The Smart Marks Greatest Song of the 60s Tournament
King Kamala replied to Youth N Asia's topic in Music
I agree with Mellow, picking for this round was a hell of a lot easier than the first. There were only one or two difficult matchups for me. -
More Future Endeavours - Dykstra, Lena, Elijah
King Kamala replied to dubq's topic in The WWE Folder
Venis may very well retire with the 'E. I don't see him getting released anytime in the near future. He's a good hand and seems to get a good reaction whenever he appears on TV. Then again, I said the same thing about Scotty 2 Hotty two years ago and look what happened to him. Both releases are a bit surprising but I wouldn't be surprised to see either of them back in the 'E eventually. Both have a lot of potential and have shown it when given the chance to. Burke should go to TNA, I bet they'd at least give him a good spot in the upper mid-card. I agree with HTQ, he should probably go to HTQ for some more seasoning. -
Ooh let me play. Love me some Pixar 1. Wall-E 2. Finding Nemo 3. Toy Story 2 4. Ratatouille 5. Toy Story 6. The Incredibles 7. Monsters Inc 8. A Bug's Life 9. Cars I absolutely love The Top 5. And I at least kind of like 6 through 9.

Fun fact: Last major studio movie to be released on VHS? A History of Violence
-
I know this is a week old but I haven't seen it anywhere else here (and I'm not going to wade through a bunch CTDWAT pages) The Last Standalone VCR rolls off the assembly line 'Tis is a sad day. I believe the VCR played as pivotal of a role in the end of The Cold War as Regan and Gorbachev. Once The Russians saw our sweet way of life through bootleg VHS copies of Porky's, Rambo: First Blood Part II and Teen Wolf, they couldn't put up with communism for much longer.

Gotta love that mugshot.

Well yeah, I knew Frankie had died sometime ago. I just assumed he had gotten a new bird. Come on- you've got to find some humor in the dude having to look on Craigslist to borrow a bird! IT'S FUNNY DAMMIT!

The Smart Marks Greatest Song of the 60s Tournament

I'm sort of in between on Elvis. Fascinating person but indifferent to a lot of his stuff. Weirdly enough, my favorite stuff of his is from the era after the '68 comeback special but before he became a total fat, drug addled bozo (Roughly '68 to '73ish). That last album he recorded in Memphis in '69 is pretty good. IIRC, he wanted to record an album at Stax Studios with Booker T and The M.G.'s backing him up around the same time period but The Colonel nixed it. Up there on the list of greatest albums that never happened. -
Noah Fentz was Deon?

Group A "Build me up Buttercup" by The Foundations "Ring Of Fire" by Johnny Cash (The Sonics are a really fun band but I don't know if I'd put any of their songs that I'd put in a Personal Top 100 Songs of the '60s list) "8 Miles High" by the Byrds "I Can't Explain" by The Who ("Respect" has been forever soiled to me by this girl in my 7th grade class warbling it every day for like three months. Early Who is pretty awesome) "Hang On Sloopy" by The McCoys "Itchycoo Park" byThe Small Faces "Sunshine Of Your Love" by Cream "She's Not There" by The Zombies "The House Of The Rising Sun" by the Animals "Remember (Walkin' In The Sand)" by The Shangri-Las "Bonnie and Clyde" by Serge Gainsbourg & Brigitte Bardot (Answer to why there's so many Elvis songs is because Bitchtits Brody nominated a bunch of 'em. I'm not an Elvis hater like most of the board apparently he is but "Are You Lonesome Tonight" is pretty dreadful) "She Loves You" by The Beatles "I Heard it Through the Grapevine" by Marvin Gaye "Incense and Peppermints" by Strawberry Alarm Clock "Good Vibrations" by Beach Boys "Folsom Prison Blues" by Johnny Cash GROUP B "Surf City" by Jan and Dean "Dance to the Music" by Sly & the Family Stone "Unchain My Heart" by Ray Charles "Hey Jude" by The Beatles "It Ain't Me Babe" by Bob Dylan "You Really Got Me" by The Kinks "Dazed and Confused" by Led Zeppelin "Fortunate Son" by Creedence Clearwater Revival "I Fought The Law" by The Bobby Fuller Four "A Day in the Life" by The Beatles "Stand By Me" by Ben E. King "Visions of Johanna" by Bob Dylan "Daydream Believer" by The Monkees "Jumpin Jack Flash" by The Rolling Stones "Get Together" by The Youngbloods "A Change Is Gonna Come" by Sam Cooke GROUP C "Space Oddity" by David Bowie "Oh, Pretty Woman" by Roy Orbison "Can't Help Falling In Love" by Elvis Presley "Only The Lonely" by Roy Orbison "Then He Kissed Me" by The Crystals "Street Fighting Man" by The Rolling Stones "Hurdy Gurdy Man" by Donovan "Runaway" by Del Shannon "Don't Worry Baby" by The Beach Boys "All Along the Watchtower" by Bob Dylan "The Weight" by The Band "Israelites" by Desmond Dekker "Time of The Season" by The Zombies "Heroin" by The Velvete Underground "God Only Knows" by The Beach Boys "Reach Out, I'll Be There" by The Four Tops GROUP D "Walk Away Renee" by The Left Banke "In The Year 2525" by Zager and Evans (Lousy matchup- this one wins by a hair 'cause it creeped the fuck out of me back when I was an oldies listening seven year old) "I Want You Back" by the Jackson 5 "(I Know) I'm Losing You" by The Temptations (Toughest matchup of the round for me) "In The Midnight Hour" by Wilson Pickett ('nother insanely tough one) "I Was Made To Love Her" by Stevie Wonder "Like a Rolling Stone" by Bob Dylan "(Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay" by Otis Redding "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" by The Band "Suite/Judy Blue Eyes" by Crosby, Stills, and Nash "Papa's Got a Brand New Bag" by James Brown "Ain't No Mountain High Enough by Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell "Norwegian Wood" by The Beatles "Scarborough Fair" by Simon & Garfunkel "Be My Baby" by The Ronettes "Come See About Me" by The Supremes -
Most likely. Earl worked for JCP in the mid-'80s before jumping ship for The Main Event.

Wait- Noah Fentz was a gimmick? This is what I get for not boarding hard enough for the past month or so.

Amusing tidbit- I mentioned Koko B. Ware's going to be appearing at an indy show about an hour away from me this weekend. Well, apparently he is sans bird and is looking for one to borrow on craigslist... Oh how the semi-mighty have fallen

All-Time Wrestling Roster Draft
King Kamala replied to PILLS! PILLS! PILLS!'s topic in Draft Faggotry
Plain and simple, the supercard at a busy time in my life and by the time I've got a lot of time free to put the final touches together, I doubt many will care. I think a smaller draft and starting it earlier in the year so it could end during the summer would be nice. -
Last one I swear! Stevie Wonder- "I Was Made To Love Her"
-
You know I like bob_barron, always will. But the only time I'm ever mildly offended by the use of the N word on this board is when it comes from him. Just one of those things that make you go hmmm.

The First Edition- "Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In)"
-
Yeah, I think it should be narrowed down to a one a piece with play-in rounds determining which song gets in for the heavyweights (Beatles, Stones, Dylan, Beach Boys, etc.)

I was always fond of Wile E. Coyote/ Road Runner cartoons. My dad loves Sylvester and Tweety, especially when you had the big dog thrown in, so I kind of had to love those two or else be very annoyed. I think I liked Daffy more than Bugs but I always kind of thought both were mildly overexposed (and thus overrated) for some reason. Foghorn Leghorn cracked me up. Even though he only appeared in one short- I really loved Michigan J. Frog. I never really liked Speedy Gonzalez, he felt like a second rate, mildly offensive Road Runner ripoff. I wasn't much of a Pepe LePew fan either. I was confused to why The Tasmanian Devil shorts weren't anything like Taz-Mania (again I'm a child of the early '90s). My reaction to everybody else probably ranged from indifference to thinking they were pretty good. And boy- Warner Brothers have really tried to muck up their legacy in the past ten years or so. Looney Tunes Babies? What the fuck is that shit?
-
Last one I swear David Bowie- "Space Oddity"
-
Was Gorilla a conservative? Wouldn't surprise me...most people in the wrestling business seem to be (except Mick Foley, Raven, Jim Cornette, and a few others). And there's nothing particularly amusing about hanging up on a computer. I do it all the time.

Growing up in the early to mid '90s during Disney's renaissance, it'd be hard for me to not be a Disney fan. And I have to admit as the sentimental dope that I am, I go for that Disney magic. However, since we're comparing shorts and "classic era" Disney and Warner Brothers, you have to go with Warner Brothers. Some of my fondest childhood memories revolve around me watching Looney Tunes and The Three Stooges with my dad. I never was a huge fan of any of Disney's "classic" characters except maybe Goofy (which I attribute more to Goof Troop and the ensuing film spinoffs) while I love virtually every one of Warner Brothers. Embarrassingly enough, the release of Space Jam was one of the iconic moments of my childhood. I saw that 4-5 times in theaters.
