How about the fact that they basically paid Phoenix to draft a player for them that would have almost definitely still been there with their next pick? So they acquired another first round pick that Phoenix was willing to just give away. What's wrong with that? Nothing's "wrong" with it; I'm just pointing out that they could have gotten Rodriguez with the 30th pick. They probably could have gotten him in the second round, and not have to pay him as much money. I think that the notion of them paying what they paid for a player that they probably could have gotten at half the price is silly.

Call him an idiot if you like, but I happen to agree with him. I think that he had it exactly right: Portland made moves that they didn't have to make, in order to get players that they probably would have been able to get anyway.
