Krankor 0 Report post Posted October 13, 2005 Ok quit being sons of bitches all of you. You just lay into a guy for that has a different opinion. Then you bitch about how he should have posted more during regular season. All of you quit being stupid fucks. Talk about god damn baseball. A few people have tried to get this thread on track. Can we talk about Mark Buehrle throwing 99 pitches in nine innings and then most likely completing a tenth now? Buehrle was a stud out there. He was sitting the Angels down faster as the game went on. I could have seen him lasting at least 2 innings longer. Even though Escobar gave up the run at the end he was pitching damn well. I could have seen him lasting quite a while if the game didn't end in the 9th. Remember, it's the catcher's responsibility to make sure the runner is out before he runs to the dugout. The ump called for strike 3 but I never saw him punch the batter out. Let alone say out. I saw him call the strike but that was it. You can bitch all you want but the other umps backed the call up. After the play was over, an even bigger error I saw was not trying to keep a pinch runner from stealing the base and getting in scoring position. You have got to make a play there and try to keep the guy on first or throw him out.
Guest Report post Posted October 13, 2005 I'll get it back on track, but I stand by what I said. Buehrle could have lasted past the 10th inning, but I don't know if the game would have went too much longer because the Angels bullpen is gassed. The only thing about the umpiring situation that I'll say is that Escobar should have made a better pitch to Crede, and none of this would be an issue. The Ghost of bps21 0 Report post Posted October 13, 2005 It's still an issue. Even with that bad pitch...there are 2 outs with one man on in the bottom of the ninth. That's a lot different then game over.
Guest Report post Posted October 13, 2005 True. But Escobar did leave the ball out over the plate for Crede. That could have been a mental lapse as a result of the call. We'll never know what would have happened. Looking back, K-Rod probably should have been in the game.
Krankor 0 Report post Posted October 13, 2005 I thought Brendan Donnelly should have pitched another inning. His stuff looked good and he's always been solid. I don't know if he warmed up too long in the pen or not. I didn't see when exactly he started throwing. The umpiring wasn't the greatest in the 9th. With a play like that confussion is going to happen. I think everyone on the Angels thought it was legit when they saw the catcher take off for the dugout and toss the ball back to the mound. This all wouldn't even have mattered if early on in the game Rowand wouldn't have been greedy and attempted to take home on the triple he had. More than likely he would have scored on at least a sacrifice. The Sox need to get their heads into the game more.
Precious Roy 0 Report post Posted October 13, 2005 The Sox need to get their heads into the game more. I think that's something we can all agree on. They've played sloppy, while the Angels are in a zone coming out of the tough series with NY. By all rights Chicago should be down 2-0, and the caught a big break here. There are no excuses if they don't take advantage of it.
Guest TheDon Report post Posted October 13, 2005 MLB better start making umpires accountable for their horrible bad calls so far in this playoffs. This is the fourth of fifth horrible call since last friday.
alfdogg 0 Report post Posted October 13, 2005 I said this at NMB, but I'd hope if the Halos were to drop all three games at home now that people would then have enough sense not to point to this one call as the reason they lost. Because that scenario happening is the only thing I see possibly preventing it...the series can't go back to Chicago in any fashion.

Slayer 0 Report post Posted October 13, 2005 This seems similar to the Jeffrey Maier incident in that, had the right call been made, the Angels would take a 2-0 lead back home, just like the Orioles could have taken a 2-0 lead back to Baltimore, and things might have turned out fairly different that year

The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted October 13, 2005 "They had to"="he's a homer who doesn't know anything" Right <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Wait, St. Gabriel of Djibouti = Hawk Harrelson? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> He disappears for long stretches, then reappears only to make some incoherent rambling remark about how the White Sox are the best. Hey! I do believe you are on to something! It is Hawk Harrelson! Maybe during all those scary 7th innnings when Darrin Jackson is fending for himself, Hawk is on TSM! The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted October 13, 2005 Yes, because calling me Hawk Harrelson is an Insult Well you wouldn't like it if I called you a comatose redneck homer with an overrated career, the great judgment to fire Tony La Russa during a one-year abortion of a GM stint, and as much variation in your speech as a pull-string doll, but that's more to type. There was no guarantee either team would score in the next few innings, so there is no way to say either would have won. I don't know if everyone noticed, but the score was tied, because everyone seems to act as if the game was guaranteed to the Angels. Neither team has been a fountain of offense so far. USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted October 13, 2005 I hope people have the sense not to blame this play as being the play to turn the series around. Both the Sox and Angels have to win 3 more games to advance, so hopefully they play good baseball for the rest of the series without questionable calls like that, and then this will be forgotten...hopefully. If not, just blame Paul and the Angels.

If it was allowed to fall, its an out. Bmore won Game 2, so they "could have taken a 2-0 back to Baltimore" like the original poster said. Maybe, maybe not. BruiserKC 0 Report post Posted October 13, 2005 Judging from the play, it looked like it was tough to call. It's like a trapped ball in the outfield or when a wide receiver traps the football and you have to decide right then, did it hit the ground or didn't it? I don't knock Pierzynski for making the dash to first...he's playing heads-up ball and if he hadn't heard the ump saying that was the third out. And as a catcher from the days of Little League and high school the rule for me was always, "When in doubt on a third strike, tag the runner or throw to the base." Scioscia also showed a lot of class, he could have ripped the umps a new one but it's past, they're going back to Cali and their work is cut out for them. Finally, the umps though shouldn't have acted like they knew the call when it really seemed like they didn't. Then again, if I know the official's names, they're not doing their jobs correctly. Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted October 15, 2005 Yeah, I thought that was weird. He exclaimed "Konerko!" before he even made contact with the ball.
