  1. I chose 1982 arbitrarily. You can select your own cut-off date.
  2. You know all that hesher stuff was a joke, right. I wasn't actively looking for them or forward to them. They were there, though. Oh, yes, they were.
  3. I like to pretend Ozzy died in '82. Makes listening to early Sabbath a whole lot easier.
  4. I'd say only six-or-seven of the people at the venue were genuine heshers (and four of them were sporting denim jackets with large "Satan's Acquaintance" patches on the back). One of the non-jacket wearing heshers (though he had a faded Pantera shirt) kept trying to get a pit going early on with little luck; eventually, he was helped out by a really short man who ran from the back of the club for what I guess was the sole purpose of starting a pit. That's when a dozen more people jumped in. They were a good, very receptive bunch, overall. Only a handful of people seemed to know who the Melvins were, though, judging from the lack of reaction when one of the band's singers introduced the song.
  5. Well, that was awesome. After getting off to a kind of flat start, Mastodon found their groove in the third song, which is where they hooked me. These guys are nuts—their drummer, particularly; dude was throwing all sorts of crazy jazz accents in there. Plus, they ended with a Melvins cover, which put them even higher in my book. As for the openers, I arrived too late for Cult of Luna, but just in time for the start of Death by Stereo's set. Awful metalcore band, with the only redeeming moment being when the singer introed a song by yelling at the audience, "I want everyone to flip me off right now! I want to feel your anger! I want to feel your rage ARUGHGGHHHGUUGGHGHH!" Ridiculous.
  6. Oh man, the Tea Party. Canadians still take them seriously?
  7. Didn't I drunk dial you last night and tell that I was? What sucks is I'll be going alone, which I generally don't like doing. Ah well.
  8. The majority of which haven't been used in over two years.
  9. Goddammit, over 2/3 of my old gimmicks were deleted in the board purge, thus rendering me unable to skew the results for my own amusement. One time, in some "coolest TSM poster" poll, I gave Banky—who really, really didn't want to win—ten extra votes. Good times.
  10. Xiu Xiu has one song I really like—"Apistat Commander"—and a bunch I really don't like. I might've enjoyed their take on "Ceremony," but after Galaxie 500's version, why bother.
  11. Xiu Xiu bores the shit out of me.
  12. Yep. And Mastodon played Ohio two weeks ago, so your dates are off, Ill.
  13. That was a lame reason to ban Flik, but he sucked, so I don't know how to feel.
  14. I like---->love seven of those acts (not counting Will Oldham, since he's only doing a dj set). I'd consider going, if I lived in Chicago; my feelings on the webzine holding it are completely irrelevant.
  15. I'm pitifully immature at heart.
  16. They're playing with Cult of Luna and Death By Stereo. A friend of mine who knows a lot about all things metal/hardcore says he's never heard of the former and that he thinks I won't like the latter. He also mentioned that there might be a fair amount of hardcore kids in the crowd. And Sensei John Kreese is a moron, don't you think.
  17. Don't you and I live in completely different states? I don't even know this Southgate House place.
  18. I got sex out of myspace, so it's cool with me.
  19. Yeah, it's a nice little tune.
  20. I've recently realized I can no longer listen to Tortoise. Why did I ever like these guys? So boring.
  21. Hey, the Birthday Party didn't do Funhouse.
  22. Metal Ed was a hesher. And who voted "nah." Do you have a reason, or were you simply being a contrarian?
