I swear I'll actually update this during winter break. I have some cool ideas for things to post on here. No joke!
-
I think he actually came in around late-October/early-November, but still, it is a stretch. I was just checking this on Graham's website the other day. He debuted on Jakked the night before Survivor Series. So even though he did technically debut, I'm sure 99% of the viewers didn't know that*. *I was in the 1%...for some reason, I was a loyal Jakked viewer. God bless being a mark who will watch (or at least tape, in this case) any wrestling that's on television.

A thread for me - ME! - to ask Milky a bunch of questions
King Kamala replied to Dark Age's topic in No Holds Barred
I might have asked you this in a previous thread but what's your favorite one hit wonder? Also do you have an opinion on Randy Newman? I highly advise you check out his early albums if you haven't. Seems like he'd be right up your alley. -
They Live to be remade You know this is one of the few movies I've been asking to get remade. IMHO, it's perfect remake material. The original had a great concept but it could have been executed better and probably should have had slightly better actors.

Willing to bet that nobody had former WWE Developmental talent Steve Bradley.

WWE Developmental Talent and ECWA Super 8 winner Steve Bradley found dead at 32 Damn. I was just thinking earlier today about how we hadn't had any young, recently active wrestlers die for a while (well...by pro wrestling standards) and then I find this out... I remember them hyping this guy up a bit in PWI and WOW in '99ish as one of the WWF's hottest prospects. I remember a lot of people saying he'd be the WWF's answer to RVD. His career kind of fizzled after a while though, especially after ECW went belly up and the WWF actually signed RVD. Dude was stuck in development for a long time, he signed in '98 and stayed till '02 without ever being called up. I saw him wrestle once at a house show shortly before he was released and wondered why he never got called up to the show. He was a hell of a lot better than some of the stiffs WWE brought up over the years.

Yeah, I'm trying hard to think of a lazier turn than that one and I'm coming up blank. He was still kind of overafter he turned back face (He got the third biggest pop of the night behind Edge and Rey Mysterio Jr at a SD! house show I went to in the summer of '02) but it was more of a "hey, this guy is kind of funny" pops than the kind of a pop a huge babyface would get.

they would never of worked as a heel/face

There was also this weird Koko B. Ware Vs Tito Santana match on one of the Coliseum tapes where Koko heeled it up. -

Me and my brother once pondered what a Tito Santana heel turn would be like and all that we could come up with him growing a goatee and still saying "Arriba" at the end of his interviews but in an ominous hushed tone. I don't know why but the thought of that cracked us up. -
What did/do your parents think of wrestling?
King Kamala replied to King Kamala's topic in General Wrestling
The only time, someone's flat out told me I couldn't watch wrestling was a friend's parent back when I was six or seven. I was over her house one afternoon and realized Superstars was on and quickly dropped whatever I was doing and turned on the TV. Her mom walked in while we were watching a Yokozuna squash and said something about it being too violent, turned it off, and made us go back outside. Though as I mentioned earlie, for about a week at the height of the Attitude era in early '99, my mom said me and my younger brother couldn't watch WWF for a while thanks to the general crassness of it all but she had no problems with us watching WCW. Thankfully, she forgot about this a couple weeks later and things went to normal. In retrospect, the WCW shows of that time period weren't all that much worse than the WWF ones (yeah I said it). -
Seconded, I really have no use for any posters with Canadian in their title other than Guitarist and Chris. And I know it's not a WWE folder complaint but while we're on the topic of posters with Canadian in their title... if you're judging solely by his posts in the Movies/DVDs/TV folders, you'd think CanadianDestroyer213 is a troll but since he posts in other folders, I've come to realize he's just a bit enthusiastic for a lot of second rate horror movies.

Hell of a point there, Cheech. Rikishi as a heel wasn't a terrible in theory because really where could he go from there? He had just about hit his ceiling as a babyface at that point. They just turned him heel in perhaps the worst way they could have.

King Kamala replied to Dark Age's topic in No Holds Barred
The Manson question has gotten me curious, Milkhawk...name your five favorite historical figures and why they're your favorite. -
I remember reading an article in National Enquirer or some supermarket rag in the checkout line where an alleged former gay lover of Scottie Pippen gave information about their torrid relationship. Apparently, he had video proof including one entitled "My White Slave". Lemme tell you, I wasn't unable to watch old Bulls games on ESPN Classic in the same light after reading that.

As I pointed out in the "What Did Your Parents Think About Wrestling" thread, he was one of the few wrestlers my dad liked. He actually met him once working out at the local gym with Rey Mysterio Jr on the day of a house show back in '03ish. My dad asked him to autograph something for us and Rikishi told him he would after he was done with his workout but alas Dad forgot to ask him again and my dreams of having autographs from all of the members of Too Cool (Scotty 2 Hotty is from the area and seemingly did an autograph signing around here once every three months from '98 on and I got Brian Christopher's at an indy show in '02) were dashed! Dashed! All kidding aside, I think if Rikishi could have toned down the comedy schtickwithout totally eliminating it, he could have been a good semi-main eventer, occasional main eventer.Just look at his IC title run and feud against Val Venis as a sign of his potential. People just loved the guy in Spring and Summer of '00. . I don't think anybody would argue that his heel turn killed his career. But his face turn after that was just as bad and cemented his reputation as strictly a comedy wrester. He had injury problems too IIRC and that certainly didn't help at all either.

On my third listen right now, I think I actually am with Czech on this one. "RoboCop" is the highlight for me though I'm still not sure how his failed relationship is analogous to that movie.

Now why would I hijack somebody's account solely to pronounce my undying devotion to Leena? Just doesn't make any damn sense.

Not a question but I'd like to read your thoughts on Charles Manson. I think I remember you saying something on enjoying his music. -
The Smart Marks Greatest Song of the 60s Tournament
King Kamala replied to Youth N Asia's topic in Music
You know what the problem with this tournament is? It was voted by the general population of TSM. You know as much as I like to crow about the lack of posters actively participating in the music folder, it's the results of a tournament like this that makes me realize why it's probably better off that it's kind of inclusive for the most part. But I insure you the Greatest Songs of the '90s I plan on running will far surpass this one! -
I suggest he does kids movie scores ala Randy Newman (I think you suggested this earlier, Czech). Either that or do a nostalgia reunion tour with Ben Folds Five. I think he's got to strike while the iron is hot for '90s nostalgia. I'm sure he still does a damn good live show though. I'd put a Ben Folds show I went to on the night of the '06 NCAA Men's Basketball Finals in Orono, Maine in the upper-echelon of great concerts I've been to.

Ranking Ben Folds/Ben Folds Five 1. Ben Folds Five 2. Whatever and Ever Amen 3. Rockin' The Suburbs 4. The Unauthorized Biography of Reinhold Messner (Really the Top 4 are interchangable. For a while I thought this was more of an interesting misfire but the more I listen to it over the years, the more I like it) 5. Supersunnyspeedgraphic, The LP 6. Songs For Silverman 7. Way To Normal If we're ranking live albums and outtakes albums, I'd put Ben Folds Live at #3, above Reinhold Messner and RTS but below the first two albums.. I'd put Naked Baby Photos above the last two solo albums but below Supersunnyspeedgraphic. I'm not sure where I'd put Songs for Goldfish or Fear of Pop as I haven't listened to either more than a few times.

What did/do your parents think of wrestling?
King Kamala replied to King Kamala's topic in General Wrestling
Both of my parents dislike it but I wouldn't say they hate it. They've never stopped me from watching and bought me wrestling crap for birthdays and Christmas. Dad took me to shows, even though as we grew older, he became more vocal about not liking having to take me and my brother to shows. Though that may have just been him thinking we were "too old" to be still into wrestling. I remember when he took us to indy shows at the local armory, he would just sit in the car and listen to Celtics and Red Sox games on the radio for most of the show, checking in about once every half hour to see we hadn't been kidnapped. But yeah I think my dad realizes that he likes too much other goofy shit to really give me too much guff about still liking wrestling. Mom has never said much about it but she was always vocal about how she wouldn't take us to shows if Dad couldn't attend. As for other relatives, my uncle was a casual fan for a while around the InVasion. I remember we talked about it briefly one family gathering. His favorite was Christian for some reason. I remember another uncle sat down and watched a couple matches when me and my brother were watching WCW Worldwide one afternoon at my grandmother's house and he seemed mildly impressed. My grandmother didn't seem to like it all that much and would occasionally complain when me and my brother would watch Superstars or Worldwide at her house but again she never stopped us from watching it. Nothing else from other relatives other than my grandfather once mentioning how one of his siblings was a big fan of Haystack Calhoun back in the day. -
The Great TSM Wrestling survey and thinking about how my interest in wrestling started brought this up. Figured it would be a fun topic. Despite the fact that my dad was the one who directly introduced me to wrestling and the fact that he attended WWWF shows regularly in the mid to late '60s when he was a young teenager, I never remember him liking it all of that much. And as we grew up, his disdain grew even further. This peaked when he was forced to accompany us to a WWE house show in July '02 where he complained the entire night. From then on, me and my brother just got dropped off at shows until we could drive ourselves. There were some odd exceptions that he enjoyed, he liked the Bra & Panties and other gratuitous T&A matches (not Test and Albert) and for some reason, he got a huge kick out of the comedy acts. He still brings up Cloudy, the Bodydonnas ugly transvestite manager every once in a while. He also really liked Rikishi and Too Cool and would sit and watch their matches. Those type of matches are the ones I think would drive the non-viewer away but they were the only ones Dad liked. Anyways, despite not liking wrestling at all, he took us to house shows and ordered PPVs. I don't think if it were for him, I'd be a fan. To this day, I wonder if he mildly regrets asking me if I wanted to rent a wrestling video. Oh and my Mom really didn't seem to like it at all and she was disgusted Inside Edition segment chronicling the seamier aspects of Attitude Era WWF which ended with Vince McMahon "attacking" the reporter who was grilling him (Does anyone else remember this?) but she never stopped us from watching it except I think we had to watch Nitro instead of RAW for a weeks after that.
