My recent immersion in The Wire has inspired me to use more slang—both cop and street—in daily conversation. For instance, I have suction with the head of my department. "To have suction with" was a concept alien to me prior to watching this show.

I went out, ate and had a few drinks with some friends, but they we're all "hey, let's go to a club" and I was all "hey, I'm going to go home and have a quiet night of reflection and reading." Which was better than saying what I knew I'd end up doing: drinking some more, listening to some music and dicking around on the internet.

Also, got a Barnes & Noble gift card for Christmas. I'd like to pick up some hardcover books, but I cannot think of any recent releases I've a desire to get. I considered Junot Diaz's The Brief, Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, but my roommate got it for Christmas so I'll probably borrow it once he's read it. Still, as far as hardcovers go, there's always the hc editions of books under the Modern Libray line or Everyman Library line, but I don't know how much I'll find at the store. Paperbacks it is, then.

I'm probably not going to read it anytime soon. Maybe in the summer. I started Cormac McCarthy's The Crossing yesterday. 100+ pages into it and it is a strong effort so far, but not up there with his very best novels.

I wish I had saved the aim conversations . He was just like he was on the board.

Newfoundlands seem cool, but they're far too big for my apartment. My dog is about 20 pounds and terrier-sized, so I'm looking for something either that size or not too much larger. I love bassets, but I don't know about getting one anytime soon.
