Hrmm... I thought for a second that you were going to go into a takeoff of Highway 61 there... -

That happened to me at the 'Fuck, Bo: I thought the match was due a week before it was actually due. -
Fear not, Golden State; you still have the opportunity to become the first team ever to finish sixteen games over five-hundred and not make the playoffs...

I'd have been very alarmed if she had said under thirty...

Clubber Lang, any predictions on what the Hawks can expect in the first round? Pain.

I'm personally against seeing star players win it all early in their careers, as a matter of principle; it just seems like a bigger deal to me when you see someone who has had to struggle for years, trying and failing, finally win it... My sentimental pick would be for it to be Houston and Boston in the Finals, with Houston pulling out the major upset to finally get Coach Adelman his championship. But, all things being equal, I'd be happy with either Detroit or Boston versus anybody in the West not named the Lakers.

I thought it was because they probably think that she's too similar to Beth Phoenix in general.

Precious Roy's post reminds me of something else I hate about sports talk radio: athletes being interviewed. Most of them are utterly insipid, and have nothing whatsoever to say worth listening to. That's one of the main reasons I became a Kornheiser fan: even when he did a mostly sports show, he never interviews athletes because they almost never have anything worthwile to say. And, even when there's something interesting to talk about, they're usually so inarticulate, it's painful to listen to.

That statement might resonate more with me, Xero, if it weren't for the fact that I never liked hockey in the first place.
-
Average =/= bad. None of those teams you mentioned played bad defense. Even a very good offensive team has to play "good enough" defense. If offense won championships, you could hand the trophy to the Warriors.

Okay, but you live in Chicago, right? And you like the Bulls, Cubs, etc? The nearest pro sports teams to me are in DC, and I could give a rat's ass about all of them. They have minor league baseball and hockey here, and I can't fucking stand either of them. And, of course, the wretched college teams in Hampton Roads that I couldn't care less about. National >>>>> the alternative, at least for me.

I'm interested to see whether Saeed can keep that getup on in the ring, or are they going to have Kong basically work handicap style, ala Demolition/Colossal Connection at WM6?

Interesting; I go the other way on that... I think that sports talk in general is horrid, but if you're going to listen to it, at least listen to somebody national; local sports meatheads are wretched, probably ninety-nine percent of the time... and, if you're like me, and don't actually care about the sports teams closest to where you live at, one hundred percent of the time. I listened to the first week of Patrick's new show, but found it not to my taste. Rome would be tolerable, if it weren't for the jackoffs that call in and email his show. Tirico's about as good as you're likely to find on ESPN these days; Cowherd, if you don't like football (and I don't), is insufferable. I've been a fan of Kornheiser's show since '99. And I love the fact that, since he left ESPN, he only spends around 15-20 minutes out of a two-hour program actually talking about sports. Of course, I could do without all the Idol chatter (pun intended), but you've got to take the bitter with the sweet, I guess...

I didn't say best defense, or elite defense. I'm talking about teams that can't play defense. You suggested that the saying "defense wins championships" is some kind of meme that isn't backed up by the league's history; I challenge you to prove that to be false. I'm not asking you to name me a team that wasn't one of the top 2-3 defensive teams that won, I'm asking you to name me a bad defensive team that won. Who was the last team that wasn't at least in the top third of the league in defense to win a championship?
-
I can't imagine a movie being less watchable by the presence of Jessica Alba... I won't be seeing this in the theatre, though.
-
And the last NBA Championship team that couldn't play defense was who?

Since they seem to be intent on having Lethal and Dutt feud over So-Cal Val/the X-Division title, they should have given Dutt a Hogan-esque gimmick, and then they could have had "Black Machismo" Jay Lethal versus "Bollywood" Sonjay Dutt: the Micro-powers explode! -

Good. Any show where Mya gets cheated shouldn't be allowed to continue, anyway. -
Fisherwoman's suplex? And I guess I've been futiliely holding out hope that JR would mention the irony of Crime Time's first match back being against Cade and Murdoch.

Well, it would be really weird if I had someone in my list of ten favorite artists and didn't have any of their albums in my draft. And, since someone already took the best album he did (or my favorite, at least), I guess I'll take the second best: Michael Jackson - Off the Wall Like I said before, I'm not a huge fan of the second half of the album, but the first half is nothing but classics.
