Give Stinkoman the Akira virus for a REAL good time. Snicker. Very good cartoon, but the hidden McEnroe bit is godly.

The One And Only 24 Season 3 Thread
Edwin MacPhisto replied to Spicy McHaggis's topic in Television & Film
Three years into the future! Palmer lives! Principal Robin Wood is his brother! Kim's functional! And getting railed by Jack's partner! Jack's insane, even moreso than last year! And he's kickin' drugs to the curb! The reveal of the tattoo on his arm was wicked. Evil Mexicans! A disappointing level of non-violence to start us out after last year's opening killfest, but they had a lot to do. Everyone's sick, it seems, which adds a cool, weird parallel tension to the stories already. I'm really excited to see Palmer back. I'd kept myself totally unspoiled and thought they were going to have him die from the assassination attempt. I love this show. -

What level psych class is this? You're in high school, right? If it's just a high school psych class, you could probably get away with just talking about how promos and heelish actions during a feud are a sort of operant conditioning, where the observers get a personal investment and become conditioned to want a counterbalancing response, i.e. the face getting one up on the heel. You could also discuss how heel turns have really big effects on fans because of the cognitive dissonance created: we've been cheering Shawn Michaels as a super-cool babyface for years, and then he sends his friend Jannetty through a window, and we as viewers are torn between cheering and recognizing the fault he's actually committed. Your best bet is probably just to take a few general things like that and run with them. It wouldn't work in college seminars but it'll sure as hell be creative and solid for a high school course.

You're only a sophomore, so you have plenty of time to do a major from scratch and get that Geology thing going. Take what you want for next semester, the calc and everything, to see if you can get through it, and take an English course as well so you won't fall behind if you decide against going to Geology. If you do go Geology, then you've read a few good books and written a few good papers next semester. No big loss there. If you go English, you haven't gotten out of practice and you're in good shape to finish in the 4 semesters you have left.

Great ep. I'm really digging the "give Fred lots of time" thing, because she's really coming into her own as one of the most fun, interesting characters on the show. No longer is she just "chick Wesley and Gunn both want." This was definitely the best ep so far; a nice mix of monster-of-the-week and continuity, with some excellent camerawork. I've always loved the stuff Steven S. DeKnight has done with both shows, and this ep really felt complete. Guess that's what you get when the writer directs his own script. -
And I thought it was just ridiculous rumors. Ouch.

Hooray. Very clever merging of what we all saw in the storyline with "King's bad back" and "putzy Mark hurts his leg running the ropes." You heard me, ya big putz. I continue to love these things. -
Well, as if we needed further proof, you're now officially the scariest motherfucker in the WF. Why must you always be with the killing and the ass-rending? And tattos of SCARINES on YOUR FACE? Jesus that's hardcore. I fear for all of you. ::enjoys retirement home rocking chair and lemonade::

I saw the second MSG show (Friday the 10th) and was actually a bit disappointed. A lot of the show was great. Getting incredible performances of "Airbag," "No Surprises," and "Talk Show Host" that I just didn't expect was superb. "Myxomatosis" and "The Gloaming" shimmered and thundered. But man, a big let down in a lot of other ways. First off: how they're treating the Hail to the Thief material. Those two tracks were great, but the rest was mostly dull studio retreads. "Scatterbrain," "Sail to the Moon," and "Punch Up" were dull as rocks - you could have played them right off the record and gotten the same effect. It's cool for nostalgia pieces like "Just," but boo-urns on not playing around with your current stuff. Then there were issues of organizing the setlist. I mean, come on: you go out and play "Creep," one of the hugest, most anthemic songs of the 90's, and then I'm supposed to give a shit about "Scatterbrain"? Then the dearth of Amnesiac. Only "You and Whose Army," ignoring a bunch of great, freaky arrangements. Sure, half that album's crap, but half of it's brilliant. The best performances of the night were the freaked-out start-stop of "Talk Show Host," and the electro-insanity of "The National Anthem" and "Everything in its Right Place." It's most interesting to see what they do with their varied arrangements live, and the best of the material they've put out on Kid A and Amnesiac is ideal for that. Another huge problem was how they transitioned between songs - lights back up on stage, roadies bring on new guitars, etc. Why break the mood like that? They had a great thing going so many times, and so many times they just let it fizzle out. Half of the fun in a band like Radiohead is the weird, murky, dark pretension - leave the lights out a bit, eh? Of course, this all sounds more negative than it should. I did have a really good, if not transcendental time, and I'm incredibly glad I got to see them perform, if only for the 7 or 8 stunning individual songs they pulled off. It just didn't quite hold up to the standard of a lot of other shows I've seen. Oh, and check out 58hours.com for a setlist database of this tour and everything before it. It's really well organized - charts how often songs have been played on tour and has everything very up to date.

Tonight's episode was awful. Just boring, dull, and all very surface for anyone who's been keeping tabs of the Whedonverse for any length of time. It was all basic werewolf business and...yeah, lame. I was entirely unimpressed. Fred, however, continues to look remarkably great every week, and next week might be good. Chalk this one up as missed opportunity. -
Thor ain't got shit on me and my hat. Though I honestly think anyone who says Bo isn't the scariest looking motherfucker sitting on that stack of cannonballs or whatever is a nutcase.

DAMN YOUS VA'AIGA!!! Just skimmed the show, but that really stuck out as the bomb. Bastard! Though, honestly, the insanity we might get out of some Va'aiga/Dace matches is probably worth falling to the dark side. BASTARD! -
::uncrunches neck:: ::grabs Raynor:: SCRAMBLLLLE! In real things: super cool show. The active reunion of Justice and Rule as a tag team is great and a really good place for both guys to go right now - Ejiro is still rocking and riding as US champ after Genesis, but Judge could use a little rebound after his world title contendership. These characters are to the point where they're flexible enough to stay strong in singles but still be awesome in tags. I approve. Also, I can't give big enough praise to Dace for a huge win. Two weeks, two first-time World title challengers? Looks good to me.

Damn you Beth Gibbons, just go record the new Portishead album. The only thing I'm really interested in on here is the Soul Position album. Rjd2 rocks the socks.

You would be correct. I looked ahead on the TNT schedule, and when I checked last week it looks like they're just going to be showing season 4 eps once a week in this slot...not bad at all. -

Well, considering you write 20,000 word roleplays and never get anywhere with those, I'm not surprised. OH SNAP EAT A BAG OF DIIIIICKS~!
-
Coherence is overrated. When I went for this last year and failed miserably, what I was writing was mostly random-ass drivel with the slightest of narrative threads. When you're pumping out over 1500 words a day you can't really be too concerned with quality. It's all about quantity and somehow not getting carpal tunnel. Speaking of which, next story due Thursday...dammit.

You know, I thought it would take longer than 3 minutes for the joke. You've done well, Mole. Carry on.
-
It's the biggest, longest-running, actual content-based thread on the board. And it's about a show that has its fair share of lumpy-faced dudes. Lumpy + long = recipe for success.

Listening to all of the Stooges' Fun House, halfway through the title track right now. It takes on a certain presence at 3 am, it does.

That was superb. Opening promo - which I think Mark wrote - came off just how I thought it should. Other highlights of the night: I laughed very hard. The whole Johnny/WC angle has just gotten a whole lot better, and it was pretty good to begin with. As far as huge ongoing stories go, this has been one of the best. The whole notion of Judge setting this up back when the tag titles were an issue is also a great one, a sort of "mastermind" angle that isn't too convoluted. I would mark so hard if this ended in an ultimate tag match, the W&D vs. J&R match that we always wanted to see but never quite got. Speaking of tag teams...Sinquizition! Another cool angle - the whole "passing off a tag title" thing works well. Quiz and Show were great as goofy guys, but the potential for Duran to be straight-man here might be even better. Also, getting the motherfucking Mike Patton & Dillinger Escape Plan song as your new music is GODLY, and much, much more suited to Duran than that namby-pamby Price is Right shite. Excellent work. And also speaking of tag teams...B-C-DUB! B-C-DUB! I thought Thoth was joking but apparently he was NOT. Double Jeopardy gets a little more serious and suddenly two guys step up to fill the void. ALSO on tag note: Ejiro's press conference was great for him as a singles guy, but also awesome to get the official word that he and Judge will probably be teaming up again sometime in the future. With the Trinity still floating around too, our tag division continues to be one of the real highlights of the fed. Lots and lots of promos - I've typed enough so I'll let other people talk about 'em. I do want to note, though, some quality character work on the part of Taamo to start squaring Flesher up as a face. After the promo with King and all the potshots Ejiro and Craven took at him, I think it's going to work, and well. With Tom as face champ, there are suddenly a ton of challengers for that shiny-ass belt.
