I can't be the only one here who enjoyed his run as The Narcissist? Oh wait...I probably am. But yeah I agree with whoever said that he was best as an arrogant, dickhead heel. Stick with what ya know, amirite?

Wow- I was thinking about going to see How To Lose Friends and Alienate People this week...I guess I better do so if I want to see it in theaters. Even if it does sound like it kind of sucks- Simon Pegg+Jeff Bridges= A discount night movie ticket for me!

I think I'll always have some fondness towards Luger, even though he's mediocre in the ring and on the mic because he main evented the first wrestling show I went to. Amusing side note; his opponent that show? The Fake Undertaker.

WWE 24/7 Classics OnDemand General Discussion
King Kamala replied to DrVenkman PhD's topic in WWE Multimedia
Well I've only seen two matches from '88 (the sweet ten team/twenty man Survivor Series match and the main event). The former is pretty great but that's not a surprise considering that was probably the best tag team roster WWF ever had. The latter was long, dull, and predictable even by '80s Hogan match standards. -

RE: Survivor Series '91. Ric Flair/The Mountie/Ted DiBiase/The Warlord Vs Roddy Piper/Bret Hart/Virgil/Davey Boy Smith is probably the only good match on that show and it has an awful finish. Unfortunately, it's also the opening match so it's all downhill after it. Though I guess The Undertaker/Hogan is interesting for historic purposes. Survivor Series '87 (along with Survivor Series '88) is one of the few old school PPVs I can't say I've ever seen. For some reason, I could never find those two in any of the video stores in the Greater Portland area. Only match I've seen is the main event which is good if you like Bam Bam Bigelow and Hulk Hogan bodyslamming fat people Another mildly interesting fact about the show; first PPV that ends with a heel going over in the main event. -
Well the card doesn't look that much better. Though I bet Harley-Tito is a rocking match.

Yeah, I guess She's Gotta Have It and parts of Do The Right Thing could be considered somewhat arty.
-
Let's not kid ourselves. This movie won't be anything near resembling "arty". Really guys, how many "black" art movies can you name? After Killer of Sheep, I'm drawing a blank. I mean I'm sure there are some but I'm an uneducated cracker!

Looks like a clunker except for maybe Hart Foundation Vs The New U.S. Express and The Bulldogs Vs The Iron Sheik and Nikolai Volkoff.

I'll stand by my Boston is the Goldberg of the music world analogy.

Honestly, I think '96 through '00 was kind of retribution for me sticking through with the product in '95. The last half of '97 and the first half of '98 in WWF were about as good as '95 was bad.

Yeah I just remembered Christmas Eve after I made that post. Though I have my friend has a yearly tradition of going to the movies on Christmas Eve. I went to the movies on Christmas Eve afternoon once to see the odd Johnny Knoxville misfire The Ringer and ten minutes before the end, they had to evacuate the theaters because there was a gas leak. We got a refund for that plus like twenty dollars of gift certificates...on the downside I never did see the ending for The Ringer!

I'm imagining Halloween night and The Super Bowl are two nights of the year where almost no one goes to the movie.

Yeah, I think it's supposed to be a dark comedy. Smart idea since I don't think I'd really want to see them attempt a serious biopic of Bush at this point. Especially Oliver Stone.
-
Yeah but you didn't host Pants Off Dance Off for a few seasons! Though I guess winning TSM Best Poster balances things out.

A little bit of Keenan goes a long way with me. He's pretty good in straight roles and I like his Barkley impression alright but other than that...yech!
-
Yeah, he does a surprising amount of director for hire stuff. TV pilots, commercials, and shit. Though I guess he needs to fund stuff like Bamboozled and She Hate Me. I just read the authorized biography on him a couple months back. Good stuff.

Well I'll slightly disagree with Barron, Inside Man was a box office hit in spite of Spike Lee's presence not because of it. They didn't really play up his name at all in the ads let alone promote it as the latest Spike Lee Joint. I agree though that the fact that Miracle at St. Anna wasn't very well reviewed and was incredibly long sure didn't help its chances. I don't want to be misconstrued as a Spike Lee hater btw. I don't think you'll find very many bigger fans of the guy on this board than me but I've met many people who haven't seen any of his movies solely because of the boneheaded statements he seems to make before the release of every one of his movies.
-
I'm not. I'm surprised they were estimating it'd be Top 5. Spike Lee, like Woody Allen seems to scream "box office poison". The director's off-screen behavior I think is at fault.

All-Time Wrestling Roster Draft

You can have my spot but that's probably not early enough I'm guessing. -
That One Warrior Nation guy appeared at an indy show in Maine about a year back. Unfortunately, the promotion decided to advertise him as "The Warrior" so needless to say, the 75 people that showed up for that show weren't too happy.

Armchair Bookers: What if Ricky Steamboat...
King Kamala replied to Zack Malibu's topic in General Wrestling
Yeah, I think if Steamboat did show up in ECW, he'd be way above mid-card status. Heyman would have probably paired Steamboat with Shane Douglas playing up their past tag team and Steamboat's history with Flair. I think Steamboat might have stuck around for a bit in WCW in the mid-card/upper mid-card scene before leaving. I think he'd probably either head to Japan or retire. Even before the back injury, I thought Steamboat was nearing the end of his career. -
Let's Talk About...The Decline of The WWF Tag Team Division
King Kamala posted a topic in General Wrestling
It seems like we were steering a bit away from the subject at hand in the Survivor Series '92 thread in the 24/7 subfolder so I thought I'd use our semi-off topic banter as the basis for this week's "Let's Talk About..." thread. The late '80s and early '90s produced some of the greatest tag teams the WWF has ever seen but by the middle of the '90s, the luster of the tag team division was gone not to recover until the beginning of the next decade. Was it the result of one departure or team breakup or just the culmination of numerous events? If I had to point to a specific event, I think it would be when The Steiner Brothers left in mid '94. The Quebecers seemed to follow suit not long after. While The Headshrinkers were pretty decent champs, they seemed to feud mostly with makeshift teams. -
All-Time Wrestling Roster Draft
King Kamala replied to PILLS! PILLS! PILLS!'s topic in Draft Faggotry
I was going to pick Mr. T in one of the late rounds for a quick comedy match against The Disco Inferno. (Un?)fortunately Mellow instilled the no drafting celebrities rule and my dream match was dashed. -
I was going try to refute the "Josh Lucas is a terrible actor" statement but pointing out his role in Boogie Nights as the guy who dupes Dirk and Reed into robbing the drug dealer but then I remembered that guy was played by Thomas Jane. Josh Lucas had a similar part in Wonderland, the real life story that the robbery in Boogie Nights was based on. I always confuse those two for some reason. I've got to remember. Thomas Jane played himself on Arrested Development and was The Punisher while Josh Lucas is a cleaned up, poor man's Matthew McConaughey.
