  1. Speaking of shitty tv shows, anyone want to buy my two Get a Life dvds? Rare! Out of print! I have them both up on ebay!
  2. Upon reflection, I find myself more forgiving of Against the Day's flaws, and have actually considered rereading it. But man, that's 1100 pages. Not to say the experience wasn't worthwhile, because it was. That said, Against the Day is an "easier" read than Gravity's Rainbow.
  3. A couple of times the chicken was overcooked. The skin was a dark, ruddy brown.
  4. Earlier this evening, someone from the 843 area code (Charleston, SC) sent me a picture text message. The resolution on the photo was lousy, so I had no idea what I was looking at, even with the caption stating "Bam, turn it sideways." I turned it sideways and I still hadn't a clue what it was. Did Kotz send it? I don't have his new number, so I can only assume.
  5. I'm sure I've expressed this before, but The Plot Against America is wonderful book nearly ruined by that ridiculous deux ex machina that unfolds in the the last 30-something pages. This week, I'm going to start that War and Peace I recently acquired. It's my goal to have it finished by the end of the year. I think I can I think I can I think I can. When I do, it'll officially be the longest book I've ever read. (This edition, minus all the supplemental material, is 1215 pages long. It'll beat out my previous record holder, the 1085 page Against the Day. [However, if the 90+ pages of endnotes at the end of Infinite Jest were converted to 10- or 12-point font, it'd likely surpass the Pynchon novel in terms of length.])
  6. Internet phone? Does he have an iPhone?
  7. When's Kotz coming back to the other place, Czech. You said he would.
  8. Though I had previously seen and held a copy in a bookstore, having this new, hardcover version of War and Peace in my home really impresses me with just how large it is. It's nearly four pounds!
  9. So, tracking my delivery last night, I realized that I had put down the wrong home address—I had entered a conflation of my current and previous address (don't know where my mind was when I did that)—and that my order was being returned to the seller. Not wanting to deal with the hassle of straightening out the address/getting back the package, I called up Amazon's support and cancelled the order. This morning, the order arrived at my door, anyway. I'd already been refunded the $35, so I got these books for free. This ever happen to anyone?
  10. Thank God for Metallica!
  11. The embarassingly misguided appropriation of "nigger" in that song is another reason I hate her. Christ, what a stupid bitch.
  12. The Adventures of Teencandenza! I'm insulted. I was never so stupid as to be sold fake weed.
  13. Jon, you know we're bros, but I don't look to you for book recs.
  14. Boxing Day isn't celebrated in the states and is largely unheard of outside of regular readers of For Better or For Worse. Also, Americans like specific days to celebrate/start things, so why not the day after Thanksgiving to kick off the holiday shopping season?
  15. Panera has good broccoli cheddar soup, but the sandwiches are only okay. Their breakfast is pretty lousy.
  16. Man, I hate Patti Smith. What a cunt.
  17. To be fair, I never saw what sure-to-be-hilarious picture you meant to post, you bandwidth-stealing douche nozzle.
  18. That W&P is a brand new translation in a nice-looking hardcover. It lists for $37, so I'm already getting a deal on it. Also, for personal preference, getting it in hardcover was important, too. Books that size don't physically hold together as well in paperback.
  19. Every post in this thread is terrible, be the intent genuine or sarcastic.
  20. What's great is you can see no one's downloading any of these songs.
  21. I recently ordered, from Amazon, the following: $35.30 w/ free shipping. I decided I needed to get serious about the Russian masters.
