  1. I want to see how Uniter-Not-Divider Rising Star Barack Obama votes! Five dollars says with the party!
  2. If I was an evil land baron, (and I may be one day, I'm workin' on the handlebar and everything) I'd build somewhere that wasn't, you know, a toxin-saturated floodplain
  3. Bring back Claude
  4. Of course. I understand the problems that come with it, but the man can make a case. On unions: I know it's their job to stand up for the teachers, but making them as bulletproof as they are is so ridiculous. My high school principal was reportedly forced out because he was more of an independent arbitrator in teacher/student-parent issues than just automatically assuming the teacher is right. The new man falls right in line, which greatly pleases my school's union, which meets on school grounds during contract hours, a practice I believe is not entirely legal.
  5. Two songs, 20 minutes apiece. "The Fighting Blue Hens Are For You And I" and "Our Incorporation Laws Evade Justice In Some Roundabout Ways." That second one made me laugh heartily. Do Wyoming next You forgot the bonus track: "Our Career Senator Is A Long-Winded Creep" RHCP, good call.
  6. Incidentally, my mom taught special ed over in Woodstock, Ill. until about the late 70s, early 80s, I think, and told me that special ed teachers in her district were actually paid less than regular teachers. Is it still like that? Explain that one to me. Did you see John Stossel's piece on education reform last Friday? He mentioned how the KC school district built an Olympic natatorium, gymnasium, and bought a shitload of laptops with the idea of improving the school...the kids got worse, and the schools lost accreditation. Also, shame on unions. I know it's Stossel, so it's going to have a certain bent, but man, what a shitty bunch of people they can be.
  7. Well, it's relevant given topic of the thread itself, but who am I to chide anyone on staying true a thread's initial intent?
  8. It's not me, guys, if that's what you're thinking.
  9. New Englanders = bored housewives
  10. Jerk, what do you teach, and why is the KC school district so fucking inept
  11. My point was that myself and others had just stated that face-to-face conversation was comfortable but telephone was not, which wasn't really a damning indictment of our reclusiveness. Spoon, I'm ready for your new mixaroonie.
  12. I've heard YFIP and about 3/4 of s/t. I'm approaching this largely with a blank slate.
  13. I just knew you liked them a lot. I was hoping for a more in-depth rebuttal, actually. How do you think they'll end up being remembered? You don't care about what I say? I thought we were friends. EDIT: I'm fond of the brass section arrangements on "Hotel." IF ONLY YOU CARED
  14. I'm amazed at the number of heads that "Greetings From Asbury Park" went over. In addition, Edge-o-Matic is a play on Veg-o-Matic, which was that Ron Popeil product where he said "it slices, it dices," that whole deal. I think it was also the name of one of the fifty finishers the Midnight Express had.
  15. Let the Manny Ramirez four-way trade rumors begin!
  16. Well that doesn't quell the MikeSC rumors at all.
  17. 1 Lincoln 2 Washington 3 TR 4 Jefferson 5 Wilson Not gonna give 10, it's silly to rank 10 of a possible 43.
  18. These threads make me feel like Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer.
  19. I think OKC is a more suitable sports market than New Orleans, though, and with the young core of the Hornets, they can get a few great years of support before things might go sour. Also, it's a one-team town, which the NBA typically does well in. Hornets failed because the Saints have always been their team, they're not subordinate to any other pro teams. Miami will always place the Dolphins above all in a similar fashion. Just have to co-exist with the Sooners
  20. Hey, I asked for Curry's condescending remarks, not yours. YFIP is a very good indie rock album, but I don't think it's going to stand the test of time. Like you even said, they might not even stay around much longer, all sixteen or however many of them. Will millions of people be talking about Broken Social Scene 20 years from now, citing them as primary influences, the way we talk about the Smiths? R.E.M.? Joy Division? U2? I just don't see it. That doesn't mean they're worthless, all sixteen or however many of them. It's just that they're not a lock to stand the test of time. I think we need a Keltner List for albums.
  21. But the NBA has never been a spectacular draw, Jazz and Hornets both. This is the new arena They never really did in Charlotte (Kobe threatened to hold out IIRC), and at least got to the second round. But not all teams have such disparity between the two.
  22. I want him to stick around just to see how he makes an album about Delaware.
  23. Think I could be a good professor? I can rattle off shit I know for 50 straight minutes, I just hate dealing with stupid mooks, who would probably be taking my 100-level US history classes.
