I think Edmonds, Rolen, and Pujols were all much more deserving of the MVP than Bonds. I'm going against Moneyball here and saying FUCK on-base percentage. The three Cardinals earned it by busting their asses all season long. Bonds drew intentional walks. If I was a menacing black man with needles up my ass that made me hit baseballs into the stratosphere, I could just stand there and draw intentional walks from chicken-shit pitchers too. The three Cardinals were just outstanding baseball players in all respects. Bonds took intentional walks and hit home runs. He was no outstanding fielder. As worthless as the Giants are without Bonds, imagine how worthless the Cardinals would have been without Edmonds, Rolen, and Pujols. Bonds didn't earn this one.

This. THIS is the reason it's a women's rights issue. Women do not choose to be raped. Also, if a man and woman are sexually active and the woman gets pregnant, the man can choose to tuck tail and run at anytime and abandon his responsibilities. A woman does not have the right to do that. THIS is why it's a women's rights issue. You raise good points there. I had a loophole there for allowing abortion for rape cases. What I was referring to were women who just decide five months in "I don't want a kid any more." Also, I have no respect for guys who get girls pregnant and bail. That's fucking low.

The fetus is a living thing well before birth. Come on. I feel that abortion is an awful thing, but because we can't get rid of it, it's necessary to legalize it in the best interests of the woman's safety. If for whatever reason, the pregnancy has to be terminated, it's preferable to have a licensed physician perform the procedure than to forbid it outright, and end up with somebody poking around there with a coat hanger. That being said, I think partial-birth abortion is a disgusting practice, and especially wrong. If we're to have abortions, it should be limited to the first trimester only, or before the first movement of the fetus (16-18 weeks). And from there, abortion should be limited to cases in which it's necessary (rape, incest, health). Women have the right to choose, but they have to make their choice before conception.

Again, no, Calgary was safely locked into contention as the season was winding down. It was St. Louis, Nashville, Edmonton, and Los Angeles that were going at it for 7 and 8 down to the wire. I don't think Nashville clinched until their final game.

Lake Geneva is about 6 miles from the state line. Half the city is from Chicago, and we get all the Chicago broadcast stations (2, 5, 7, 9, 11, 32). I'm at school in DeKalb right now, a safe 50 miles south of the state line. EDIT: Also my family is probably moving back to Arlington Heights soon because Wisconsin sucked.

Maybe Packers-Vikings is that Red Sox-Yankees bitter spiteful hate, and Packers-Bears is that Cubs-Cardinals good-natured drunken hate. But still, no Packer fans in my part of Wisconsin (state line) were ever like "Bears game. Meh. I'm waiting for the Vikings next week"

It's still a big rivalry, of course, because it actually means something, but people always seemed to get much more into the games against the Bears. And of course for us Bears fans, beating Green Bay is everything.

psst! Tampa Bay was the best team in the East for the regular season! As much as I resent the concept of the Tampa Bay Lightning as the Stanley Cup winners, Richards, Lecavalier, St. Louis, and Khabibulin are the real deal. And I think Calgary was a different beast than Carolina and Anaheim. The Flames were always floating aroudn the 4-7 spots in the standings, I think. Also, bear in mind that the teams ahead of them in the division were #3 Vancouver and #4 Colorado, so it's not like they had a cakewalk to a divisional title like the Hurricanes did with such esteemed competition as the Thrashers, Panthers, Capitals, and Lightning (at the time, not all that good yet). Plus, by all accounts from people more familiar with the game of hockey than I, Kiprusoff posted the numbers that he did because he's a good goaltender, not because he wore obscenely gigantic pads like Giguere.
