I would say the top 5 of interest (for me at least) are (no particular order): Virginia Tech vs. Alabama USC at Ohio State Utah at Oregon Oklahoma vs. BYU Georgia at Oklahoma State Oregon certainly put together a tough OOC schedule for next season (Utah, Boise State, Purdue). Urban Warfare 0 Report post Posted January 11, 2009 Apparently Tebow announced at the National Championship celebration that he is coming back for his Senior year (Hasn't been confirmed by a reliable source yet) Percy Harvin also said he was leaning towards coming back. Brown led the Minutemen to their best stretch in the program's history during his five-year tenure as coach, accumulating a 43-19 record and a pair of FCS playoff appearances, including a trip to the NCAA title game in 2006. My early spotlight games... A lot of intriguing "mid major" games against very solid competition next year. A lot of mid majors could get some points in the polls if they can beat their opposition. Florida, Oklahoma, and Texas look like the favorites again next year, especially since it sounds like Mark Sanchez will declare for the NFL draft (which would be a smart move on his part, since he will probably the 2nd QB picked after Stafford goes, and next year will be absolutely loaded with Bradford and McCoy). Damaramu 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2009 Yeah, I just have a feeling we're going to end up with the exact same situation as this season with OU/Texas vs. Florida in the BCS national title game. The only difference is that Texas Tech won't be there to create a 3-way tie (they are losing a lot) so we'll probably go back to the Big XII's traditional "Winner of the Red River Shootout wins the conference" way of doing things. Obviously, losing Harvin hurts but I feel there are more than enough playmakers to step up in Harvin's absence. JaMarcus Russell's #1 Caucasian Fan 0 Report post Posted January 16, 2009 My thoughts on Mark Sanchez: Mark Sanchez declared for the NFL draft yesterday, and watching a pissed Pete Carroll was surreal . Personally as an SC fan, I was disappointed to see him leave early, but it makes sense since Colt, Tebow and Bradford are staying. Honestly, I was never a big Sanchez fan (penchant for choking in the big games see Oregon 2007, and Oregon State 2008) but I thought he could benefit another year starting. I don't really think he'll be very good in the pros, as he doesn't read defenses too well and he is too skittish in the pocket. I'm really excited to see what Mitch Mustain, Matt Barkley and Aaron Corp do this spring with most of this offense coming back. It's still not completed at this point but it already has to be the best recruiting staff in the country. The most recent two coaches to add to the list are former Alabama Recruiting Coordinator and reigning Rivals.com Recruiter of the Year Lance Thompson, who will coach linebackers at Tennessee, and Eddie Gran, Auburn's best recruiter and one of the best RB coaches in the nation. In addition to former South Carolina Recruiting Coordinator David Reaves, former Purdue OC Jim Chaney, Oakland Raiders OLine Coach James Cregg, and, of course Lane, Monte Kiffin, and former USC RecCoordinator Ed Orgeron, this staff is a monster. And Florida Recruiting Coordinator Gonzalez is a possibility to be WR coach, according to the rumor mill. Several Alabama commits are looking hard at UT now, in addition to just about every major recruit who wasn't even thinking about the Vols when Fulmer was fired. We have guys lined up for visits who don't even have Tennessee on their Rivals or Scout lists because their interest is such a recent developement. Basically, according to one of the Scout.com recruiting analysts, "Tennessee is EVERYWHERE right now". So, long story short, UT should finish with a top ten or fifteen at worst class the offseason of a major coaching change which is unheard of, and their gonna get coached up great once they get here. And if you really think about it, aside from the 90's OU has been there every decade since WWII. Hell the article even says they have the best winning percentage of anyone in the country. I like what one guy said on those comments. "OU may have lost to Florida, but if we had to trade our trophy case with Florida's we'd start jumping out windows." They got about a billion DB's to fill the holes left by Nic Harris and Lendy Holmes. But, star ratings really don't mean shit. Rhett Bomar was a 5-star recruit. Sam Bradford was a 3-star recruit. Who was better? Quentin Chaney was a 5-star recruit. Juaquin Iglesias was a 3-star recruit. Look at their career totals and totals last season. Who was better? Hmmm...... So I don't put a ton of stock into the star ratings. It's usually who's recruiting you. You could be a 3-star recruit, but if Florida, OU and USC star recruiting you you're suddenly 5-stars. Granted I suppose UW has a better chance at actually improving (draft class rank tied for 68!) but at least Syracuse hasn't had the honor of being a BCS school with a winless season, in fact a BCS school with a BCS bowl victory with a winless season. Tennessee spokeswoman Tiffany Carpenter told The Associated Press the school would not file an official complaint to the NCAA. In a statement released Thursday, Florida denied it broke any recruiting rules and demanded an apology from Kiffin. “ His allegations are inappropriate, out of line and, most importantly, totally false. ” -- Florida statement "There was no rule violation and we have confirmed this with Southeastern Conference. It is obvious that Coach Kiffin doesn't know that there is not a rule precluding phone contact with a prospect during an official visit on another campus during a contact period. I guess Kiffin wants to set up yet another 30+ point loss at the Swamp this year. You are the underdog and you score the go-ahead touchdown with under a minute left, massive party breaks out. Oh wait, you get penalized your touchdown comes off the board. They should in no way give a celebration penalty the ability to take points off the board. Now I could see them enforcing repeat offenders with sitting them down a game for multiple offenses or something of that sort, but you can't take points off the board.
