Buddy Rich and Miles Davis are my favorite jazz artists. I like a lot of Dave Brubeck as well. Maynard Ferguson is a fantastic player if you can look past the fact that he did some pretty cheesy stuff in the 70s. Don Ellis is pretty obscure, but he wrote this great song called "Strawberry Soup" that is like 17 minutes of just crazy orchestral jazz. I can send you that. Can't go wrong with Zappa's big three jazz albums: Hot Rats, Waka/Jawaka, and The Grand Wazoo.
