Should they change the NBA playoffs
The Czech Republic replied to The Czech Republic's topic in Sports
Geez, there's only two days between games for NHL and NBA now. It's game, travel, game, travel, and so on, now that everything is best of 7. Hockey is an exhausting sport, and you need some time to get the ice ready. You just can't play playoff-caliber games without days off: case in point Toronto and Philadelphia last year. Due to some weird scheduling with the venues, Games 6 and 7 had to be right after each other. Leafs played their hearts out in Game 6 but by Game 7 they were so burned out that they just disintegrated. But hey, if you want your Stanley Cup playoffs on crappy ice with really sluggish skaters, then let them get it done in a month. -
5.30? But that was when TNT would show The Little Rascals. A weird programming thing by them, immortalized in an episode of the Simpsons: Marge: Homer, why are you up so early? The Little Rascals isn't on until 5. Homer: I know. I'm taping it. I have to go.

When Nitro would have the big overruns, where would TNT get back on track? Let's say Nitro is supposed to go 7 to 9. Tony Schiavone says they got permission to go another 23 minutes, so Nitro ends at 9.23. Thunder (Thu-thu-thunder... thunder) in Paradise (anything can happen) runs frm 9.23 to 10.23 then. Nitro replay from 10.23 to 12.46. How do they get back on schedule by Tuesday morning? Cut a program short? Some of those "Rough Cut" things? I forgot.

The Jazz will take over the Longest Consecutive Playoff Streak In The Big 4 spot if the Blazers and Blues don't make it.

I thought this was track from the thread and was gonna be like "I think Jim Thorpe's been dead for a while." That's a lot of fucking bullshit. Ian Thorpe can beat everyone. He could do it nine times. NBC should enter him as a spnsored wildcard so that people watch the swimming events. And if NBC can't do that, they should just look at the committee with a cold unblinking stare and say "WE ARE NBC." That oughta convince the little bastards.

Aw yeah. Western Conference, y'all. The conference disparity in the NBA is well documented. The Golden State Warriors that are at the bottom of the West would make the playoffs, albeit in the #8 spot, over in the East. Next year Charlotte gets another try at pro basketball which ups the league to 30 and breaks things up into 6 divisions of 5, finally giving in to the realignment trend after baseball, NHL, and NFL all over-expanded through the 90s. I had this crazy idea that instead of taking the top 8 in the West and the top 8 in the East, they just take all thirty teams, regardless of location, seed the six divisional champions 1-6, and the top 10 wildcard teams 10-16. The last few years, the Western Conference Championships have been seen as "the REAL finals" with Lakers-Kings, Mavericks-Spurs, and the like. With this, the "REAL finals" would in fact be that, as Sacramento, Dallas, L.A., San Antonio, and Minnesota could all meet up in some combination to decide the league's best team, and .500 teams like Utah, Portland, and Denver that are all borderline in the West wouldn't ahve to watch sub-.500 squads like the Cavaliers and Heat make the playoffs. So let's say at the end of the year, we've got these teams leading their divisions: Pacific: Sacramento Northwest: Minnesota Southwest: San Antonio Central: Indiana Atlantic: NY Nets Southeast: Miami If one was to rank these six teams, it'd be Pacers, Kings, T-Wolves, Nets, Spurs, Heat. So they'd get the 1-6 spots in that order. Then your next teams are #7 Pistons, #8 Lakers, #9 Grizzlies, #10 Mavericks, #11 Rockets, #12 Jazz, #13 Nuggets, #14 Trail Blazers, #15 Hornets, and #16 Bucks. This takes out the Knicks and Celtics in favor of better Western teams. It also makes you realize that a division of the Heat, Magic, Wizards, Hawks, and Bobcats is going to suck some major cock next season. So now you could end up with a whole slew of new combinations in the postseason. Thoughts?

Frankly, I cannot support organized labor. I feel that it does more harm than good. Can this country handle a major strike? I think not. Maybe we need some better collective bargaining going to keep this machine of the people, the people it turns its back on itself, reduced to a minimum.

I can't believe everyone no-sold my prior misconception that somebody was discussing wife-swapping. I thought Drury's wit would catch it for sure. Well...that's my mama!

Sort of my 5000th post Extravaganza!

Bring it back? It lasted 35 minutes! It was only so we could all be like Drury and have taglines. Man was that a fun OAORaw. Thanks for all your congratulations and/or animal sacrifices. -
Mavericks are pissing me off. Dropping games to the Pacers, Sixers, and Heat??? Weak. Weak, guys.

The Ice Storm is an awesome movie, while we're talking about Connecticut and trains and wife-swapping here.

Where does Martin Brodeur rank on the All-time
The Czech Republic replied to Steve J. Rogers's topic in Sports
4. Montreal '86, Montreal '93, Colorado '96, Colorado '01. EDIT: Wait. Were you talking about Brodeur or Roy? If Brodeur, I thought Terreri was in net in 1995. -
From the aforementioned Dinsmore page: "But his biggest singles' match to date came at the hands of the WWE's formidable "Canadian Crippler" Christ Benoit in an OVW Title match at "Christmas Chaos!", Jan. 31, 2001. "

Everybody's talking about Duke losing to Illinois tonight. Dialogue between me and another guy today: Me: Yeah so now that my brackets are so screwed up I want U of I to beat Duke. Him: Dude, everyone's brackets are screwed up. It's so bad we're just giving everyone their money back because nobody can win. Me:....really? They are? Him:...of course somebody's gonna win, ya fucking dumbshit. And it's not gonna be you because everything after your first round picks SUCK. -
Do you guys think Joe Sakic deserves a spot in the Hall? He's got at least another five years left in him, but I think he's a great player who gets forgotten about because of Forsberg, who seems better but gets injured too much and is bolting out of the NHL at the end of the year anyway.

As long as the Bruins never, ever, ever wear those fucking horrible mustard yellow sweaters with the cuddly teddy bear on the front, I couldn't care less if it's white or black at home. It took me a few weeks to get used to, but now it's not a problem for me. Good God yes. The bear isn't mad at all! He just looks depressed. No wonder: he's on that fucking ugly yellow sweater. Wasn't there a yellow version of the traditional B sweater too? That would look weird.

Yankees Future Stars...what do they do, round up the best players from the other 29 rosters? Yeah I'm gonna try to wake up early to watch some of the Japan game, just because it's baseball and I want to see it again. Consider the last game I watched was Cubs losing to Marlins.

I'm sure you're being sarcastic, but it looks like you're saying that there is ANY reason for a man to lay a hand on a woman when she doesn't have a deadly weapon aimed at him. He put his hands on a woman. I've been "attacked" by women before and managed to end the stuation without touching them. That's just the way I was raised. A SOON as your hand touches a woman, you're no longer a man. I'd have to say that Anglesault probably has the most integrity of anybody here. He's somebody I'd trust to hold onto my wallet for a minute for some reason and not have to worry about anything missing.

Freaking Blackhawks are losing to the Wild 7-2! They need to replace Leighton. Is Thibault done for good?
-
Hm. Oilers just got bumped down to 9th due to STL and NSH wins. They'll get back in soon enough. Islanders won, so I think that's it for the Buffalo Sabres.

What's the definition of Modern Era, btw? I think 1967 is what we agree on. -
I grew up with white at home so I like it better. From a local viewer's standpoint it makes perfect sense: your team stays constant while the various road teams are all easily discerned from one another.
-
I hope they switch to white at home for the postseason and end this madness.
