I saw The Day The Earth Stood Still this weekend. I thought it was a fairly dull, forgettable movie. The fact that in like its 3rd week it still managed to beat The Spirit in its opening week. As somehow who hasn't read the comic and knows nothing about The Spirit except what he's seen on the TV ads, I thought it looked really awful.

Is this going to be the movie to end Will Smith's little streak of sorts of having big money grossing movies? Or is it more of a coincidence due to the fact that several movies came out at the same time with big draws.

I'd say the latter, also the fact that all of the previews/reviews of 7 Pounds I've seen did little to reveal plot detail but from what I gather that's intentional in terms of marketing the film.

 

Considering he's got the I Am Legend prequel lined up and is being touted as the lead in Spielberg's adaptation of Oldboy I think he'll do fine, money wise in the coming years.

I saw "Benjamin Button" and "The Spirit" this week. "Button" is pretty damn good, "Spirit" ranges from hilariously bad to unwatchably bad.

God willing, in the future someone who respects the source material will make a decent Spirit film

How does Steven Spielberg and Will Smith end up remaking Oldboy? Are either one of them aware what that movie is about and how it ends?

 

I guess adaption means they will remove the ending and turn it into a some kind of chase thriller. Which you know, turns it into about 700 other movies already out.

I swear to christ, they deserve to be killed if they remake Battle Royale. There's no way you can do that movie as it was in Japan. It's not even a question. A bunch of high schoolers blowing each other away? A high school killer who seems to take joy in it? A girl who fucks her way to what she wants and is a murderous bitch?

 

No fucking way. And if you make them adults, it kills the entire point of the movie.

That's one of the things that boggles my mind about the Spirit movie; Frank Miller is a total Eisner fanboy.
