bob_barron 0 Report post Posted June 5, 2005 I love how in the commentary for Luncheon at the Waldorf, they make sure to pause so we get Bill in all his glory. Maybe she called Bill an asshole or something? All the NewsRadio FAQs are gone now, but I do know a few lines were dubbed over, over the series run. I'm up to the commentary on Julie's Life now- this is an amazing DVD set
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted June 6, 2005 My one minor complaint with the DVD is there's no commentary on two of my favourite Bill episodes, Bill's Autobiography and The Cane. I can understand why, but it's just a slight disappointment. On the commentaries, it sounded like they were ragging on Rat Funeral but it isn't that bad. It's a bit too schmaltzy and dumb, but Dave is really really funny in it.
Spaceman Spiff 0 Report post Posted June 6, 2005 The writers mentioned in the commentaries that it was easier to write for Dave & Lisa after they broke up, but I dunno. Sure, there was some funny stuff in the episode or 2 after the breakup, but I much preferred them dating. As for the breakup, Lisa shouldn't have kept Stewart strung along, but all Dave had to do was keep his mouth shut at the end of that episode, and he would have had a chance to get back w/ Lisa. The "if Stewart comes around looking for some, I'll direct him to your desk" line always makes me cringe. Lisa gives him an opening in the building fire episode, but he blows it again there. And marrying Johnny Johnson? Johnny Johnson??? The man ends up a freakin' *HOBO*.
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted June 6, 2005 I think Lisa marrying Johnny Johnson was when everyone realised that the show was kind of a lost cause and they were just doing Season 5 to get to 100 episodes and to prove they could do it w/o Phil. I'm up to the episode with John Ritter now. If we are lucky enough that they get to a Season 5, would anyone buy? Some of the episodes are pretty funny, and if they did commentary on Bill Moves On, I would definetely pick it up.
Spaceman Spiff 0 Report post Posted June 6, 2005 I'd buy. I want all the episodes on DVD.
DrVenkman PhD 0 Report post Posted June 7, 2005 There was some funny stuff in Season 5 and I would pick it up to complete the series. If I could "wrestlingize" it, it's like people saying , let's use 2004 (or any year since 2000, really) as en example, was bad when in reality it was just a bad year in the grand scheme of history compared to past years of greatness, managing to have some really good moments but mess up a lot of things along the way. bob_barron 0 Report post Posted June 7, 2005 That's a good way to put it. It's interesting hearing them tlak about how for the beginning of Season 2, they had no idea what the hell they were doing and they produced some crappy episodes like Friends and Rat Funeral. I find it hard to believe that, since even though Friends and Rat Funeral aren't the funniest episodes ever, they're still funnier then most sitcoms.
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2005 I don't know why but I love in Zoso how Dave fucks with Lisa the whole show
DMann2003 0 Report post Posted July 19, 2005 BUMP, and I know Bob'll love this, cause I picked up the DVD finally today, and after rewatching just 2 episodes I'm reminded yet again why I loved this show so much. The gag reel was nice too. Some few shows are lucky to have a perfectly gelled cast so soon. Friends had it, All in the Family had it, Arrested Development has it, and Newsradio definetely had it. Jimmy- Who'd I hire as news director Lisa- Sorry Mr. James... Jimmy- No seriously, who'd I hire cause I lose track of these things.
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2005 So, does anyone know if Season 3 is in the works or if this DVD sold well at all? The good stuff in Season 1 and 2 I feel was just buildup to the amazing run of episodes we saw in Season 3 and then the God season of Season
Boner Kawanger 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2005 The only way I know to gaugehow well it sold is to just say that when it came out, it was in Deep Discount DVD's top twenty for a few weeks. I also remember looking at it on Amazon and it had a good sells ranking.
The Decemberists 0 Report post Posted July 25, 2005 Season 3 must be in the works. I can't imagine them releasing the first two and then just leaving it, regardless of how well it sold. But they might do what was done to Quantum Leap, which had loads of extras on the Season 1 set, but because I'm the only person on the planet who bought it, when they did Seasons 2 and 3 they didn't bother with making any extras.
Spaceman Spiff 0 Report post Posted July 26, 2005 I couldn't care less about extras. I'd be perfectly happy w/ a bare-bones release.
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2006 Well holy shit: Nick at Nite Unveils Roll-Out of New Hit Sitcoms When Home Improvement, A Different World, Newsradio and Designing Women Join Line-Up Beginning July 2006 Through September 2007 Released by Nick at Nite Nick at Nite Unveils Roll-Out of New Hit Sitcoms When Home Improvement, A Different World, Newsradio and Designing Women Join Line-Up Beginning July 2006 Through September 2007 Newsradio (July, 2006) -- This sitcom, which aired on NBC from 1995 to 1999 showcases the hilarious antics at WNYX, a whimsical #2 all news radio station in New York City. Dave Nelson (Dave Foley) has just been brought in from Wisconsin as the news director by the station's owner, Jimmy James (Stephen Root). A bit overwhelmed by his new job, Dave must also deal with his new co-workers who are rather eccentric and witty. The staff includes: on-air anchors Bill (Phil Hartman) and Catherine (Khandi Alexander) who are constantly sniping at each other, Matthew (Andy Dick), an inept reporter, Beth (Vicky Lewis), a crazy secretary and Joe (Joe Rogan), the maintenance man. Rounding off the staff is Lisa (Maura Tierney), a smart and ambitious writer who actually should have gotten Dave's job. The two end up beginning an on- again off-again romance that becomes the hot topic of conversation among their friends and colleagues. The untimely death of Phil Hartman led the show to cast Jon Lovitz in 1998 as Max Lewis, a new on-air personality.
Vampiro69 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2006 WOW, I never thought I would see NewsRadio on Nick at Nite. Man, now I am starting to feel old, and I am only 25!
Special K 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2006 I just bought the season 3 DVDs. This show was so great. The first episode in the season is probably the best, though. (Matthew's moustache, Jimmy runs for president) All in all, Season 2 had a lot of great Bill eps, Season 3 has a lot of great Jimmy eps. Although season 3 is where Bill starts to get hilariously creepy (good times...) The commentary on the first two seasons is better, they got pretty much all the actors back, and almost every ep seems to have a commentary. I don't mind not as many commentaries on season 3, but the first half of all the writers' commentaries is them trying to figure out which fucking episode it is. It's like, someone hand them a synopsis!
Special K 0 Report post Posted May 4, 2006 "how could she do that, Lisa? How could she... French her Daddy?" "When those scrappy little Pilgrims... hang on. Matthew come here. WHAT'S the story with your face, son?" Best lines ever. Well outside of AD.
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted May 4, 2006 Yea, how could she...french her daddy is a great Billism. I always love: Bill: It's like my father used to say: "When I was a child I thought as a child and spoke as a child, but when I became a man I took that child out back and had him shot." Bill's quote about being cut from football (I don't know the exact wording) is another great one.
Vampiro69 0 Report post Posted May 4, 2006 I believe the football quote is "The team may have lost a fullback, but we have gained a daughter." It may not be correct word for word but the message is the same.

bob_barron 0 Report post Posted June 11, 2006 She's doing some Off Broadway play in NYC, so I had to go meet her. My friend spotted her walking down the street, I froze, but then ran up to her and asked for a pic. She was running late, but saw my friend already had her camera out and was totally cool about it. I didn't get my NewsRadio DVDs signed b/c she was running late, but she was really nice and really really hot. I met Fran Drescher too. So, Spiff- does that count as a sex look? Vampiro69 0 Report post Posted June 11, 2006 Nicely done Bob! Did you try to give her a plain doughnut because it reminded you of her?
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted June 11, 2006 Haha I should have. I did manage to blurt out that I loved NewsRadio, and she seemed to appreciate it. My friend wants to meet Eric McCormack (who is also in the play) so I might go back in a few weeks, and see if I can get my DVDs signed.
Spaceman Spiff 0 Report post Posted June 11, 2006 You should've told her you think ER should be cancelled. A pic of Maura kicking Bob in the nuts would be priceless

bob_barron 0 Report post Posted July 28, 2006 Now is your chance Spiff- Maura Tierney's Marriage Flatlines By Natalie Finn 1 hour, 8 minutes ago Sometimes there just isn't a cure for what ails you. After 13 years of marriage, Maura Tierney is looking to divorce her husband, actor-director Billy Morrissette. The couple, who have no children, have been separated since Mar. 7. The ER star--whose pregnant character, Abby Lockhart, was last seen collapsing in pain during the show's cliffhanger season finale in May--filed her petition Wednesday in Los Angeles Superior Court, citing "irreconcilable differences." In the beginning, Morrissette and Tierney shared a true Hollywood romance--they met after both being fired from a TV series that was to star Ralph Macchio (but was later scrapped, in case you were wondering). The duo tied the knot in February 1993. Morrissette, who as an actor had a number of bit parts in shows like Party of Five, Mad About You and Living Single, directed Tierney in the 2001 film Scotland, Pa. His missus played a Lady Macbeth-type villainess (named Pat McBeth, actually) who helps her husband configure a plan to murder his boss. Macbeth-style ironic tragedy ensues. After her ER shift ended this season, Tierney starred opposite Eric McCormack in the off-Broadway play Some Girls. The 41-year-old actress' film credits include Liar Liar, Primal Fear and Primary Colors, and she starred on NewsRadio from 1995 to 1999. She scored an Emmy nomination for ER in 2001. Per IMDb.com, Tierney also has two indie films in the works--The Go-Getter, costarring Zooey Deschanel and Jena Malone, and the coming-of-age comedy Diggers, with Paul Rudd and Lauren Ambrose.
