Man, I'm starting to think you're Eagan.

The CFL playoffs start this Sunday, culminating with the 91st Grey Cup game November 16 in Regina. The Eastern Division semi-final between the Argonauts and Lions going at 4 PM ET in Toronto with the winner playing at Olympic Stadium in Montreal next week against the Alouettes. Also, the Western Division semi-final between the Blue Bombers and the Roughriders at 7 PM ET in Winnipeg with that winner of that game going on to play Edmonton. Predictions: In the East, it really depends on what Toronto team shows up. They can be quite good (like they were against Montreal a few weeks back) or they can be really bad (like they had been against Ottawa the game before). I think BC will beat them, though, and go on to lose to Montreal in the East final. Out West, I have a feeling that Saskatchewan will beat the Bombers but lose in the West final to Edmonton, bringing about a rematch of last year's Grey Cup game. Edmonton will probably win, continuing the recent trend of teams winning the Grey Cup the year after their city hosts the game (Montreal last year, Calgary the year before that, and BC in 2000).

The One and Only A Minute with Stan Hooper thread
treble replied to bob_barron's topic in Television & Film
I'll probably watch. I hope it's good, as Global's Wednesday night line-up of That 70s Show, Stan Hooper, and then Gilmore Girls will be a good way to kill 2 hours. Cable, who needs it? -
The dog bite on the breast was funny. I hate sites like that, though, if only because I'm curious as to see what some of the pictures look like, but I know I don't have the stomach for it.

What? Every match on it was solid from top to bottom and one of them was fucking awesome (the 6 man). Two were pretty good, the triple threat and RVD/storm. But nothing was really bad. The only other PPV I can say that for is Canadian Stampede. And plus it was the start of ECW. The 6 man was awesome, but the rest of a show was a letdown. RVD/Storm is decent, but features some of the weakest chairshots ever seen, Dudleyz/Eliminators is nothing special, ditto for Taz/Sabu, Pitbull/Douglas, and Raven/Funk. The triple threat match is ok, but not enough to save the show.

I predict within a month, everyone will start liking Damaramu. I call it 'The Johnson Effect'.

Will they be able to pull off a sequel? I think it would be pretty hilarious if they went the Joe Millionaire route and found some random European dude to fuck around with.
-
I laughed.

SummerSlam 2000? That would have trouble cracking the top 5 WWF PPVs of that YEAR, let alone top 10 PPVs ever. Barely Legal isn't very good, either.

Why the hell is everyone so obsessed with Scott Keith? You're just feeding his ego with all this bullshit.
-
That's mostly because the lack of a DH in the National League makes it more difficult to fill your lineup with players with high OBP.

What the hell's a 'severed lip'?

I'd take Prior over Wood. Of course, I'd take Halladay over anyone else, but I'm biased.

I like having the +/- in there, just for the unpredictability of it. Good job, Rant.

Not enough cleavage in that dress. What was Vince supposed to look at during the ceremony?

I think they've talked about putting FieldTurf (or something like it) in SkyDome, but old fashioned Astroturf is the easiest thing to use considering how many different events are held there and how the conversion process takes place. Same reason they didn't put it in Olympic Stadium when they put in a new surface a few years back, even though I believe it was offered to them for free (I think the inventor or creator or whatever is from Montreal).

Thank you. I'll call up Toronto City Hall tomorrow and tell them to start planning the parade route.

A small part? He blew a game single handedly! When you only have four games to lose, that's huge. Fuck that. That's like saying Gonzalez singlehandedly won the game just because he hit the game winning home run. Weaver played a part in the loss, but you can't lay the entire blame all on him.

If Vlad can't stay in Montreal, I hope he ends up out west somewhere, preferably in the NL where he can't hurt the Jays. Personally, I think MLB should try and get him locked down to a 1 year contract for the around the same as he made in 2003. He singlehandedly raises the value of the franchise, both to potential buyers and to fans in Montreal.

I never said you shouldn't be upset that they lost. I'm saying that if you're wishing death upon someone who was only a small part in the loss than you're an ungrateful whiner who doesn't deserve to be a fan of a team that's been as successful as the Yankees.

The Als are huge in Montreal right now. They've sold out every game for the past 4 or 5 years (granted, the stadium is rather small [>20,000]) and even though they didn't make the Grey Cup that year, the game was at Olympic Stadium in 2001 and it drew over 65,000 (the 2nd biggest Grey Cup crowd ever), plus they drew over 50,000 for the East Division final at the Big O last year and will probably draw that again this year. The Habs are still big in Montreal, but the city loves football right now, which is surprising, given that they lost their team in the late 80s and were drawing flies after they came back in '96 before moving to Molson Stadium at McGill.

Mik, can you start a 'Toronto Maple Leafs for the Stanley Cup' thread, please? You seem to be good luck, or something.
