some of the issues were, he couldn't name ONE thing. And my co-worker was called a racist?

The leaders of countries that George Bush pissed off, however, do.

Wow, not like we haven't heard that one before. It's not like there's this website that you could go to, or the numerous debates you could have watched, or dozens of other things you could have discerned his view on the issues.

But hey, what am I to say? The Republicans' campaign of "OMG SOCIALIST!" was so much more issue-based.

Because those black people didn't go through the struggle. They weren't slaves. They weren't in segregated schools. They don't know. Yes, you can acknowledge that it's nice, because you know the history, but since you didn't live through it, it shouldn't hit you here.

Are you trying to imply that black youths are on par with everyone else from a racial perspective? If so, what part of NY are you living in because that's definitely NOT the way things are anywhere else. If anything, it was all the middle aged white people crying that had me a little bit confused.

every election people vote for guys who they know nothing about. It's not uncommon. You don't think everyone that voted for McCain did so because they were well-informed.

Smith: Now that the election is over, Carl, tell us more about those reports of infighting between Palin and McCain staffers.

Cameron: I wish I could have told you more at the time but all of it was put off the record until after the election. There was great concern in the McCain campaign that Sarah Palin lack the degree of knowledgeability necessary to be a running mate, a vice president, and a heartbeat away from the presidency. We’re told by folks that she didn’t know what countries that were in NAFTA, the North American Free Trade Agreement, that being the Canada, the US, and Mexico. We’re told she didn’t understand that Africa was a continent rather than a country just in itself ... a whole host of questions that caused serious problems about her knowledgeability. She got very angry at staff, thought that she was mishandled.....was particularly angry about the way the Katie Couric interview went. She didn’t accept preparation for that interview when the aides say that that was part of the problem. And that there were times that she was hard to control emotionally there's talk of temper tantrums at bad news clippings......

Notwithstanding that there is to be an avalanche that will continue for many days now we’re told of stoy upon story of the foibles of Sarah Palin.
