Taking a franchise into space has been done many, many times, with everything from Bugs Bunny to the Muppets to Emmanuelle. If you want to narrow it down so much that a horror film in space has to be a direct imitation of Leprechaun, you should know that Hellraiser was in space that year as well, and Critters had done it five years previous. Interesting side note, Leprechaun, Hellraiser and Critters were all in space in their fourth movie.
